I had a good time in the apartment.. great location to upenn and to city center...
silvana was welcoming and was comprehensive enough to let me leave in the afternoon of my last day:)
the apartment could be cleaner:(
Silvana was very helpful with information regarding the apartment and even delivered additional towels when I first arrived. I didn't have any need to contact her for additional items.
The apartment itself was what i would call 'shabby chic' - but was just fine. (in comparison to some of the other reviews left) The bed is very comfortable and the bedroom is spacious.
While I was here it was quite warm, but there was an AC unit in the living and bedrooms so it stayed fairly cool.
Silvana was able to meet me at the scheduled time and show me into her lovely apartment. When I arrived, she was busy making the apartment looked spotless and making sure that I had everything I needed. The space was large, warm, and inviting, and, as advertised, was located in a quiet neighborhood in Philadephia just a stone's throw from downtown. Everything in the apartment worked perfectly, and I am really appreciative of Silvana to have put in the effort to open such a nice apartment for guests.
Host was good at making sure we found the apartment etc, however, when we did, it was not very clean at all.
The listing was very descriptive and accurate. The room was very spacious and welcoming to tourists. Silvana did not bother us at all during our stay. I highly recommend this Airbnb!!!
Tl;Dr, this is a great place for people who want to double dip by staying in a quiet neighborhood with easy access to entertainment and a trivial bus-ride to central Philadelphia (or a gorgeous walk with amazing architecture). I stayed here for 19 days and I miss it terribly.
First off, the listing doesn't make this clear but I'll just go ahead and lay it out for you: this place is right across the street from the house where Haley Joel Osment's character lived in The Sixth Sense. You can see it from the window of the spacious master bedroom every day you wake up and remind yourself that you are, in fact, alive and not caught in some spectral limbo with a child actor. This is a good thing.
Also a good thing: the bed. Oh man, the bed saved my life. It's tremendous with a very nice foam cover (and I say this as a Tempur-Pedic owner) and all the included linens for any season. Not that you'd need to customize, as it looks like Silvana changes up the interior pretty often.
The bathroom is small, with a window facing a wall so you can set up a nice crossbreeze through the whole apartment. Couple that with the ridiculous amounts of natural light (every morning is the intro to The Lion King) and you won't find yourself needing the central air and radiators, though they're certainly there if you're staying during harsh weather.
The kitchen is pretty well-stocked with three different ways to make coffee and pretty much every utensil or cookware you'll need. The only things missing were a measuring cup and a dishwasher, but you won't need either of those. Why would you cook anything when you're in Philadelphia? Don't kid yourself.
Seriously though, with this location you'd be robbing yourself by buying groceries; though if you are, there's a pretty good place up on South Street. But you're also hemmed in by two awesome taverns with great food in the surrounding blocks: The Side Car and Grace Tavern.
Most importantly, you're a 2-minute walk from the 7 and 12 bus lines (plus a few others, I'd wager) which are great lines to take advantage of. The 7 takes you to the Penn and puts you in prime walking territory for all the various museums. Then there's the 12, which takes you around Rittenhouse square to just in front of the Town Hall where both metro lines meet (and where all the best restaurants are).
Downsides? Well, the main stairway area is a little beat up, but you won't spend much time there. And it's an old building, so be ready for that.
To put a bookend on all this: do not take this place lightly. Silvana is an incredibly flexible host who worked with me to make sure I had everything I needed, and was responsive to any questions or issues that arose. The few problems I had were resolved immediately. Uh oh word limit.
I had problems getting into the flat, but admittedly it wasn't Silvana's but a 3rd party's fault and I didn't have to wait longer than 15mins to get in.
The flat is as described, however it didn't feel clean. Dust in the corners, crumbling walls, very tired looking furniture. I didn't feel comfortable staying there but we were in town most of the day anyway. One of the beds (a mattress) deflated overnight but we found a pump to rectify this.
The area is okay.
