Interaction with Guests
Hearing about the interests and life experiences of our guests is the best part of hosting, but we do respect their preferences. We are anxious to share our insights to the Charleston area and to assist however we can.
Riverland Terrace is an old established neighborhood known for its tree-lined streets and diverse population--houses big and small, people young and old walking dogs, riding bikes, watching the sun set over the river...
Within a 15 minute walk, there are numerous restaurants, a movie theater, a nail salon, a playground, a church, and other small shops. We have bikes at your disposal also.
Downtown Charleston is10-15 minutes away by car. There is bus service in the neighborhood, but takes more than an hour longer.
Other Things to Note
Our house sits back and is not visible from the street. Look for the house number on the right-hand mailbox with arrow pointing to our driveway on the left. There is plenty parking inside.
We love a lively houseful, but we do turn in fairly early, so no wild parties after 10:00pm. You, of course, do not have to go to bed when we do, so come and go as you please. No smoking inside at any time.
We feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to stay with Joyce in her beautiful home, both Joyce & her husband Fred made us feel so welcome, literally within 30 minutes we felt very much at home visiting family. Our stay in Charleston was one of the highlights of our trip, mostly due to the hospitality shown by Joyce.
Wonderful stay at Joyce and Fred's home. Gorgeous views of the river with beautiful sunsets. Joyce is the sweetest quintessential southern hostess. We loved getting to know Joyce and enjoyed lovely conversations over tea in her parlor. On my first night my guest hadn't arrived due to a flight delay, Joyce and her daughter Jen graciously invited me to dinner to at Bowens's Island restaurant... four words. Rustic, authentic, local and the best sunset views! Loved it! Additionally we had a very comfortable stay at Joyce's which included breakfast and is only 10 min from downtown Charleston... perfect! Many thanks Joyce.
Joyce and Fred are wonderful hosts. Real 'southern' welcome in a lovely family home with fabulous views over the water. We had great chats over breakfast. Flexible with breakfast times, helped us with restaurant possibilities and things to do in charleston.... Thanks for a great stay.
two good trips we did were a visit to Middleton Place Plantation and a walking tour in Charleston
Joyce and Fred are a lovely couple. They provide clean, comfortable accommodations. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again next time I am in Charleston. The riverfront view is beautiful. Take a moment to speak with Fred about tales from the open sea.
Joyce was a great host! Very welcoming with some good suggestions for local sightseeing. The rooms were clean and quaint, just as the pictured and described. The location was right on the water, which made for a beautiful little retreat after a day in downtown Charleston. Beautiful neighborhood to go running in as well. Would definitely stay again.
The reservation was canceled 32 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Joyce and Fred were most gracious hosts and the listing was right on point. We enjoyed the house the landscaping was wonderful and convenient and we would definitely recommend this again

About the Host, Joyce
Despite our gray hair, or lack of, my husband and I are fun-loving, active in the community, and enjoying life. We love sailing and any kind of boating and are fortunate to have our boats right at our dock.
My passions are my family, especially the grandchildren, my church, gardening, flower arranging, and chocolate! We have traveled a good bit and particularly enjoyed Australia, New Zealand, St. Petersburg, Norway, and Japan and have welcomed guests from all of those places and more.. We do all we can to make sure our guests feel at home without hovering.
I am retired after teaching from the elementary to the university levels. My last assignment was 10 years of teaching French at the high school and middle school levels.
