Our comfortable home on the river is in an established neighborhood. The second floor offers two bedrooms with queen beds and an adjoining bath, making it ideal for four family members or close friends. One bedroom has an additional sofa bed.

The Space

The 2 bedrooms are located on the second floor on the east side of the house. Between the rooms is a bathroom with tub/shower. The rooms have hardwood floors and lots of natural light.

Guest Access

Guests have access to the 2 second floor bedrooms, bath with tub/shower, living room, dining room, kitchen, washer, dryer, screened porch, patio. Don't be put off by the fact that this is our residence. We are non-obtrusive, but there when you need info or a little TLC.

Interaction with Guests

Hearing about the interests and life experiences of our guests is the best part of hosting, but we do respect their preferences. We are anxious to share our insights to the Charleston area and to assist however we can.

The Neighborhood

Riverland Terrace is an old established neighborhood known for its tree-lined streets and diverse population--houses big and small, people young and old walking dogs, riding bikes, watching the sun set over the river...

Getting around

Within a 15 minute walk, there are numerous restaurants, a movie theater, antique shop, a nail salon, a playground, and a church. We have bikes at your disposal also.

Other Things to Note

Our house sits back and is not visible from the street. Look for the house number on the right-hand mailbox with arrow pointing to our driveway on the left. There is plenty parking inside.

  • Joyce was great about keeping in touch and very accommodating for some rather non-standard aspects of our itinerary. Her home is in a beautiful location, close enough to easily get to downtown Charleston and Folly Beach, but far enough away to be quiet and restful.

  • This was such a lovely place in the world! Joyce and Fred Wichmann are both very delightful southern hosts who greeted us into their historic southern home with open arms (literally) and a warm fire on an unusually cold wintry day in Charleston. The 2 rooms we rented on the second floor were very nice and comfortable, 1 having a lovely window seat with view of the James River which is literally their backyard :) The old live oaks with spanish moss blowing in the breeze add to the ambience of the place along with the amazing sunsets on the river. We are photographers and greatly enjoyed the beauty of this place. And, to top off an already wonderful stay for 3 days, Joyce cooked us a fabulous breakfast every morning. When asked what we'd like, one person laughingly said "chocolate chip pancakes", one said "blueberry pancakes", one said "eggs" -- and yes, the next morning she had prepared all of these and more. Joyce's grits were so good that one of our party from Maryland (who said she didn't enjoy grits) had 2 helpings. I really loved meeting these two precious, very gracious people and will definitely stay here again if given the opportunity. If I could give 6 stars, I would do so :)

About
Despite our gray hair, or lack of, my husband and I are fun-loving, active in the community, and enjoying life. We love sailing and any kind of boating and are fortunate to have our boats right at our dock. My passions are my family, especially the grandchildren, my church, gardening, flower arranging, and chocolate! We have traveled a good bit and particularly enjoyed Australia, New Zealand, St. Petersburg, Norway, and Japan and have welcomed guests from all of those places and more.. We do all we can to make sure our guests feel at home without hovering. I am retired after teaching from the elementary to the university levels. My last assignment was 10 years of teaching French at the high school and middle school levels.
