Frenchmen House "Rose Room"

House - Private room · Frenchmen St, New Orleans, LA 70116, United States

Victorian-style 100+ year old house on Frenchmen Street -- home of the best collection of jazz clubs in New Orleans -- and still only blocks from the French Quarter.

The Space

Welcome to the Rose Room listing.

Frenchmen House is my home. I share it with Molly (king of the feline world) and my airbnb guests.

Victorian-style 100+ year old house on Frenchmen Street -- home of the best collection of jazz clubs in New Orleans -- and still only blocks from the French Quarter.

The house retains the architectural details that make New Orleans homes interesting and beautiful -- 13 ft. ceilings, dormer windows, original wood floors, and double parlor with functioning pocket doors. Very few renovations have altered this original home, and its charm represents the homes of its era.

Great backyard for entertaining -- very private courtyard setting. Smoking is allowed in the backyard.

PARKING: Easy on street parking, no meters, no time restrictions and always spaces available on my block.

I now have three rooms listed, all with king-size beds -- one for the Red Room, one for the Rose Room, and now one for the Green Room -- all three are on my profile page.

The house is a side-hall shotgun, so unlike a traditional shotgun, one does not have to walk thru each room to get to the next.

The Red Room is separated from the Rose Room by large pocket doors that may be opened when both rooms are rented together. Both rooms rented together create a very comfortable 2-room suite (traditional New Orleans double parlor).

The Rose Room is separated from the Green Room by a standard solid door, which also may be opened if both rooms are rented together. All adjoining-room-doors latch on both sides of each door for privacy. All entry doors to the rooms also latch from the inside for privacy.

To rent two or more rooms together, you simply book each room separately. Be sure to check the calendar for each room for its availability before booking the first room.

Each room is designed to accommodate two guests. If you book all three rooms, you may have additional guests at $10 per night per guest that exceeds six total guests.

Please know that it is never an issue leaving late and using the house on your departure day (leaving bags, hanging out, etc.) -- All I need is to start preparing the room for the next guest. You will never need to be out of the room before 11am. You can also arrive at the house early, even if your room isn't yet ready to check in.

The calendar for this listing reflects the availability of only the Rose Room, so please also consult the Red Room and/or Green Room listing if you are interested in booking two or more rooms (or just send me a message letting me know what you are looking for).

The regular nightly rate does not apply during certain events, such as Mardi Gras and JazzFest. See calendar for more details.

Guest Access

Guests have full use of the kitchen and all other common areas - living room, backyard, and bathroom. There is only one bath that is shared with me and all guests.

Interaction with Guests

I always try to meet you when you first arrive at the house. After that, you will have a code to the front door and can come and go as you please. If I can't meet you for some reason, I can forward your code to you before you arrive, and you can let yourself in and make yourself at home.

During your stay, I try to be available if you need me and invisible if you don't need me.

The Neighborhood

I love that my neighborhood is close to the things I love best about New Orleans and just far enough away that it is quieter (a little), and parking isn't a problem. I love that people walk or ride their bikes to get around - there are always people out and about.

Getting around

The streetcar can be picked up right at the end of Frenchmen at the river. It runs past the Quarter and to the convention center. You can also transfer to the St Charles streetcar to go up "the avenue," or the Canal streetcar to City Park. There is also a bus stop right on the corner.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • Thanks Joanne for the very comfy and relaxed stay in your lovely Nawlins home.
Frenchmen Street is awesome. Great food and excellent music venues abound just a few minutes walk away that we never needed our car.
Hope to stay there again sometime.

  • Wow! This space is awesome! Beautifully maintained historical space with very high ceilings, inviting, relaxing, and quiet. We spent one night with our dog. When we drove up to the neighborhood, it looked worn and we questioned the safety of the area. We found it to be safe, quiet and the people in the area friendly. Our hostess lives in the house and was there to greet us, answer questions, conversate or leave us with our privacy. We could come and go as we pleased. We have never shared a bath through airbnb before and it worked well for us. To experience NOLAs music, people watching, historical architecture, and cuisine, just walk out the door, make a left and walk a few blocks. Frenchmans St. is one of the oldest preserved streets in the country and the sidewalks reflect that so watch your step and enjoy!

  • Joanne was so great to accommodate us last minute! The house (bathroom and bedroom included) were so clean and well-stocked for guests. As with almost all houses in New Orleans, the sound barriers between rooms are nil, however, the bed was so, so very comfortable and the room itself was very inviting!

  • The Frenchmen House is located in a great location! Quiet street but right next to all the hubbub! We were pleased with the parking situation and how easy we found it to walk to the bars on Frenchmen and the French Quarter.

The Rose Room has the most amazing bed to come back to! Truly a delight!

Thanks, Joanne, for an enjoyable trip to New Orleans!

  • Oh my God! Most comfortable bed/pillow/blankets I have ever sank into! Sleep will be had by all whoever gets this bedroom! This was my first experience using and staying in someone's home like this, but Joanne made the experience warm and inviting. She showed us around, let us do our thing, and supplied us with towels, a fan, and an air mattress since we had an extra person come in last minute. Very hospitable and sweet! Thank you!

  • Frenchman House was perfect. Joanna was extremely sweet, accomodating and informative. The room was clean and comfortable and the location was great, just a short walk to the heart of Frenchman street music and food.
We especially enjoyed the shared living room and back patio where we were able to relax and meet the other guests. Everyone felt welcomed and relaxed, just an overall great atmosphere. We had a blast and will return.

  • I never actually saw Joanne or any other guests, but the stay was very nice. The room was lovely and despite having to share a bathroom with everyone, we never ran into anyone. The downside is that between rooms, no noise goes unheard. If you really want peace and quiet with no noises, maybe look elsewhere. But for my boyfriend and I, this wasn't that big of a deal.

  • Good place!

  • Everything was great. Had a slight issue getting in contact with the host and was outside waiting for 45 minutes, but otherwise great. Love the decor. The place is huge and very quiet.

  • The Room in the Frenchmen House was exactly what it said it was, and completely suited our my simple needs.
I met Joanne when I arrived there. She was a good host.
