Interaction with Guests
I rent out two individual suites. The couples suite has a solid heavy redwood platform king bed with a springless tempurpedic foam mattress. If you pay for the extra guests I can add two twin beds perfect for a couple or a couple with two children etc,. I m not available for watching your children. If you decide to bring your children I just wish that you watch the children since there is some safety issues with the property such as the River in the winter has rapids, concrete steps, gates to side creeks and bridges etc. My last guest stated to feel free to discipline my child. I feel it is not my responsibility to do so. They referred me to Auntie Annie to pass on their responsibility to watch their children. I love children but do not wish to watch them.
The Hawaiian Suite With a private bath I rent out separately has two queen beds, a double bed and a twin bed and room for another twin if you need one. If you rent out both suites and need a third room I do have two doubles that are sofa sleepers in the great room next to the fire place. I do hand mop all the wooden floors and I may miss a pet hair or two and if this bugs you please find another place. I am fairly clean and I try to keep the place without pet hair but pet hair does fly. I ask you not to bring your pet since other guests may be allergic to them. I don't allow my own dogs in any of the newly carpeted suites. I have two vacuums. One for the suites and one for the rest of the house to minimize the dog dander in the suites. I also have another suite I rarely rent out with four more beds upstairs in an open suite with great views of the Carmel River. Please ask I can I can arrange for this suite to be rented out as well.
The neighborhood has three baseball fields with Garland park of over a 1,000 acres of perfect for hiking and having picnics. There are several wineries and restaurants which are in walking distance. This area is like Napa wine country with several wine tasting rooms and great restaurants. Great safe neighborhood where I have lived for 24 years.
Best to have a car or bring a bike so you can check out the coast which is 11 miles away where the Big Sur journey begins. You also may just take a walk into Carmel Valley Village and explore all the wine tasting rooms. There is a wine trolley and a tractor driven wagon to drop you home after the tastings.
Other Things to Note
There is so much to do!. The hiking is right out the back of the property onto Garland Regional Park , local wine tasting and restaurants are in walking distance. Along the coast is great beaches, whale watching, Pebble Beach Golf, 17 mile Drive, Carmel Shops and the Big Sur drive. I have a great ideas on all the best restaurants in town and the favorite hikes and favorite waterfalls to explore.etc.

Recently refinished hardwood floors so bring your house slippers which are not flip flops that you travel outside with. Socks or bare feet are great! No pets please. My service dogs are herding dogs that like to chase little dogs or cats . Good idea not to sneak them in.
No loud parties please . You may smoke outside. Thank you.
Anne is a seasoned local to the Carmel Valley area and was not only the most accommodating host but also an invaluable resource; knowledgeable about the best local eats, activities and hidden hikes. Anne went above and beyond to ensure that the premises and rooms were in immaculate condition and even went out of her way to make sure we had what we needed. I would highly recommend her beautiful property as an ideal getaway location to experience all that Monterey County has to offer. It is only a couple minutes drive from the local restaurants, close to downtown carmel by the sea, big sur and her backyard seating and picnic tables by the river cannot be matched.
Anne was extremely welcoming. She made me feel right at home and very comfortable during my visit. She is full of recommendations for visitors like myself who haven't planned out their trip completely. She knows all the hidden hiking places and can give you recommendations that you won't be able to find online.
I was traveling alone. On my first night she gave me a couple of maps for the Carmel, Big Sur and Monterey area. She walked me through them in detail. Then on my first day, she took me to a road trip with her 3 lovely dogs. They are so sweet. I will miss them a lot actually :)
The neighbourhood felt very quiet and safe. The house is right next to the river. At night, I had the opportunity to watch the sky full of starts and listen to the river. She has chairs right next to the river so you can sit there, your feet in the water, and just relax.
Anne's home is tastefully furnished. My bed was super comfortable. Private bathroom was clean and well stocked with linens and even some shampoo and soap.
For my trip back home in LA she drove some detailed maps. She gave tips for nice places to stop by on the way and turned my trip into a wonderful experience.
I'd love to come back for a longer stay. Cannot thank you enough Anne!
Anne has such a lovely place, it was such a serene and beautiful area and her backyard with the river behind it was amazing. She was such a wonderful host and was so accommodating. I was a little under the weather when we came to Carmel, but I think the change in environment really helped me out. Everything was nice and clean and I had a wonderful time in her kitchen making dinner and breakfast, the view from the kitchen was just beautiful. We felt right at home and would definitely come back to stay again.
We had a great time staying with Anne! She showed us some amazing hikes to go on, and was very welcoming and easy going. Cannot wait to go back!
Anne was a great host! My partner and I enjoyed a relaxing Valentine's Day/President's Day weekend in her lovely home near the Carmel Valley River. Stunning views in her back yard and the space was exquisite. Anne offered great recommendations for activities and restaurants in the area. We hope to make this a recurring trip!
Anne is a very gracious and accommodating host with a lovely home in close proximity to Carmel By The Sea. She knows a lot about the area and had some great suggestions on things to do and see but above all provided a very comfy clean and peaceful place to stay and made us feel very welcome she even provided some home made salsa and fresh fruit from the garden.
Upon arrival Anne was great in getting us situated and was more than happy to leave us to enjoy ourselves.

I enjoy gardening , hiking and horse back riding the unexplored areas of the Monterey Peninsula ! I know all the secret spots worthy of exploration. Plus I also enjoy baking delicious treats for the guests here at "The Carmel River Retreat". Best to all!
