Interaction with Guests
I rent out two individual suites. The couples suite has a solid heavy redwood platform king bed with a springless tempurpedic foam mattress. If you pay for the extra guests I can add two twin beds perfect for a couple or a couple with two children etc,. I m not available for watching your children. If you decide to bring your children I just wish that you watch the children since there is some safety issues with the property such as the River in the winter has rapids, concrete steps, gates to side creeks and bridges etc. My last guest stated to feel free to discipline my child. I feel it is not my responsibility to do so. They referred me to Auntie Annie to pass on their responsibility to watch their children. I love children but do not wish to watch them.
The Hawaiian Suite With a private bath I rent out separately has two queen beds, a double bed and a twin bed and room for another twin if you need one. If you rent out both suites and need a third room I do have two doubles that are sofa sleepers in the great room next to the fire place. I do hand mop all the wooden floors and I may miss a pet hair or two and if this bugs you please find another place. I am fairly clean and I try to keep the place without pet hair but pet hair does fly. I ask you not to bring your pet since other guests may be allergic to them. I don't allow my own dogs in any of the newly carpeted suites. I have two vacuums. One for the suites and one for the rest of the house to minimize the dog dander in the suites. I also have another suite I rarely rent out with four more beds upstairs in an open suite with great views of the Carmel River. Please ask I can I can arrange for this suite to be rented out as well.
The neighborhood has three baseball fields with Garland park of over a 1,000 acres of perfect for hiking and having picnics. There are several wineries and restaurants which are in walking distance. This area is like Napa wine country with several wine tasting rooms and great restaurants. Great safe neighborhood where I have lived for 24 years.
Best to have a car or bring a bike so you can check out the coast which is 11 miles away where the Big Sur journey begins. You also may just take a walk into Carmel Valley Village and explore all the wine tasting rooms. There is a wine trolley and a tractor driven wagon to drop you home after the tastings.
Other Things to Note
There is so much to do!. The hiking is right out the back of the property onto Garland Regional Park , local wine tasting and restaurants are in walking distance. Along the coast is great beaches, whale watching, Pebble Beach Golf, 17 mile Drive, Carmel Shops and the Big Sur drive. I have a great ideas on all the best restaurants in town and the favorite hikes and favorite waterfalls to explore.etc.

Recently refinished hardwood floors so bring your house slippers which are not flip flops that you travel outside with. Socks or bare feet are great! No pets please. My service dogs are herding dogs that like to chase little dogs or cats . Good idea not to sneak them in.
No loud parties please . You may smoke outside. Thank you.
Anne was a great host she kept in touch right from the day we made our booking and provided us with guidance about the area on things to do. The property is an great locale and the room was splendid. Overall Anne made us feel very welcome would definitely repeat. Thanks Anne for the cigars.
We loved it at Anne's. We stayed there for 3 nights with 2young boys during our road trip and it was a haven. Besides being able to sleep like a baby there, Anne was definitely the highlight... Everything from home made muffins on arrival, walks with her dogs, invites to dinner, recommendations on what to see and do, and helping with the route to our next destination... It was all appreciated and made us feel right at home. I hope it won't be too long until we return xx
Anne has a most wonderful property. If you are a water sign you will appreciate the Carmel River flowing by. Across the river is a county park of thousands of acres you may explore or you may just sit alongside the river in camp chairs and listen to the water sounds. The house has a spacious kitchen/dining area and a generous common room with a flat screen TV. I stayed with my daughter in one bedroom with access to a nearby bath. Another couple stayed in the other bedroom with an ensuite bath. We loved it! The only qualification is that you must love animals. Anne rescues.
Wonderfully mellow household. The beauty of the river right out the door. Annie was so helpful with ideas for places to visit in the area as well as with restaurant suggestions. This place was amazingly ode to the Garland Ranch, our wedding destination. Thanks for everything
We've gone on tons of Airbnb vacations but this one was the best ever! The house is serene & the grounds are incredibly lovely & were just magical for our four-year old daughter who enjoyed exploring the paths through the well tended garden of flowers & fruit trees and wading in the gentle river at the end of the back yard while we enjoyed breakfast at the picnic table just a few feet away. She especially loved the animals on the property: friendly dogs (who cured her fear of dogs), chickens, a bunny (who she fed carrots from the vegetable garden) & the horse a short walk away. This is a great place for kids! Our host Anne was the absolute sweetest - she made us feel at home, introduced our daughter to the animals, & gave us tips on the best beaches and local sites. Her great suggestions on sites & restaurants totally transformed our plans & made our whole experience much better. She even baked a birthday cake for our daughter! The location of the house is perfectly central for day trips to Carmel By The Sea, Pacific Grove, Monterrey (& the aquarium) & Big Sur. This was a trip we will treasure forever.
My sister, nephew and I had a great two-day stay at the Carmel River Retreat. Anne is a great host - she is extremely knowledgeable about the local attractions, and very generous with her time and attention. The property is very nicely located, and perfect for those who desire natural surroundings and quietness. We enjoyed walking along the trail with Anne and her dogs. I will definitely return in the future to experience the wonderful Carmel Valley Village and Big Sur agagin!
