My husband and I chose Bruges for valentines weekend and this flat was the perfect base for our exploring! Close to the centre of town, with many romantic walks from the flat to the Markt. Philip is a great host, offering suggestions for places to eat/drink and being available if anything was needed. The flat itself is cosy and has all the basics needed. Shower is hot and powerful, mattress was very comfortable. Would highly recommend!
The location of the flat is fantastic, you can walk everywhere you need to go. Philip was a friendly host although he did not respond to a couple of the questions I asked regarding the cost of parking and why we could not turn the heating on. He was very flexible with check in/out times which helped us a lot.
The main downsides to the property was that it was not very clean. There was plaster bits and dust all over the bedroom floor, a brown stain on the bed sheet and cobwebs on every ceiling. The over all feel to the flat was that it was quite dirty. The bed sheets were very creased and had not been ironed which made it feel like very little effort had been put in to our stay. The pillows were old and lumpy and the mattress was quite saggy but I like a soft bed so it wasn't too bad. The towels were thread bare and stained and didn't smell very fresh. The other main complaint was that the central heating was not on through out the duration of our stay. There were portable heaters placed within the bedroom and living area. This meant that areas such as the toilet and bathroom were freezing cold and we had no way of heating them. The stairs are narrow and steep and the property is on 3 floors, this can be difficult when carrying luggage. There is only a hanging rail with three hangers to store your clothes. There was no liquid soap in the toilet and only three almost used rolls of toilet paper which ran out before we left. 1 new roll would have been sufficient.
Access was easy, Philip messaged us a keylock box code so we could let ourselves in when we arrived.
We only stayed one night so it was ok for us as it was location we had as a priority, which we got. I wouldn't stay again and would not be able to recommend the flat personally.
We had mixed feelings about Phillip's property. First, what we liked: a fantastic location just a few minutes walk from the main square, with a handy bagel joint across the street which is perfect for brunch. Also, with three floors and two bedrooms, it's very spacious, It was actually more space than we needed with just two of us traveling. The bed was warm and cozy too, no problems there. No kitchen but the basics were provided, including a coffee machine.
We did have a few issues, however. My first impression was that the flat was in need of a hearty dose of TLC. There were several lights that did not work, a leaky ceiling on the second floor, scuffs on the walls and an old television set with no cable. I got the feeling that it was a high traffic property, with lots of guests coming in and out. As a result - it seemed to be showing some wear and tear. What the flat offered in terms of raw space was offset by the lack of personal touches and attention to detail that we have seen in some other places we've stayed.
Finally - There was an issue with guests before us checking out late. We weren't able to check in until an hour later than we expected. Not a huge deal, but an inconvenience nonetheless.
In terms of space for value and location, you'd be hard pressed to find a better place than Phillip's. That being said, I don't think it's the ideal venue for a romantic weekend getaway.
My mother met Philip upon their arrival (since I came later) and dealt primarily with him. She said he was incredibly helpful and nice. The location was the best thing about the place! It couldn't have been more perfect. The only downside was the guests before us blew out the lights and a lot of the lights didn't work :/ Also, the heating situation was not ideal.
This was a great place to stay, right in the heart of Bruges with easy access to everything. Philip was a great host helping with whatever we needed I would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Bruges.
Though I have stayed at numerous private properties listed via other websites, this is my first Airbnb stay. I found the property to be as described by the owner and previous guests. It is quite near the centre of old town and the stairs are indeed quite steep, but there were no surprises. Philip was an excellent host who went out of his way to welcome us on Christmas Eve night. In addition he secured a Christmas Day lunch reservation at Cafedraal (fine dining); provided travel information about alternative trains out of Bruges going through Lille instead of Brussels. We really appreciated all of his assistance, concierge services wasn't suppose to be part of this Airbnb stay!
For us it was perfect - others might be put off by cleaning up after themselves, or the steep stairs from the 3rd floor bedroom to the 2nd floor toilet (though there is a sink and shower on 3rd floor) The magic of the property is its location and the owner. But in terms of what was portrayed and what was actual, it is accurate and thus in my book highest marks. (Not suitable for toddlers, really small children or elderly) Very much enjoyed spending the Christmas holiday period in Bruges. In fact we planned our week of travel (mostly in Switzerland) around the availability of this property and were very happy with the decision to make the trek to the Venice of the North - or, as we called it 'The Little Apple' (as thing are open all night like New York City - The Big Apple)
Conveniently located in the heart of Brugge. Philip was very welcoming and helpful. Small apartment but needless to say had plenty of space. No kitchen, but is so close to town it does not matter as there are plenty of cafes and restaurants. Definitely recommend if you are looking at a short stay in Brugge. Thanks Philip.
