I stayed two nights at Fabiana’s apartment. My first impression of the place was that it was comfortable, even if very small, although after some consideration and after experiencing being there, I can also add that it was not kept clean as I would have expected of someone charging $20 as a cleaning fee in Bolivia; there were dishes in the kitchen sink that stayed there until next early evening, the carpet in my bedroom was very much stained and the rug in the living room was dirty as well. The bathroom was also unkept. I would not mention this if the episode on the second evening had not happened, as it is an inexpensive stay and she seemed a busy person.
She announced next morning that there were a couple of friends coming in the evening. She came accompanied by two friends and since the apartment is very very small, I decided to retreat into my room. Sometime later, cigarete smoke starting coming into my room and more so when I opened the door to go to the bathroom, as her two guests were smoking. I then asked to talk to her in private. I told her I was feeling uncomfortable because cigarete smoke really bother me and asked if it would be okay for them to smoke outside. Fabiana then told me that she had planned this reunion with her co-workers for over a week, and she was unable to ask that of her friends; I then asked her if there was a way for her to open the windows and the front door for the smoke to go out. Her answer, was that she could not open the door because of her neighbors and her windows were jammed.
Needless to say, I felt very unwelcome. I stayed in my bedroom the rest of the evening and night, with it reeking of smoke, while loud conversation was going on outside my door. I wanted to prepare myself something to eat in the kitchen, but I felt very uneasy doing so. I took a sleeping pill instead, and next morning I left as early as I possibly could, albeit with a sore throat.
I wish I had never booked this stay.
