Neighborhood highlights

Nizamuddin East, South Delhi’s a quiet and upscale residential colony in New Delhi, India. It is located off of Mathura Road and
sits across from the protected Heritage site and one of Delhi's
most famous monuments, Humayun's Tomb as well as Nila Gumbad. Both monuments are lit at night and create a haunting
and romantic setting.
In the small market place within the colony you can find most anything you need. There is a beauty salon, chemists, small grocers, an internet and telephone facility, a dry cleaner, a tailor, a few dhabas (eateries), and a few small temples. All at a stone’s throw from this small boutique facility.
This colony is full of interesting residents from the famous BBC journalist Mark Tully and his wife, to the former Chief Minister of Delhi, Sheila Dikshit. The neighborhood is popular among expatriates, journalists, architects and intellectuals.

Meet your host

Started hosting in 2012
My work: Architect
Speaks English and Hindi
This project began for us with a spontaneous decision to move from Boston, USA to New Delhi, India in March of 2004. We left our respective jobs, rented our house and flew to New Delhi with a few suitcases to begin our new life in India, which coincidentally was just one block away from this boutique facility in Nizamuddin East. One of our goals was to have a home in New Delhi where Rajive grew up. For the first year in India, we looked all over Delhi for a place where we could feel at home, but nothing compared to Nizamuddin East. Then, an advertisement in the paper came in June of 2005 and this property was for sale. We rang the doorbell and asked the owners if we could buy the house and that was the beginning of this Boutique Luxury Hotel. After a long and tedious permitting process, the work finally began in October 2005 to renovate and transform the old house into what it is today. We lived in the house towards the end of construction with the dust, the heat, the noise and many workers on site. It was an exciting time to live there and see the house come up day by day with a lot of dedication and devotion. In December of 2006 the project was finally completed. There are many people to thank for their efforts and resolve in making it happen. Through each part of the construction phase came new workers and new families who lived on site. Some of their portraits are here below. Janis McClinch and Rajive Chaudhry Owners and Architects of this Boutique Luxury Hotel, New Delhi
