The Space

IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GOLDEN CIRCLE! (20 min away from several major attractions in South Iceland)

A fully-modernized charming family cottage, located 20 min. from Selfoss Village. It is 65 sqm (=700 sqft) with two bedrooms (double bed and one semi-double), and a studio couch in the living room for two persons, a total of six adults. It's open year-round for travelers. No smoking allowed, but pets are welcome. The cabin is fully equipped with all necessary kitchen utensils, dish washer, washing machine, hair dryer, WiFi, and a three-burner Weber gas grill on the deck. Wood for both the indoor and outdoor wood stoves is provided. The 80 sqm (=861 sqft) south deck has a hot tub and brand-new furniture. Parking for several cars.

The cabin is extraordinarily well decorated and homey, with an exceptional eye for detail. It's also ideally located on the banks of the river, in a beautiful scenic setting, in the middle of all the tourist attractions of South Iceland.

There's great view over Hvítá River from the cabin and short distance to all major nature pearls in South Iceland: Gullfoss and Geysir, Thingvellir, Kerið, Sólheimar, Laugarvatn Village, Skálholt, Arnarker, Landmannalaugar, Skógafoss, Háifoss, Thjórsárdalur, Jökulsárlón and Reykholt, Baula, Hraunfossar and Paradísarlaut in Borgarfjörður, and Keilir and Blóa Lónið on Reykjanes. The cabin is perfect for day trips to these locations, as well as to Reykjavík, since it is so conveniently located only an hour's drive from the capital.

The new swimming pool at Borg is extremely good for a country-side pool. It has small warm pots for children, play area and swimming area, and geothermical hot water, of course, which is standard for Iceland.

There's only two minutes drive to one of the most popular golf clubs in Iceland, Kidjaberg Golf Course, and very short distance to the swimming pools in both Hraunborgir and Minniborg. There is a 15–20 min drive to Selfoss.

There's a Jetski rental at Lake Svínavatn and angling for example in Lakes Apavatn, Laugarvatn, Úlfljótsvatn, not to mention in Lake Thingvallavatn itself, as well as in Hvítá River which is located just in front of the cabin.

Hvítá is a salmon river and cabin owners in Kiðjaberg have two fishing canes/licenses in the river per day during the angling season. Angling fees were 3000 ISK for half a day in 2012, or approximately $ 24. This is a special deal for cabin owners in this particular local area, and their guests, not available to others. The nearest lake, lake Hestvatn, also offers trout angling, free of charge.

There is prolific birdlife in the area, making it perfect for birding and birdwatching. There are also several beautiful hiking trails to be found, with breath-taking view over mountains, glaciers and the ocean.

Several glaciers can be seen from the Kiðjaberg area, such as Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull, Hofsjökull and Langjökull. The driving distance to Eyjafjallajökull is less than an hour.

Minimum stay is three nights. Note that included in our prices is rent of bed linen, towels, etc. and final cleaning.

A part of the rental income is donated to Hordur Barddal's Memorial Fund for Disabled Golfers. Hordur founded the Icelandic Disabled Golf Association in 2001, in collaboration with the Icelandic Golf Association, and was the director of the board until his untimely death in 2009. He built the cabin, together with his late wife Soffia, in the summer 2004.

  • This cabin is perfectly located to really explore the Golden Circle or any parts to the south. After a cool, rainy day it was always warm and cozy to return to the cabin. The golf next door is great!

  • We had a fantastic stay in the cabin. The location is stunning and the house feels homely and is well-kitted out - not a standard sparsely-furnished apartment or holiday home bought to be rented out. This cabin has soul and feels loved! And we certainly loved it too! The view from the hot tub was idyllic and it was great to be far enough from other dwellings that we felt completely cut off from the outside world. A fabulous place to get away and very convenient for Reykjavik and lots of the sights. We're already planning our return trip!

  • Delightful cabin with everything you could possibly need in a glorious peaceful place. We spent 3 wonderful hours in the hot tub or by the outside fire listening to birds and enjoying the view on our night of arrival in Iceland, perfect.
All was perfectly communicated, well organized, great location!

We'll remove the pink rubber boots. Thanks, Angie! And we'll keep an eye out for your earring and get back to you if we find it.

  • My family and I chose the three sisters' cabin for a short trip to Iceland, and we did not regret our choice. The cabin is cosy and well-equipped and has a nice view over the Hvita river. We also found it to be ideally located for our day trips to some of the major tourist attractions, including Geysir and Thingvellir as well as to Reykjavik. The contact with the hosts was pleasant and easy, and when we discovered upon arrival that we needed an additional set of bed linen Bergthora brought it to us late at night.

  • We so enjoyed our time at the cabin. The setting was beautiful, quiet with wonderful river views. Great location made seeing the golden circle and parts east very easy. Best hot tub by far. Highly recommend this cabin to anyone.

  • We LOVED staying in this cabin!! We had a great time- the location is amazing- very secluded and with stunning views, the cabin itself is very cozy and welcoming and sitting out at night in the hot tub under the stars and Northern Lights was one of my best experiences ever! Iceland itself was incredible too, but definitely made even better by staying here. The cabin also offered great value for money, I cannot recommend staying here highly enough, we already want to go back!! Thank you so much to Johanna and her sisters for making our Iceland experience so fabulous

    Response from Johanna:

First I would like to say that my sisters and I have been renting out our
cabin for almost four years now and this is the first time we have had to
cancel a booking. Second, the cancellation was made on the same day that
the booking was made, within an hour after it came in (and not only six
days before arrival). The reason was double booking; it turned out that my
sisters had promised my oldest niece, who has a birthday that Saturday,
that she could go up there with two girlfriends to celebrate her 19th
birthday. This had not been communicated clearly to me. I tried to have my
niece switch to the next weekend after, but her girlfriends had both gotten
the weekend off at work, and her disappointment was so immense, that I
simply could not force her to change her plans. I immediately contacted
Carsten to let them know and they understood. Despite that, I feel really
bad about this situation, both about the (momentary) distress I caused my
niece, but also about disappointing Carsten and his girlfriend. My sisters
and I will take every measure to make sure that this does not repeat

  • It was a great experience staying at the cabin! My girlfriend and I felt very at home and comfortable. A few things to be aware of is that we only found a heat source using the fireplace, which worked very well to hear up the cabin. Another is that the wifi is not free. It exists, but it's pay as you go. Overall, we would definitely recommend staying at this cabin!

    Response from Johanna:

We are really glad that Diego and his girlfriend enjoyed the cabin. As a response to his comments we would like to say the following: The heating in the cabin is in the floors. One has to turn up the heat in order for it to go up, and it goes up slowly but then it also stays warmer for a longer time. We also provode the wood for the fireplace, which is good when it is colder outside but is of course nice any time of the year. With regard to the internet, we just installed it last month, we invested in the router, but we decided to go for a pay-as-you-go solution (also applying to ourselves) since this is a G4 connection, instead of not offering any internet at all. We were hoping that this would perceived of as better service.

  • Your words are too kind Johanna, many thanks. I have wanted to visit Iceland for a number of years and my wife took some persuading as she is more of a sun worshipper! However, the beautiful countryside, the scenery, the people and in particular, this log cabin has converted her and we want to return as soon as possible! Thank you so much for your help and assistance Johanna in getting us safely to the cabin. Also a big thank you to your sisters who were on hand to answers any other questions we had. The problems with the Hot tube were quickly resolved and were more than compensated with a glorious fire to enjoy in the evenings. We are so delighted to have found this cabin in our kitchen in Ireland and will return!! A simply wonderful experience and I would recommend this cabin and area to all. Ideally positioned for the Pengviller, Gullfoss, and the Hot Springs. Until next time....Davy and Gwen.

    Response from Johanna:

Thank you, Davy! You are welcome back any time. In fact, we've realized that we must set up a "repeated customer" discount, as there are so many people who plan to return. :D
Merry Christmas to both of you,

  • We had a lovely weekend at the Log cabin - everything was set up perfectly and we had everything we needed when we arrived. The location and setting is just stunning. This was our second trip to Iceland, last time we stayed in Reyjavik, and we enjoyed being away from the city so much more! It's perfectly located for the Golden Circle, Selfoss is close to pick up supplies and when we were defeated by the weather and had to stay in and shelter from a huge storm we couldn't have had a nicer and cosier place - the log burner and a large glass of red got us through! Thanks to Johanna and her sisters for being excellent hosts - we would definitely recommend the place to anyone considering a trip to Iceland.

Our father, who was disabled, built this beautiful log cabin in the summer 2004. After his untimely death in 2009, my two sisters and I came into possession of the cabin. We decided to rent it out, partly because of the economic crisis, and partly because we would like to share this beautiful cabin with other people. I live abroad but my two younger sisters, Fanney and Sessa, live in Reykjavík, Iceland. We share the workload between us so that I do bookings, emails, and so on, while Sessa and Fanney do change-overs, final cleaning, etc. We have a very tight contact and all three of us are always available, either through email or phone, in case you need any assistance with your booking, your stay, the cabin, or what ever other problem you may be experiencing.
