About this listing
This beautiful backyard bungalow in an amazing historic district is perfect for short or extended stays in Arkansas's capital city!
Welcome to the Shake Shack (affectionately named for one of our favorite NYC haunts), your very own studio apartment, complete with full bath, washer/dryer, ample closet space, and a newly renovated kitchen. This white-plank floored, one-room beauty is the guest house to our historic Hillcrest home. With a vaulted ceiling, cozy front porch, WiFi, and its own HVAC system, the Shake Shack is the perfect space for a couple, small family, traveling medical professional, or graduate student, who prefers a personal space over a standard hotel room.
Expect a warm welcome from your hosts and friendly pups. Because the Shake Shack is in our backyard, we look forward to meeting guests and sharing the charms of our favorite Little Rock neighborhood, Hillcrest.
The tree-shaded backyard is a great place to kick back and have a cocktail upon arrival. Wide streets, 100 year old oaks and maples, friendly shopkeepers along Kavanaugh Boulevard, expansive Allsopp Park, and a robust restaurant scene are just a few reasons you'll want to call Hillcrest home. The Shake Shack's central location makes it a snap to get downtown (5 minutes); local hospitals such as Children's (6 minutes), UAMS (3 minutes), and St. Vincent (5 minutes); and great shopping in the Heights (7 minutes).
Sites such as the Clinton Presidential Center, Museum of Discovery, Arkansas Arts Center, the River Market District, Little Rock Central High, Heifer International Village, the Big Dam Bridge, Two Rivers Park, and Pinnacle State Park are all within minutes of the Shake Shack.
There is an antique four-poster bed (oversized full) that can accommodate two people. We also make a queen-sized air mattress and cozy sheets available to guests who request it. The kitchen was installed in May 2014 and offers a new stove and oven, extra deep sink, stainless steel utility table, mini-fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and toaster oven...all available for your use.
We look forward to welcoming you and sharing the charms of Little Rock during your visit!
Price includes 11% tourism and sales tax. No need to add it on!
Full kitchen (NEW in 2014!)
Interaction with Guests
As hosts, we will be there to greet you at the Shake Shack, give you an orientation for the property and the neighborhood. We live on the property, so we will be around to answer any questions during your stay.
Hillcrest is the best crest!
Uber and taxi service is easy to come by in Hillcrest.
Rock Region Metro ((URL HIDDEN) has brand new buses with several bus lines that run from our neighborhood to downtown and many other parts of town.
If your destination is in Hillcrest, UAMS, or War Memorial Park, walking is a great options. Wide streets and sidewalks welcome walkers: human and dog alike!
Other Things to Note
The Shake Shack is perched on a hill behind our home. Parking is on-street, so the walk to the Shack is a bit of a schlep. 10 long stairs from the street bring you just in front of the house. Through the fence and up 5 stone steps put you in the Shake Shack's front yard. There are 4 more little stairs that deliver you to the front door of your weekend retreat.
If you have groceries or luggage to unload, coming in through the gate from the ally is always a good option and is a much shorter trek.
Visitors with ambulatory issues have noted that the walk is challenging. I mention this so you can consider it when making your decision whether to stay with us. Also, please look at the photos which depict the terrain.
As with anything Shake Shack, Hillcrest, and Little Rock related, I'm happy to answer any questions you may have!
Treat it like a hike in the woods. Pack in, pack out!

Feel free to contact me me for Little Rock and Hillcrest recommendations and directions. I'm happy to help!
We have two dogs who live in our house and hang out in the backyard at times. Please keep the gate closed as you come and go so as not to let the pups roam free! They won't come in to visit you unless invited. :)
Thank you for visiting!!
