We were picked up at the airport just as we arrived. Very nice. The room was nice and clean, except for the strange smell coming from the bathroom. We had to keep the door closed. It was a good stay all in all. Very close to the airport.
Melrost B&B was excellent. We spent our last night in Costa Rica at Melrost and they were very friendly and considerate. We had two seperate flights to make and they had no issue providing shuttle service for us at two different times. They also served a lovely breakfast at a time of our choosing. Would definitely stay at Melrost again.
We stayed here the first night when we arrived in the country, and 2 1/2 weeks later we stayed here again the last night before our departure. It's only a mile from the Juan Santamaria airport. First, the good news: Katia and her sister Carol are lovely people, very warm and gracious and helpful. The breakfast was terrific. There is a helpful staff person on duty all night - the first night when we arrived, we reached the BnB after 11 PM and they were very accommodating. For our departure, we had to leave at 4:00 AM and their driver gave us a ride to the airport at that hour. Now the not-so-good news: (1.) The rooms were utterly plain and basic, rather shabby and not entirely clean. (We had two different quarters for our two different bookings.) Though the floors and linens were clean, the bathrooms were smelly and the entire room smelled of mold and vaguely of sewage. The bathmats were extremely dirty and looked as though they had never been washed. Even though we had booked the rooms for 3 people we were provided with only 2 towels each time. In comparison to Costa Rica rentals, we stayed at 4 others during our trip and they were all approsimately the same price or somewhat higher priced, yet all of them were far more beautiful, newer and with new furnishings and meticulously clean. In comparison to comparably-priced American hotel rooms, an example is a historic old hotel we often visit in Tucson AZ, which is a lower price than Melrost, though without the included breakfast. Yet the Tucson hotel is extremely clean, nicely decorated, with freshly washed bathmats and plenty of towels, and even air conditioning. (2.) My husband and I find it hard to sleep in bright light. Melrost kept very bright lights on outside our windows all night long, and when we asked if they could be turned off, we were told they'd turn them off after late-arriving guests arrived. The late guests arrived (very noisily talking, laughing, slamming, etc. outside our open window) but the lights stayed on, and I find it hard to sleep in bright light. It was uncomfortably hot, there was no air conditioning so we had to keep the windows open, and if we closed the curtains completely we closed off all air circulation from the window, so we had to leave the curtains partly open letting in the intense light. Thus, we were much too uncomfortable to sleep well. (3.) On our first stay, what little sleep we managed to get was interrupted by loud noises at dawn, 5:45 AM. First, a crew below our window began trimming hedges with electric hedge trimmers. and then at 6:15 a construction crew arrived and began work on remodeling the rooms next to ours, with electric drills, electric saws, a loud radio that they sang along with. This of course ended our hopes of getting any sleep.
This small hotel/B&B was great. Staff super friendly and helpful. They even have a free shuttle to take you to local restaurants. Room was very large. Wasn't any air-conditioing in our room but wasn't required with ceiling fans.
Good friendly help at the villa. Well organised in travelling to and from the airport.
The place was clean and very nice to stay at when arriving into San Jose, they served a great breakfast and we're very nice, we will be back!
My stay at Melrost was wonderful. They were very accommodating. I ended up leaving my bag on the bus on the way there and they helped me track it down the next day. Because I was leaving Costa Rica, they offered to meet the bus on its way back from Coco to get my bag and were going to mail it for me. A friend was able to help me out so it all worked out. But the fact that they offered was really above and beyond.
I highly recommend their B&B and will stay here the next time I am in Costa Rica.
Très pratique, à 5 mn de l'aéroport
We highly recommend Melrost B&B if you are arriving or departing San Jose. The room was really comfortable, bathroom immaculately clean, breakfast on the balcony was lovely and the free transfer to the airport was greatly appreciated! Thanks Katia & the whole team - we'll be back for sure next time we visit Costa Rica!
