About this listing
A fun cabin on a horse sanctuary. My horses range in age from 4 to 32. Some have been rescued from abusive situations. Some have worked hard in therapy programs and are retired now. All are very loving. I am an artist and a compassionate horse lover.
Art Studio/Cabin on a horse sanctuary. A very cozy 500 Square foot space with full bathroom, kitchen, bedroom and living room/dining room. Equipped with washer/dryer, shower and tub, and wi-fi. This cabin will accommodate 4 people, depending on sleeping arrangements. Original artwork hangs throughout the cabin. It is situated on horse property where senior horses roam the pasture. Lots of old trees on the property with a great view of the San Juans and Cimarron mountains. Chimney Peak and Courthouse Square clearly visible. Quiet area within walking distance to town. Or you may have use of the bicycle.
Cabin is very near the main house and within a few hundred feet of the stables and pasture. You can drive right up to the front door. Picnic tables are available with the Cottonwood Creek running by. Original artwork and western memorabilia decorate the cabin. Sofa bed in living room pulls out to a full size bed.
They can see the horses, but only with me. No wandering about.
Interaction with Guests
If the guests want interaction, I am available. I love to interact with the guests. But sometimes, they want their privacy...and I respect that.
This is a very quiet piece of property where deer roam free and several feral cats. Sometimes I have my horses walking around so I appreciate your quietly coming up the driveway with your car. There is NO SMOKING on the property and generally NO DRINKING. A nice glass of wine is okay. No parties. Definitely NO PETS....
What an incredible experience we had surrounded by gorgeous scenery and Alice's precious horses! The cabin was so cozy, comfortable bed, loved the tub, and such a relaxing place filled with peace and tranquility! We were thrilled to help feed the horses & had such wonderful chats with Alice! An A+++ lifelong memory for us...!!!
First AirBNB stay & review! I felt like I rolled the dice with this place without knowing much about it, or having used ABNB before.
Well, I came out the winner on this one. What a great place, great experience. The cabin is awesome and I think with a little more exposure will quickly decline in availability. It's a quiet little place surrounded by horses, llamas, and other farm life existing right along side of the wild life that strolls through.
I arrived in need of a mental vacation and this place was great for that. No TV, and honestly it was one of the best parts. I sat down and read, I disconnected, it was great.
Last but not least, Alice. Even if it was a work day, this woman does more before I crawl out of bed than I would do all day. She's a hard worker with a passion for the animals she provides sanctuary for. A delightful host who will chat with you, or give you your space if desired. The cabin is decorated with pieces of her heart, and pieces of her art. It's really a delightful little getaway that you can arrive to with only a change of clothes and have a comfortable getaway.
We arrived after 9:30, but Alice was waiting for us and had the cabin lights on. As others have noted, this is a delightful, snug cabin filled with art and personal touches. My wife and daughter had the chance to help feed her several horses and llamas, and we all enjoyed talking with her about the area and about her work with horses. Location was great for daytrips - our only regret was having to leave after just three days.
A really special place for those who prefer a quiet personal experience in this beautiful area, as opposed to being in a hotel or tourist spot. We could not have asked for anything more. The cabin is rustic and charming with all the comforts of home. Great shower, comfy bed, useable kitchen, and internet that worked fine for us. Artwork by Alice is the crowning glory. Alice is a dear woman who loves and cares for her family of rescue horses right up the hill. You can be a part of it if you wish, or keep to yourself. We very much enjoyed getting to know her and visiting with the animals. Ridgeway center is moments away and there are alot of good places to eat. It's closer to Telluride than Ouray, and close enough to Ouray to enjoy that also. This is one of the most beautiful areas of Colorado, and for me, this is the best place to enjoy it all!
We stayed for five nights in Alice's cabin, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was our "basecamp" and quiet retreat for our vacation. Alice is a great host and the cabin is modern, but rustic. We enjoyed meeting the horses and llamas as well! There is a sofa-sleeper for a couple and two twin beds, or you and push the two twin beds together, as we did.
The cabin was a perfect getaway place for my friends and I to experience a slice of authentic Ridgway. We loved how close it is to town but it's so quiet and peaceful. Alice is a sweet heart and invited us to see the horses she loves so much. Loved it!
Alice is an excellent host. Her cabin is much better than it looks. Despite her having a nasty accident before we arrived, she made very effort to make sure we were comfortable. She was great to talk to and gave us hood suggestions.
About the Host, Alice
I am in my late 60s and am a horsewoman. I run a horse sanctuary....so I don't get to travel much myself. I am a quiet person and would like guests who are respectful of the equines on this property. I am also an artist and this property lends itself to a guest staying not only for a weekend, but also for a month to write, paint or play music. This sanctuary has alot of creative energy.
