A fun cabin on a horse sanctuary. My horses range in age from 4 to 32. Some have been rescued from abusive situations. Some have worked hard in therapy programs and are retired now. All are very loving. I am an artist and a compassionate horse lover.
Art Studio/Cabin on a horse sanctuary. A very cozy 500 Square foot space with full bathroom, kitchen, bedroom and living room/dining room. Equipped with washer/dryer, shower and tub, and wi-fi. This cabin will accommodate 4 people, depending on sleeping arrangements. Original artwork hangs throughout the cabin. It is situated on horse property where senior horses roam the pasture. Lots of old trees on the property with a great view of the San Juans and Cimarron mountains. Chimney Peak and Courthouse Square clearly visible. Quiet area within walking distance to town. Or you may have use of the bicycle.
Cabin is very near the main house and within a few hundred feet of the stables and pasture. You can drive right up to the front door. Picnic tables are available with the Cottonwood Creek running by. This cabin is perfect for a very creative person who would like to spend a month in the mountains to paint, write or compose music. Original artwork and western memorabilia decorate the cabin.
Two single beds in the bedroom can be pushed together for a cozy sleeping area for a couple. Sofa bed in living room pulls out to a full size bed.
Arrangements to learn about horses or ride is available for extra fees.
They can see the horses, but only with me. No wandering about.
Interaction with Guests
If the guests want interaction, I am available. I love to interact with the guests. But sometimes, they want their privacy...and I respect that.
This is a very quiet piece of property where deer roam free and several feral cats. Sometimes I have my horses walking around so I appreciate your quietly coming up the driveway with your car. There is NO SMOKING on the property and generally NO DRINKING. A nice glass of wine is okay. No parties. Definitely NO PETS....
We love Alice. When we arrived, the cabin was beautifully clean and welcoming, with little flowers and a note on each of our beds! Everything you need to either stay in all day or go out and play is here. The cabin is roomy, but cozy, kitchen is perfectly tiny and complete. Alice was under the weather but made us feel so at home and welcome, and we met the horses, each of whom has a totally unique personality and coloring. Alice is a wonder, caring for horses and involved in the community, stories to tell about her fascinating life, interest in everyone and their story. We would HIGHLY recommend anyone stay with her at ANY time of the year.
Alice is wonderful. This was my girlfriends and I second time in a month visiting Alice, the cabin and her lovely horses. I highly recommend staying at this cabin.
The location right outside of town cannot be beaten, and the views are simply breathtaking.
How rare it is to meet someone as passionate as Alice. Rarer still to have her invite you into her life and home. The cabin is rustic but great, the setting very real and the experience memorable. You won't regret it.
Booking last minute with Alice was very easy, and she was very responsive. We didn't interact much, which is fine, and she made herself available when we had a few questions about good restaurants in town. She's very active on her very cool ranch. The animals are lovely beings. The cabin itself is cute and charming, very cozy. It's a full unit with all amenities, but there is no real wall between the bedroom and the rest of the space (think studio). There is a small nice kitchen in the place, just be warned that the cooking pans are dollar-store grade and so we burned everything we cooked which was a real bummer on my birthday breakfast. Also, there were 5 Glade air fresheners open when we got there, which seems excessive for such a small place cabin. Finally, it was very snowy when we got there (very beautiful), so we had to park in a different area which became a mud pit when the weather warmed up. I would just suggest laying new gravel in that parking area, getting real cooking pans, and throwing out the Glade air fresheners. Otherwise, Alice's cabin is great and well worth the stay. We would stay there again!
Alice's Horse Sanctuary was amazing! We had a very short time and it snowed, but the cabin was so warm and cozy and the surroundings were beautiful! We ran out of time to really meet the horses, but I am now anxious to go back again and again. Everything was perfect and Alice was a perfect host too! Don't miss the opportunity to stay here, you'll be happy you did.
Alice is a wonderful host. She is extremely responsive with communications and offers information regarding local attractions and to do's. She, her cabin and her property are full of warm welcoming energy that I'm looking forward to being around again soon!
Alice and her home was amazing. My girlfriend and I spent Valentine's Day weekend at her lovely Cabin. The cabin, property, horses, llamas, deer and cats were all inviting!
Alice was ready to greet us and was incredibly accommodating the entire time on the property. She gave us a great tour and even let us brush, feed and play around with the horses(mainly Gus, who is a puppy in a horse body).
The property and surrounding area is absolutely stunning! Go to Orvis Hot Springs one night and sit in the springs under the stars, if you get a chance.
We will be staying again with Alice as soon as we can come back!
I am in my late 60s and am a horsewoman. I run a horse sanctuary....so I don't get to travel much myself. I am a quiet person and would like guests who are respectful of the equines on this property. I am also an artist and this property lends itself to a guest staying not only for a weekend, but also for a month to write, paint or play music. This sanctuary has alot of creative energy.
