This one-room studio is like a cozy cabin. You'd never guess that you were just a couple of blocks away from the vibrant Hawthorne District.
Chosen as one of Portland's 10 best Airbnb rentals by Portland Monthly Magazine, it's hard to find a better deal. Tucked between Hawthorne and Division, you’ll have easy access to award-winning restaurants, movie theaters, coffee shops, parks, and so much more. The one-room light-filled studio is perfect for a single or couple. It has a comfortable full-sized bed with nice linens, a small table and chairs, coat and luggage racks (there is no closet), and a place to sit and read while you enjoy complimentary tea and coffee. Whatever season you are visiting Portland in, you will find the studio to be quite comfortable. It stays nice and cool in the warmer months with a ceiling fan, and the convection heater keeps it warm in the winter. There is an iLive clock radio suitable for playing music off of iPods and iPhones. Beautiful photography by a local artist graces the walls and changes with the seasons.
There is a large, beautiful bathroom for your use on the main floor of the house, which is located about twenty steps away via flagstone pavers. The extra wide and deep bathtub can fit two people and all natural soap, bubble bath, and epsom salts are provided. There is a shower nozzle, but please note that there is not a stand-up shower available. There is also a claw-foot bathtub in the garden with hot water for the more adventurous bathers. Plush towels and bathrobes are provided.
Several spas are in the neighborhood for guests who are looking for that extra level of relaxation. We also work with a licensed massage therapist who will come to the house if you wish to receive a massage without even needing to leave the property.
Our open and bright kitchen is available for use and a pleasure to cook in. We are vegan and kindly request that animal products aren't brought in.
Portland is full of beautiful parks and rivers, including Mt. Tabor and Laurelhurst, which are close by. A picnic basket is available for your use and the neighborhood's natural and specialty markets have just what you need for your outing.
Interaction with Guests
We share our home with three fun cats, but we keep the studio cat free. We are more than happy to provide recommendations of things to do and see to make your trip to Portland truly memorable. We respect your privacy and with our bedroom and bathroom on the upstairs level of the house, there is plenty of room for everyone. We are LGBTQ friendly. Come find out for yourself why we are in love with our home, neighborhood, and city!
We are less than 3 miles to downtown and about 10 miles to the airport. Public transportation within walking distance makes getting around the city without a car easy. You can often find a Zip Car or Car2Go close by. A couple of bike shops in the neighborhood rent bikes and cycling in our neighborhood is easy and popular. There is always ample, free street parking in front of our house.
Joelle and James Urban garden was terrific. Private, well appointed, a real nice oasis in the neighborhood. The house was beautiful, immaculate, and they had delicious baked goods in the morning.
We had a pretty busy schedule so we didn't get to talk with them much but our short chats were pleasant and it's clear they are really nice, down to earth folks.
We had a great time at the Urban Garden Studio. It's close to a couple bus stops, so it was pretty easy to get where we wanted to go. The layout allows you to choose private time or get to know James and Joelle. It was a very cute room and we felt really welcome and cozy. It made our Portland visit really enjoyable. Hope to come back soon! :)
Amazing place to stay! Joelle and James are excellent hosts and so accommodating. The Garden Studio is insanely cozy and adorable and really close to a bunch of great food and bars. Highly recommended!
James and Joelle were wonderful hosts, and helped make us feel very at home. Not to mention how helpful they were when my luggage was lost from the airport and they helped us out however they could. The studio was very cozy and had all we needed. Extremely happy with our decision to stay with James and Joelle at the garden studio.
We had a great experience at the Urban Garden Studio! James and Joelle were very welcoming, helpful, and kind. They did many small, special gestures such as leaving us yummy vegan baked goods and sweet notes. The studio and house were beautiful, clean, and cozy. The three cats were also so sweet and friendly! The studio is in a great neighborhood that felt safe and has everything one needs. We were also centrally located to many great neighborhoods; there wasn't a lack of things to do! The bathtub was heavenly, especially during our winter visit.
Amazing! Beautiful space, gracious hosts. Loved the treats, the sheets, the tub and the good vibe garden sanctuary. Many thanks!
We love our home, neighborhood, and city and enjoy sharing all three with travelers from near and far. James, originally from New York City, is a composer and music director and is well connected to the music and art community in Portland. Joelle, originally from Los Angeles, is a kindergarten teacher. We've lived on our wonderful street since 1999 and can't think of a better place in Portland to be. We are both long-time vegans and have enjoyed exploring the world through our taste buds. As hosts, we strive to give our guests the privacy they desire while still being available to offer insider tips on the best places to eat, play, and explore in and around Portland.
