The Space

Colinda Cabanas has just been voted the # 1 bargain hotel in Belize for 2013 by Trip Advisor !

We are located on a safe quiet Caribbean beachfront property on the island of Caye Caulker in Belize. Facing the reef, we are blessed with an almost constant cool North-Easterly breeze. Most nights star-gazing is amazing while listening to the surf breaking on the reef. Naturalists and children alike will enjoy the abundant species of migratory birds, reptiles and marine life.

This cabana (#5) has a nice sized covered porch with chairs, table and hammock. There is an excellent ocean view from the deck. This cabana is in the shade much of the day, keeping it cooler than others. There are several well-screened windows and wall-fans providing good ventilation. Inside there is a double and a single bed with fitted sheets and comfy pillows. A fridge and coffee pot will satisfy most travelers needs. The bathroom shower and wash basin have a good supply of hot reverse osmosis purified water. Free WiFi in room.

A 175' long dock with palapa and hammocks and safe swimming area completes the picture. Bring a bathing suit, a good book and a beach towel.

We now offer complimentary bicycles, snorkel gear and have 2 kayaks available on a first-come basis.

Regional Disclaimer: The island of Caye Caulker is in the coastal Caribbean / tropical region of Belize. While this provides incredible beauty and natural wonders from sky to sea, it also means that, heat, humidity, sudden tropical squalls and power outages are common occurrences.
Living on a beach surrounded by jungle also means an abundance of Geckos, Iguanas, ants, and land crabs.
Occasionally sand flies and mosquitoes can also be problematic.
That said, we do everything we can to ensure your stay is comfortable and pleasant.....

We are located about a 5 minute walk from the nearest store or restaurant. Or 2 minutes by bicycle.
Our exact location on Caye Caulker is as follows:
From the 2 water taxi piers located on the front of the island ; step off the end of the pier, take a left and walk 10 minutes South along the beach. We are beside the Anchorage Resort.
From the airport : Walk 400 feet to the beach. Turn left and walk North along the beach for 3 minutes.
From the back (water jets) pier walk 50 yards to middle street, turn right and walk 10 minutes along middle street.
Middle street ends at our property.
If you arrive tired or with a pile of luggage; taxis charge U.S. $2.50 per person and only take a few minutes to get to our place.

  • We arrived at the place from the beach and Linda immediately recognized us! She offered us advices and suggestions for things to do during our stay on the island. She borrowed us a beach towel when we went snorkeling (with the guide she warmly recommended to us).
The place is a little paradise: cute little intimate cabanas with private WC. Reading in the sea wind while hanging in the hammock at the tip of the wooden wharf is something I will always remember.

  • Colinda's is the Best Kept Secret on Caye Caulker!!!! Colin and Linda have done an amazing job with the property! The cabañas are clean, cozy, well-maintained and extremely affordable!!! They also have a private dock with lounge chairs and hammocks and there is access to bikes, kayaks and snorkel gear. Also Colin's hospitality was impeccable! He always made sure we had what we needed and felt more than comfortable. He was very accessible, warm and friendly :) I wouldn't choose any other place to stay on Caye Caulker. Colinda's is highly recommended!!!

  • We had a lovely time in Caye Caulker staying at Colinda's wonderful cabana. Located right by the beach, we were able to catch a perfect view of sunrises and sunsets. Linda was super friendly and helpful too!

  • Colinda and Colin were perfect hosts :) Their cabana was very comfortable and roomy and no bugs!! The hot shower was nice too!! They were very helpful in providing us with tour information and places to eat. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay there again!! Their location on the island was very quite also.

  • Colin and Linda were SO helpful to us. As we'd never been to Caye Caulker before, they recommended places to eat, tours to take, places to snorkle, most convenient laundry and groceries....seriously, way above and beyond! The cabana was great, we were a little worried about sleeping in the heat, but the breeze there was perfect and with a couple fans we stayed plenty cool. No bugs, no pests, clean, wonderful staff (owners, grounds keepers, and cleaners), comfy bed, cold fridge, I wouldn't have changed a thing.

  • we had a great stay at Colinda - the location is perfect, far enough away from town for quiet, relaxation and close enough to get anywhere you want to go very easily and quickly on foot or by bike - our cabana was lovely. breezy and comfortable, and the beds and pillows are super comfy too. Colin and Linda were wonderful hosts- they were very warm and helpful and always available - we highly recommend Colinda!

  • Linda and Colin are great friendly hosts! The cabana was charming with the right amount of amenities, secure (there is a safe in the room and security person at night), and short distance to downtown (enough for solitude without being far of the action).

We particularly liked the pier with chairs and hammocks (so resting at night), great plus that bikes, snorkel gear and kayaks were all included! Other places charge for this...

  • We had a lovely, relaxing stay at Colinda's. Linda was extremely helpful, offering us restaurant and activity suggestions; and she was always around if we needed her. Their dock is one of the best on Caye Caulker! Between 3 - 5:30pm is the best time to dip in the ocean to cool off and grab your hammock to swing away the heat. I would stay there again in a heart beat - and really appreciated the cleanliness of our cabana! Both myself and my grandma couldn't have been happier with our stay at Colinda's. Thank you!!

  • Staying at Colinda's felt like I was staying in Paradise. The hammock on the porch was a perfect way to wind down after a day in the sun and heat. Linda and Colin were super friendly and very informative. Will definitely be back and bringing friends or family next time!

  • I only wish we'd been able to stay longer. Everything (and everyone) was perfect. So helpful from the moment we arrived - above and beyond. We'd arrived late in the day (which happened to be on a bank holiday) with only Mexican Pesos and we were ever so hungry and weary. Colin very kindly arranged for a loan on a taxi ride from the ferry and then exchanged some money from his own pocket so we could eat.!!! As I said above and beyond. He made excellent suggestions about snorkeling and local foods.
The Cabaña is absolutely charming (go with the owner)- very tastefully done with attention to detail - very comfortable beds, fans and lots of windows for good air circulation, screens, fridge, coffee maker, cozy hammock in the breeze and a great view. Super pier with various seating arrangements and hammocks in which to watch the frigate birds float and the pelicans soar. It is at the end of town on the windward side so nice breezes and very quiet.
Everything was super clean - including the grounds. There was also this great "free" shelf with products folks did not want to carry back with them. For example a bottle of sunscreen and a bottle of rum with enough left for a good drink at sunset for each of us in it.
I also liked the clothesline. And then!!! there were the bikes too!
    Great stay.
Would like to return for a longer stay.

We (Colin and Linda) are from the Okanagan/Shuswap areas of British Columbia, Canada. We now call Lillooet B.C. and Caye Caulker, Belize our home. We were looking for a life-style change (needed paying jobs) and purchased this small beachfront resort in late January 2011. We spent the last year fixing it up and are now starting to enjoy Island living. We welcome your visit to our little spot in paradise. If you have any questions or concerns - please email us.
