A full apartment in a great location.

Just 3 blocks to the French Quarter, 1 block from Louis Armstrong Park and 2 blocks from Esplanade, you're smack dab in the middle of trendy Treme, while being an easy stroll or bike ride to the French Quarter, the Marigny or Frenchman St for a nightly musical smorgasbord.

Interaction with Guests
Guests are given directions/information on how to let themselves into the unit. We have normal work lives; however, live on property and are easily available to answer any questions, say hello or chat. Level of interaction once on property is totally up to each guest's preference.
Our home is in the historic Treme neighborhood. Treme is definitely a neighborhood in transition and is full of character. If you are expecting pristine looking homes and perfectly groomed lawns, Treme is not the neighborhood for you. Feel free to research more online about the neighborhood.

Whitney's apartment was ideal for our 5 night stay in New Orleans. It was in a quiet neighborhood within easy walking access to the French Quarter and all the live music on Frenchmen St. Everything we needed was in the apartment. The kitchen was well-equipped and the sofa was very comfortable for sitting.
We came for Mardi Gras. Seemingly one of the busiest times in NOLA. When we arrived we were shocked by how pretty the apartment was and how it seemed bigger than the photos. We liked the gate, which made it feel safe. The apartment was one if 3 or 4 in a row, much like a motel, but better quality. It was well appointed and ideal for a couple. It was about a 20 minute walk to Jackson Square or the French market and about 30 minutes to Canal street. La Treme (pronounced tremay) is the oldest African American residential area in the US. We loved walking around it and exploring. We would suggest St. Augustines church and the Backstreet cultural museum.
We never met Whitney and her response times were long. For example, we asked if we could check out later and she only got back to us the next morning, admittedly, it was mardi gras. Texting or email may be a better way to communicate with her. There wasn't enough toilet paper, so we bought 2 rolls. The stores nearby were limited. We walked 25 mins to a health coop, which was great for us. :) There was a low level background noise throughout the night (even when the heater was off), maybe from the freeway? We also occasionally heard fire engines or the neighbors (or people nearby)...
Overall we loved the apartment and would recommend it.
We didn't want to leave. This was the perfect location for Frenchman, Bourbon, and everywhere else in the city. Not having a car and walking everywhere was a breeze and felt safe.
There was a kitchen with everything we needed, we cooked ourselves breakfast a couple of times and felt at home.
Whitney's communication was timely and very helpful! Also, Tom made it hard to leave by making us want to move down there with his neighborly help and suggestions of what to explore.
We loved our experience at Shogas so much that if it were an apartment for rent, we'd have signed a lease already.
If you're going to New Orleans, do yourself a favor and book with Whitney and Tom. Loved every minute of it and can't wait to go back!

Shogas was exactly as promised: clean, safe, welcoming, convenient in location. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go, with access to the street cars as well as the French Quarter. Whitney helped us arrange a marvelous Swamp Boat Tour and would have helped in other ways had we but asked.
We also got some good tips about restaurants and where to stand for one of the pre-Mardi Gras parades. There ae also guides in the apartment,, which could be helpful (We came with a huge supply already).
It was also neat to be so close to Louis Armstrong Park, which we visited a couple times and traversed on our way to the street cars several times.
Safety was enhanced by a newly installed combination-activated entry system for the main door. Even walking back at night from the French Quarter, we never had any qualms about safety.
In retrospect, we probably should have made more use of the fully-equipped kitchen, but there were just too many eating places to choose from, and we didn't want to take time to get back to the apartment when we could be listening to jazz.
We were grateful there is no TV, as it might have been tempting to watch instead of do!
Though you are just a couple minutes off the I-10, the apartment and the neighborhood is very quiet and there is no disturbing noise.
The best thing we can say is: we will recommend Shogas and Whitney to our friends!
We never actually saw our host, but she was very communicative, responsive and helpful by text and email. The property was super clean and exactly as described. We especially appreciated the fully-equipped kitchen. The apartment shares walls with other apartments and is within a few feet of the host's residence, so generally speaking it's a quiet atmosphere, not party central, which we really liked. Regarding the neighborhood, we prefer being off the beaten path and loved the neighborhood feel of Treme. Still, it was a fairly short walk (or cab ride, which might be recommended late at night) to both Bourbon St and Frenchmen St, so the location was absolutely perfect. We highly recommend a visit to the Backstreet Cultural Museum, just a few blocks from the apartment.
Whitney has a way of making you feel at home from the second you walk through the door. She was always quick to to us when we had a need or a question. The apartment is private, clean, and within walking distance from the French Quarter. We highly recommend Shogas.
Whitney and Tom were very polite and welcoming. The apartment met all our expectations and more - very clean, warm, comfortable, well equipped, and close to all the action. Highly recommend this as a great base to experience indescribable New Orleans.

My name is Whitney and I am a New Orleans transplant. Originally from North Carolina- I have lived in New Orleans since July 2010. Although I miss North Carolina often, I have fallen in love with New Orleans- the food, the spirit of the people, the music, the culture, the history, the tradition and even my husband, Tom! New Orleans has treated me well and I hope to repay it the favor for many years to come.
I have been an airbnb host since July 2012. The property was first listed on airbnb by the previous owner "Belinda." We want to be able to provide all of our guests with a quiet, nice and convenient place to stay as they take in all that New Orleans has to offer.
We hope to meet with you soon and help to make your New Orleans experience memorable.
Whitney (& Tom) :)
