I have a cozy little room perfect for one guest who wants an affordable space in downtown Ottawa. Perfume/scent free. With adorable dog! Close to the canal it's perfect for a pedestrian! Street parking only. Elgin is GREAT locale for foodies!
I have a great little room for a single visitor. The bed is a cot with a surprisingly comfortable IKEA mattress cut to fit the frame! My apartment is right downtown Ottawa and is half a block from all the entertainment Elgin street offers! I'm walking distance to Parliament, the market, the canal and more! I am a people person who enjoys hosting guests and hearing tales of travel. I have a dog (and this is his apartment too) so you must like the canine persuasion...he likes everyone! He's a cockapoo, so "low" allergen and no shedding! This is not a "I hope you don't mind dogs, or can tolerate dogs" listing...this is a YOU MUST LOVE DOGS listing. I've had a recent experience where the guest was clearly uncomfortable with the presence of the dog and the dog let us both know he was having none of the shunning and expressed himself in a way I'd rather not encounter again! So, if you don't really like dogs, I'd rather you book with someone else. If you DO really like dogs and might like to pet my dog and give him the occasional treat, then this is the perfect spot to stay! It's great for someone on a budget who wants to leave Ottawa with a lasting positive impression of the hospitality available in this city! (Warning, I'm a Maritimer at heart)
I've been told the room is warm and cozy with a very nice energy! I keep the energy in my house on the positive side with regular cleansing! I'm not a flaky as that sounds!!
My fridge is attractively slimmer than most and usually well stocked, so its hard to say we can "share" it (as it's prime real estate)..but I will share any and all food I have with you!
The shower has great water pressure, the tub is too small for a bath if you're over the age of ten.
I think everyone will immediately like this place. It feels like a cottage in the middle of a city. Everything is on a small scale, but it's absolutely perfect. If you're over 6'2" you may find it too small...but I'm only 5'3" so I love it!
Guests can use the kitchen and other spaces out side of the guest room. I have a TV and DVD player. If it makes sense to watch something together, we very well might! (Anyone can use either when I'm not around!) I have access to wifi which works without incident 90% of the time...but if it needs to be re-set, the internet is unavailable until I can come home and re-set it. (But not to worry there are tons of cafes and restaurants on Elgin that have free wifi)
Interaction with Guests
I like people and am pretty chatty...but if the person wants to be left alone, that's ok. I'm not usually one to choose that option! I have been known to cook for guests, drink a little wine...hang out. I have had great experiences with my guests...so maybe if you're the "stay alone in your room type" you may like another place better! Of course it all depends on timing and work load etc. (of both parties).
This neighbourhood is known as the golden triangle. It is really beautiful with old houses and trees! The canal is two blocks away so close to skating in the winter and cycling or running in the summer. Rama Lotus yoga is just one of many studios within walking distance, and Elgin Street offers many distractions of the entertainment variety! I can give you a whittled down list of recommendations when I better know what you're looking for!
OC Transpo stops are close by going in all directions. Nothing is too far. But being right downtown, walking is my preferred choice of transport.
Other Things to Note
We share the building with three other apartments. I just expect general respect for the neighbours. No guests/friends over before asking me. No smoking inside or beside building...must go out to street.
Karen is a very kind and friendly host, and I felt safe and comfortable while I was staying at her place. The neighborhood is really nice too. It's a quiet family neighborhood, and you can walk to pretty much everywhere if you don't mind walking. It's a only 5-minute walk to the kid-friendly Museum of Nature!
A very cosy and quite place, with a very inviting little kitchen and access to a common living room equipped with a vintage turn table and a collection of excellent rock and folk LPs from the 60's and up.
Very nice and welcoming, with a hint of India in the decoration, meditative and located in a very convenient area of town close to Banks, good restaurants and great clubs. A must.
Karen is very friendly, responsive and a lovely person. Karen has made a very warm and familiar environment for me. Thanks Karen !!! I hope to see you soon !!!
Karen is so kind.
Her house's position is very useful.
It is easy to go to everywhere!
My stay with Karen was great! Karen is incredibly friendly and helped me feel comfortable in a new city. She gave me great dinner recommendations and made sure I had everything I needed for an enjoyable stay. The room is small, but it worked perfectly for my needs. The apartment is in a great location with many good restaurants around. Sandy is really awesome too!
Karan is a wonderful Lady. She is a very helpfull, caring, friendly.
I made a right decision to stay with her. Her dog- Sandy is also cute & quiet..I had a good time at karen's house....
Thank you Karen for everything.....
Friendly, even gave me a gift certificate for a local pub!
Great energy and because she was doing a favor for a friend, I had the whole place to myself!
First and foremost, I'm a people person! I love to experience different places and cultures. Love to cook and enjoy "breaking bread" with others...the best way to get to know people! I come from a fairly large family (for these times) and find it easy to share my space with others. I have lived away (Belize, India, Ecuador) and traveled to quite a few other places too. I think we're lucky to be born in Canada, to be able to travel with ease and to have access to so many entertaining things to do on any given night!! I love radio...community radio or CBC in particular. If you're here, you'll be offered food and probably given suggestions on something (or some band) to see! (Suggestions can be taken or ignored...not a problem!)
