The apartment is a recently-renovated studio with a historic charm. It features a big, romantic stone fireplace, tasteful, comfortable furnishings and decor, full kitchen, cable TV, wireless internet, a deliciously comfortable king-size bed, in a private yet convenient location.

The space
In the 1950's the house belonged to the legendary Ely Culbertson- father of American Contract Bridge and author of many books on bridge as well treatises on world peace and utopian world government. He was a character!

The beautiful wood-paneled walls, hardwood floors, view of our gardens, full bath, tasteful decor and a modern kitchen area make this space unique, welcoming and warm.

The location is ideal; the forest behind and beside the house give a feeling of being in a quiet, secluded home in the woods, yet the apartment is only a quarter-mile from Interstate 91 and a few hundred yards from Rt.9, the main east-west state highway leading to western Vermont and New Hampshire.

We are proud of our flower gardens which surround the house, including herbs and vegetables growing right outside your door; feel free to pluck some parsley or pick a tomato or two for your dinner! There's also a lovely place to sit outside for dining al fresco, and we provide a Weber charcoal grill so you can grill a steak or throw some shrimps on the barby.

The bustling, artsy town of Brattleboro is only 1.5 miles down the road. Just steps away is Brattleboro's renowned Farmers' Market, with fresh local produce, wonderful food stands and local arts and crafts. Five minutes walk will bring you to Memorial Park, with a summer swimming pool and other features, and nightly softball games under the lights.

Nearby are incredible hiking trails (there are some great trails right behind the house), swimming holes, canoe rentals, a terrific 18-hole golf course, and downtown you'll find unique shopping and fine dining (we've got lots of recommendations, from the tender ribs at the Top of the HIll grill to the exquisite gourmet fare of T.J. Buckleys.)

We renovated the apartment with vacation rentals in mind; unlike many airbnb rentals it is dedicated to our guests and you're free to make the space your own. There's plenty of closet space, private parking and a welcoming, homey feeling that we're sure you'll enjoy.

We do provide all the modern conveniences, including a dishwasher and large microwave, high-speed wifi internet, and cable TV with a "smart" tv that has open accounts for Netflix and Hulu.

We look forward to meeting you and hope you enjoy your stay here at the Culbertson House!

Where you’ll be

Brattleboro, Vermont, United States

Our studio is in a prime location in Brattleboro, near major thoroughfares yet secluded and quiet. Everything is close to here, but the same time it feels like you live in the forest. Steps away from the Brattleboro Farmers' Market, activities at Living Memorial Park, minutes from downtown Brattleboro. We're near a good 18-hole golf course, canoe rentals in the West River, and the funky and varied shops and restaurants of downtown Brattleboro are only a mile away. Ski and golf at Stratton or Mt. Snow, both about 40 minutes away.

I am an easy going host, my rental units are my primary job. I live in one of the apartments on the same property. It makes me almost always available and easy to reach, If I don't answer on the phone it means I am in the garden taking care of my flowers. . I speak Spanish, Russian and English. I love dogs and cats so they are welcome too. I can't live without good conversations, travel to warm countries and sleeping late. I don't like TV and novels, I believe life is much more interesting then art in general. Did I tell already that I am an artist?

The owners live next door, so while there is complete privacy with your own entrance and parking we are also right there for any problems or questions or if you just want to join us for a beverage or a BBQ in the garden.
