The Space

Incredible views of the island. Surrounded by hawaiian native plants, which invite the native birds. Quiet, relaxing, romantic, inspiring.

The Neighborhood

The views, the quiet, the stars at night.

  • Kalia was patiently receptive to all kinds of foolish questions (e.g. can I do a 20 mile hike through the crater & live?") The beautiful 20s building (with fascinating window fixtures), is not only located in the best place imaginable in Upcountry Maui, but is thoughtfully equipped with everything necessary for a comfortable stay (and is thoughtfully equipped with books & music rather than a TV). We would love to stay again!

  • This cabin was more than pictures can show, and words can describe. Beyond well-appointed, from the selection of books, to the coffee and creamer in the fridge, all you need to do is buy a steak and beer and you are in paradise.

I'll definitely be back, and appreciate it's existence and availability.

  • Lovely spacious unique place to stay. Very clean. Lots more room than the photos depict. Wonderful views. This place was cool in temperature at night, we loved it as easier to sleep, however they do provide wood for a wood burner if required. The place is not far from the entrance to the Haleakala National park (volcano). The final road up to the cabin is a steep single track and not for the faint hearted, with concrete underneath for all the way apart from the drive way up to the cabin which was grass (no turning point and difficult to reverse out of). We decided only to make the trip up the grassy driveway twice in our 4 night stay as we thought the car might get stuck (given it had been raining a lot). Pick up groceries before you arrive as we drove 15 minutes to find a supermarket.

  • If you are looking for a secluded maui location with an amazing view and proximity to the volcano - this is it !

Beautiful old log cabin with all the amenities (except the TV and the internet that we didn't miss) that our family really enjoyed.

It is a bit far from the beaches, but still drivable. The private road up the hill is kinda tricky, definitely arrive before dark for the first time there.

Overall - strongly recommended. great value especially if you are planning to tour the volcano!

    Boris.

About
I'm 8th generation born in the Islands, and although I went to college on 'the mainland', Maui has always been home. I love surfing, hiking and yoga, and the work I do. I've hosted guests in Kula, Haiku and Kuau - and love meeting and hosting travelers from around the world. I love playing in the ocean and the mountains - and love a good city trip too! New York, San Francisco and Vancouver are some of my favorite recent city trips, but there's nothing like coming home to the quiet of the jungle on Maui. Look around, there are countless things to be grateful for!
