Nice stay with a local - she was a great host even though she doesnt speak english.
Gioconda was a very gracias host and we got along well, despite my limited Spanish. She even introduced me to a native fruit of Costa Rica! The house is located in a safe area within walking distance to restaurants, markets, and the central bus station. It's a perfect no frills crash pad for exploring the Quepos and Manuel Antonio areas.
I stayed at friends of Gioconda. they picked me up at the bus station in quepos, the place was a bit far from town and you cannot walk into town from there. but there is a supermercado and you got your own kitchen so it was really nice. super friendly family and I really enjoyed the experience!
Ok. We spent four great nights in the beautiful seaside town of quepos with gioconda. The first morning we awoke to about ten to twelve monkeys hangin around in the backyard garden. We shared nice breakfasts of fried plantains and coffee on the back patio. Giocondas daughter maria, who speaks english, lives next door with her husband jose. They were super nice and very helpful. There is something special about the little Port of Quepos on the Pacific. I would recommend staying with gioconda!
This was the cheapest place around, a little bit outside of the town, but not too far from the bus stop and attractions. Our host was very pleasant, though she didn't speak English, and she let us do our laundry for free! The room however, was tiny, unbearably hot and the bed was covered with dead bugs. The bed was also very uncomfortable. The kitchen was dirty often with pots of old food covering the counters. The bathroom was fine and the warm shower was nice. Overall, you get what you pay for, if you are on a tight budget and can sleep anywhere give it a try, if cleanliness and comfort is a issue give it a pass.
Gioconda is a lovely host, She had a light snack and a fresh squeezed juice waiting on my arrival. I speak no spanish and she spoke no english but somehow we managed to communicate in a friendly fashion. Her son and daughter who don’t live with her speak good english. She has a friendly well behaved dog.You can’t get a back packer room on your own for what Gioconda is charging and you have your own shower and toilet. There are two mini supermarkets close by and the big pali supermarket a little further. She is just a few minutes walk to downtown quepos and the bus station, and a few hundred meters from the bus stop to popular Manuel Antonio beach ¬¬and the ride will cost you about fifty cents, buses run every half hour and more often in peak season. You will be staying in a real tico area with the local pub just round the corner with friendly patrons/owner probably even better if you speak spanish, they do meals – I had a plate of chips and a stubby of beer for about three dollars eighty and another time tico rice with shrimps and chips and a stubby for the same price, the girl in the kitchen speaks english. Giocondas property is just a few doors down from hotel romantica villas, opposite the car wash.
