Cute 1950's house with peaceful zen garden and meditation/fitness room.
Excellent location is within easy walking distance to historic downtown San Luis Obispo (8 blocks), train station (4 blocks), restaurants (4 blocks), bike/running trail (4 blocks) and hiking trails (6 blocks). Plenty of additional hiking, biking, beautiful beaches and wine tasting opportunities are all within a 12 mile radius. The two-bedroom house is very homey with hardwood floors throughout. The kitchen is fully stocked with plenty of dishes and equipment for preparing home cooked meals and goodies. An R.O. unit provides filtered water for drinking and cooking. There is also a laundry room with a washer and dryer.
There are several fruit trees in the front yard that you can help yourself to if you happen to be here while the fruit is ripe. There are usually oranges year-round (think fresh-squeezed juice for breakfast). The plums and peaches are ready for picking in June/July and are delicious!
The backyard has a patio area with a table for outdoor dining in a private and peaceful setting next to a small pond. I normally have some tomato plants and assorted greens growing in raised bed throughout the summer that you are welcome to help yourself to. Then step through the arbor into a shady secret garden area with a meditation fountain, bench, lanterns and a small bistro table where it's heaven just to sit and have a glass of wine while you listen to the bubbling water.
Our resident cat, Lucy, comes with the house. She is a little shy at first, but she is a sweet, affectionate kitty once she warms up. She comes and goes through her cat doors.
I want to add a few small disclaimers here so as not to mislead anyone:
1. While there are two bedrooms in the house, ideally the house accommodates a maximum of two because A.) there is only one smallish bathroom, and B.) there is only one "real" bed, which is a queen bed in the main bedroom. The second bedroom has a surprisingly comfortable queen air mattress that can be set up but that takes up pretty much all of the floor space in the room once it is inflated. The second bedroom also has a not-terribly-comfortable futon (approx. full size) if preferred.
2. There are two 24" TVs and two DVD players for watching movies. There is currently no cable or satellite service although I do have a Roku box which is set up to receive streaming from Netflix, Amazon Prime, Crackle, etc. I also get four local TV stations via an HD antenna. I have a few DVD movies in the house to choose from, and there are DVD rentals available at Vons, etc. I also have HDMI and DVI cables available so that you can connect your laptop to the HDTV in the main bedroom and watch streaming movies from any personal accounts you may subscribe to.
3. There is no dishwasher - other than you ;-)
4. The treadmill in the fitness room photos is on the fritz, so that is temporarily not one of the amenities of the house.

Lia's house was perfect for our stay in San Luis Obispo. The house itself was charming and very comfortable, with a great backyard for relaxing. It completely met our expectations based on the description provided by the host. Lia was prompt in responding to questions and her suggestions for hikes were right on. Great location for walking downtown for the Thursday night farmers market, sightseeing, and breweries. Lucy the cat was super cool. We would stay here again.
We enjoyed an idyllic stay at this beautiful little house over the holidays. The weather was beautiful and gave us plenty of opportunity to relax in the garden and enjoy the sounds of the fountain. The house is cozy but spacious, and the resident cat Lucy was very friendly and cute, even if she did have a habit of occupying any recently-vacated chair :)
We cooked several times in the very well-equipped kitchen, and were even able to make fresh orange juice with oranges from the tree in the front garden.
The house is very short walk from a grocery store, and less than 10 mins walk from the center of town - there is a lovely scenic route over the railway bridge. The town has plenty of nice relaxed restaurants and bars, and a pretty creek to walk along tucked behind the main street. There is also a beautiful hike not very far away (probably more than one but we were too lazy to check them all out).
Lastly, Lia was incredibly helpful and friendly: she was able to help me book a non-standard trip length to start with; she followed up with a ton of useful info by email; she was really accommodating about early check-in; we were in frequent contact by text which made showing up and getting in very easy; and lastly she even gave us a ride to the airport on our last day! She could not have been a better host.
My husband and I were on a work vacation. Lia's house was perfect with a nice desk and good internet reception to work from. The house was so well equipped. We loved the outdoor area (with the beautiful fountains and enjoyed biking into town. We had a wonderful experience. I would highly recommend LIa's cottage.
This charming home was the purrfect place for me and my traveling companion. Not only was it in a great lication and had a backyard to die for, it came complete with cat! Lia was a great hostess, had maps, suggestions and equipped her home with every amenity a guest could ask for. Great experience, grwat time. Thank you Lia.
Lia's welcoming home is as bright and cheerful as she is! Her kitchen is a marvel and she has thought of every detail to make your stay one of comfort and peace. The gardens and fountain are a special delight. I won't spoil it by giving it away, but there is a magical thing that occurs at night that caught me completely by surprise! Definitely plan to spend some time sipping tea (or wine!) on the patio after sunset. Lucy, the cat, adds homeyness and warmth to an already perfect setting. It is an easy walk to the historic downtown district if you want a little exercise. I only wish I could have stayed longer and most assuredly will be back. Thanks so much, Lia, for the much needed and peaceful break!
Lia's home was perfect for our family. We loved the walk downtown, enjoyed the quiet neighborhood and especially liked the coziness of the house. It felt as if we were staying at a friend's home. I wish we could have spent more time relaxing in the lovely garden area, but we had a full schedule and were out and about most days. The desk area was a plus for doing some necessary work on the trip. My son loved playing with Lucy, who came and went as she pleased. We were able to meet Lia upon arrival and she was very helpful and easy to communicate with pre visit questions. The information she has put together about the house and surrounding area is very helpful. Be sure to take advantage of the short hike close by for great sunset views.
Wonderful house and location, not to mention the human-friendly cat, Lucy.
Our stay at Lia's wonderful home was all that we wished for and more! We loved the house, the gardens (fresh fruit, tomatoes, and herbs), the close proximity to town, and the great hikes. Lucy was there to meet us when we arrived and seemed content to accept us as her temporary family; she was a sweet, quiet presence throughout our extended stay. Although we did not meet our host Lia, we were impressed with her obvious concern for our comfort; she clearly anticipates her guests' needs and can be contacted easily should questions arise. If you plan on visiting SLO town, THIS is the place to stay. You will not be disappointed. We would return in a heartbeat.
Lia's house is charming, welcoming, warm and exactly as advertised. We wanted for nothing - everything is very well thought out and organized. Lucy is a delightful addition to a delightful home. The gardens are Zen and spectacular with so much packed into such a small space - fruit trees, flowers, herbs and vegetables. We had fresh squeezed orange juice with fruit from the tree every morning and ate peaches and plums right from the trees as well. The furniture, including the beds, is very comfortable, the kitchen is fully stocked, the house is spotless and I can't imagine going back to SLO and not staying there. We are thrilled with our new discovery and HIGHLY recommend Lia's charming and welcoming home.
My husband and I absolutely loved this charming little house. Lia was very helpful in getting us oriented and has a great list prepared that covers all sorts of questions. The house had everything we could want and was very comfortable. The garden in both the front and back yard are lovely. The fresh fruit from the trees out front were a dream. This place is a jewel!
