Interaction with Guests
There is so much to discover in the area. the house is a wonderful refuge to return to at the end of an exhausting day walking, cycling, mountain climbing, water ski-ing or sitting meditating at the edge of the lake. If Guests wish to dine at the homestead it is an option which can be negotiated on arrival.
The house is in the country. Not far from the village but too far to walk for dinner, it is necessary to drive. There are amazing restaurants in the village for whatever one' particular tastes are, pizza, fine dining, international flavours or a fusion. There are two movie theatres one very quirky and the other very luxurious, at both one is able to take a glass of wine into the theatre

Although this is the homestead on the vineyard wine is not provided nor is it for sale at the house. If one wishes to have an aperitif, bring a bottle! Lois is a very relaxed person and just wishes that her house guests enjoy themselves and feel at home.
We had a wonderful experience staying at the house on rippon winery! Lois was extremely welcoming and gave a great dinner recommendation. It was also a great experience to be a part of the morning huddle on the winery. The house is extremely cozy especially the fireplace. We would definitely recommend and come back!
My stay at Rippon winery was the highlight of my trip in New Zealand, Lois was such an amazing host beyond words, the house has so much charm and the view over the winery and wanaka lake are mesmerising, the room was perfect et the bed so comfy, i had beautiful view over wanakaa lake from my room. i really felt home during my stay, Lois is a wonderful person, she accepted my booking an hour before i came as it was very last minute and as i dont drive she even picked me
up in town, the breakfast is so delightful everything is homemade with fresh organic produce from her garden, i cant recommend enough to come here, i had such an amazing time there and i will make sure that if i ever come back this way to stay there and hopefully for a longer time.
Thanks you again Lois for your warmth and your amazing spirit. My time at Rippon was beautiful.
Delightful places, Lois' house and the Rippon Vineyards. It was a weird chance / spontaneous occurrence that led to my meeting with Lois and am glad for it. Lois, the matriarch of the place is a fun, thoughtful and busy person, adept at multitasking. Had a nice time with her and family, talking various topics. The house is an old villa with its quirks and charms. The setting, location and company were perfect. My stay in Wanaka was elevated by Lois and co. Thank you! Two thumbs up.
I will tell you right now that if I ever recommend to anyone to visit Wanaka (and I constantly do!), that this place would have to rank as one of the high spots to stay during any such trip. Rippon is a family vineyard and winery, and you are actually staying in the home of the matriarch of the family, right on the grounds, and in the heart, of the operation! While Lois may seem a bit aloof at first, it is clear she is a generous and welcoming person (and quite talented in the kitchen, I might add!) who is smart, no nonsense, and all business! In a sense, there were times when I almost felt as if I offended her, but she is clearly a most trusting and generous host to open up her personal home, or villa, as I would characterize it, to guests on a daily basis. The history of her family in the area, and the grounds and the views which one enjoys because of it, are incomparable, and one has free range to roam and explore and take many many pictures, as I did. You won't regret staying here …. except for that mattress and springs of the bed I was staying in …. hmmmmm …. its still a stay I would highly recommend!
We felt so lucky to be able to stay with Lois. Her amazing home is full of character & warmth. She was happy to chat with us in the kitchen over a glass of wine, giving us great tips for exploring Wanaka. Her advice to have dinner at White House Cafe led to one of our best meals in New Zealand. She even loaned me an extra wool sweater to wear on our hike at Rob Roy Glacier. Our accommodations were comfortable & clean with stunning views of the morning sunrise.
This is the reason why Airbnb exists- more than just a place to stash your bags & sleep, it's an opportunity to get to know someone like Lois and share in their home & life.
Lois was an absolute amazing host. The gorgeous scenic views speak for themselves but she went above and beyond to accommodate us with a comfortable setting to get some work done while on vacation as well as to help us prepare (clothing and accessory wise) for our long morning hike up Mt Roy. Staying in her home and meeting Lois was very special to us as she is the matriarch of the Rippon Vineyard and has built a life on the property. If you are going to stay in Wanaka - stay with Lois! Also she is a great cook and prepared us a awesome breakfast and snack/lunch for our hike. Thanks again Lois!
Beautiful views, comfy bed, tasty breakfast. An all around positive experience.
I am a widow and a grand-mother of 6 (between the ages of 3 and 8) which keeps me occupied. My three children live in Wanaka and are involved in the business. I play golf, and tennis and read avidly. I love wine, food, movies, music and my garden. I retired from the business 8 years ago which my husband and I set up 30 years ago. I now enjoy travelling for pleasure rather than for business and I love my life in France where I spend a part of each year. My house is a family home with a lot of history, it is not a show home, it is where I live, I want my guests to experience my corner of paradise. And I love hosting AirBnB travellers. I have been hosted in Vietnam, Czech and Germany with AirBnB in the last year, all great experiences.
