Napa Valley Wine Country Cottage

Loft - Entire home/apt · Lake Street, Calistoga, CA 94515, United States

Large bedroom in guest house second floor loft, queen-size bed, sitting area overlooking wisteria. Full bathroom on first floor. Five minute walk to downtown Calistoga. Central location to many restaurants, wineries, hiking, hotsprings and spas.

The Space

This cozy suite is in a refurbished loft space over our garage. Guests will sleep soundly in the queen-size bed, curled up in new bedding, including a down comforter. Or have a seat in the big, comfy reading chair by the window. The bathroom is downstairs on the side of the building.

Guest Access

In addition to the private use of the room and bathroom, guests can sit on the front or back porches of the main house to have a coffee, a drink, or just enjoy the day. If you need to store something in the refrigerator or use our washer/dryer, just ask.

Interaction with Guests

At least one member of the family will likely be on site in the main house, to assist with anything guests might need.

The Neighborhood

Calistoga is a postcard of a town, with great little shops, coffee houses, bars, and restaurants, all of which are a mere four blocks from our house. Calistoga is located along Highway 29 and the Silverado trail, both of which feature great wineries and beautiful scenery, which you can drive, or even bike, to.

Getting around

Public transportation ("The Vine") available in town. We also have two bikes available to borrow, just ask.

Other Things to Note

We are asking for a small one time cleaning fee because we don't have a minimum number of nights and it is time consuming to clean the unit between guests.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • Only here for a night, but a great place to crash in napa. Hosts were accommodating to our check-out needs and we enjoyed our stay.

As others have said, the downstairs bathroom can be a bit strange if you get up in the middle of the night, but I can't imagine it being inconvenient unless it was raining, so it's worth factoring possible weather when planning.

  • Great spot! Really wonderful bed. Thanks for making it super easy.

  • We did not see our hosts but everything was open as communicated. Most comfortable bed in the world and very high quality linens. Space beautiful and clean as on pictures. Since the bathroom is down outside stairs and in an outside space and bathroom light can't be turned on while bedroom heater is on we recommend a flashlight be left by the door for middle of night trips.

  • My friend and I stayed for the weekend, and we very much enjoyed our time in this cottage. The location was very convenient, the price was relatively cheap for that area, and the room was homey and cozy. The place was equipped to meet all of our needs, with extra blankets, towels, bathrobes, a heater, etc., and the room was plenty spacious and comfortable. Further, the hosts were gracious to quickly respond to my e-mail and to send to me my toiletries bag that I absent-mindedly left at the cottage. Thank you the wonderful stay!

  • I stayed here for 3 nights during a cold week in March when it rained. Putting on shoes and walking outside for the bathroom was more inconvenient than I hoped it would be.

Even with the inconveniences, this room is a good value at this price. The location is great; short walking distance to downtown Calistoga and long walking distance to my conference at Solage. The room is well-furnished, very clean, and comfortable. I might stay here again for a shorter period during a warmer, drier season.

  • great little place. comfortable and great location. only thing to note is that the bathroom in not attached to the room, but it wasn't an issue for me. loved my stay!

  • We probably should have paid more attention to previous reviews, because if we had, we would not have stayed here. My husband bumped his head on the sides of the ceiling in the room, and he also bumped his head on the uneven ceiling in the bathroom. I was uncomfortable using the tiny cramped rustic bathroom with a 4" opening in the bottom of the door. It was eerie, inconvenient, and cold taking the stairs outside the room, (which is located above the garage), down to the bathroom at night. I must say that our bed was comfortable, and the person who greeted us at the beginning of our stay, was very kind and helped me with my luggage. In regards to our stay, I'm always open for new experiences, but this is one that didn't work for us.

    Response from Dan:

We are sorry that your husband bumped his head multiple times. This has not been a problem thus far with our previous guests.

We are also sorry that you found the unit "cramped" and "eerie." While our guests are, of course, free to describe the unit as they see fit, we maintain (and our previous guests have agreed) that the cottage provides plenty of room for two people. Furthermore, the description and photos of the cottage provide an accurate image of the size and condition of the rooms.

We thank you for your candor in providing constructive criticism, which we will use to further improve the cottage for future guests.

  • We enjoyed our stay at Dan's Cottage. The room was beautiful clean and spacious with a nice big comfy bed with lots of natural light and the views from anywhere in town are spectacular. This cottage the perfect location, walking distance to down town Calistoga and only a short drive to many many wineries and great restaurants.

Dan's brother was there too meet us, even tough we were a bit late (sorry :S) and was very helpful throughout our two day stay. He gave us some ideas of places to check out town (much appreciated).

I would highly recommend this place!

  • My girlfriend and I stayed here for the Napa Valley Marathon. The cottage is nicely situated close to downtown Calistoga (and the starting line). Though we didn't get to meet Dan, he was nice enough to let us use the shower after the race despite having another guest coming shortly in the afternoon. Room is cozy and looks like the photo. It didn't rain very hard but you will get wet going to the downstairs bathroom.

  • It was a warm cozy romantic and very clean private cottage. We loved staying there even we had to go out to downstairs for the bathroom during the rain. We couldnt meet Dan and Rebekah during our stay( they were out of town) but Dan's brother was always there to help us. We loved every minute of our stay. Highly recommend the place. (Very nicely decorated as well)
