I had such a magical stay at the wonderful Casa de Surrealista. Alejandra was nothing but helpful and her banana bread is out of this world ! I had a room on the ground floor, it was lovely and clean with hot running water. My only complaint is that it is noisy in the room from the outside. So if you happen to get that room, bring earplugs.

Our stay at Casa Surreal was almost "surreal", in a good way. The property is well located (half way between downtown Xilitla and Edward James' garden), clean and well kept. The pool, the bar, and the in-room AC were a (very welcome) bonus. The included breakfast was simple but tasty: home-baked banana bread, cereal, OJ and local (delicious) coffee. Although we only met Alejandra briefly the last day, she responded promptly during the booking process. She had to cancel the last day of our stay due to overbooking (a bit disappointing), but she handled it professionally: apologizing and offering to help us book an alternative accommodation. We spent more time with Emilio, who takes care of the property. He was very nice and went the extra mile to make us feel at home. The last day we had to leave very early (5am) and he left everything ready for us to have breakfast before leaving. Last, but not least, his Micheladas with Clamato are a must!

The hotel was perfect, good location, very closer in downtown and surrealist garden, Alejandra and her team was very kind, and have a good breakfast! She gave us advice the best places to go in xilitla and around there, we are going to back soon, the best place to stay in Xilitla.

Alejandra was very helpful and quick to respond to my messages. Her staff when we arrived were brilliant and allowed us to drop out bags off early, use the wifi and toilets before check in time and advised us what to do for the day. We were there to visit Las Pozas and their tips were very useful. The pool was lovely and it was refreshing to dip and drink a mezcal at the end of a humid day. However, our room which faced the pool was very damp, clothes that I had hand-washed did not dry even with the aircon and the fan on. The room smelled musty but was otherwise clean. The fan and a/c would have been useful on a hot day and the shower was good and hot. Breakfast was a very basic and casual affair - it was a nice piece of banana bread but it was more of a snack and a coffee to grab on your way out, rather than a sit-down and relax affair. The room was expensive compared to other places we had stayed all over Mexico, it was pleasant but could have done with a few nicer homely touches to make it feel cozy and a designated place to eat breakfast and maybe some useful bits like milk and fruit or jams.

The place is beautiful and really near the park, our room was beautifully decorated and we even had a nice dinner outside, cooked by the staff and Alejandra (with the help of her cute little daughter). Alejandra was a great host, very friendly, she helped us with everything she could and gave us tips about the rest of our trip around Mexico (great tips!). Would definitely recommend staying here.
