Steps away around the corner are several different restaurant choices, grocers, and bus lines to other parts of the East Bay and San Francisco.
Interaction with Guests
Your hosts are two friendly, respectful, and married gay men, Andy and Noah, plus our sweet and gentle dog Kala and cat Wesley. We are both working professionals, typically out of the house by 8 am during the week and back between 5 and 7 pm. On the weekends, we're often around, in between outings such as hitting up the farmers market, going on a hike with our dog, etc. Even when we are home, you may experience complete privacy if that is your wish, or friendly talk if that is better for you. Our bedroom and bathroom are in the back of the house, behind the kitchen, relatively separate from the guest suite.
We are located conveniently in the diverse and walkable Laurel neighborhood, just steps away from shops and restaurants such as:
- Farmer Joe's (grocer and bulk foods)
- World Ground Coffee Shop
- Sequoia Diner (local organic breakfast and brunch)
- Phnom Penh Cambodian Restaurant
- Fist of Flour (wood fired pizza)
- Communite Table Restaurant
- Louisiana Fried Chicken
- House of Produce (grocer)
- Café of the Bay (breakfast and brunch)
- Bank of America (branch and ATM)
- Citibank ATM
- Wells Fargo ATM
- Ace Hardware
- Shell (gas station)
- 76 (gas station)
- LaFranchi's (liquor and corner store)
Lake Merritt, the "Jewel of Oakland," is about 3 miles away, or 5-10 minutes by car. Downtown Oakland is also about a 10 minute drive.
Getting around from our home is probably more convenient with a car, however it is possible to get around entirely with public transit. There are several bus options literally steps away - bus to BART or directly to San Francisco. During commuting hours there are express busses that make getting to and from downtown SF a breeze.
Downtown San Francisco is about 16 miles, or 25 minutes away with light traffic. There is street parking available on our street. We are located near the I-580 and CA-13 freeways for easy access to the East Bay and greater Bay Area. You can also drive to Fruitvale BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) station in about 7 minutes, park there ($2-$5/day), and hop on a BART train. BART trains typically run about every 10-20 minutes from Fruitvale station and will connect you to San Francisco, San Francisco Airport, and beyond. From Fruitvale BART, the train ride is 17 minutes to the first San Francisco stop.
With public transportation, total "door-to-door" travel time between our home and downtown San Francisco usually ranges from 35 minutes to 1 hour each way, depending on time of day, and total cost ranges from $4.20 to $4.85 per person each way. Generally travel to/from SF during peak commuting hours is on the quicker side (with express bus to SF), whereas travel during off hours and on weekends tends to range more like 45+ minutes (slow bus to SF or local bus + BART).
We are located half a block block from a bus stop serving AC Transit bus lines 14, 57, and NX//NX2. Additional bus lines 54, 58L, NL, and NX3 stop within 5 blocks.
The nearest BART station (Fruitvale) is about 2 miles away. You can take bus lines 14 or 54 to get there. From Fruitvale BART, the train ride is 17 minutes to the first San Francisco stop.
If you plan to stay out late in San Francisco, it's good to remember that the last BART trains runs from SF back to Oakland around midnight.

This is my first time staying with air bnb and I couldn't be happier!!! Noah and Andy where great hosts they were so welcoming and friendly I wish I could have stayed with them longer it was such an awesome time! Everything was comfortable and clean ! I would recommend staying with them 100 percent
The house is a cute bungalow style home in the Laurel District which is a culturally diverse and up-and-coming neighborhood. You can sip on fair trade organic coffee while surfing the web at World Ground Cafe. Mmm hmm . . . we had some really, really, good BBQ.
Also the neighborhood offers some of the best nature spots in the area. We were minutes away from the Redwood Forest Parks, a scene worthy of a painting. All of these Redwoods standing tall right smack in the middle of Oakland. Also, commuting from the Laurel District to SF was very good. Oh, and the bed…..we had the most comfortable sleep experience. The room is light and airy with nice little touches. Loved lying in bed watching Netflix.
Noah & Andy, thank you for your amazing hospitality and allowing us to share your home.
Our 6 day stay at Andy's and Noah's couldn't have been any better. Those two are the most sweet and open-minded hosts you can wish for. They were very supportive, answerd all our questions and enrichend our stay with their various recommendations - Hot Harbon Springs, if you know what we mean :-).
The room is seperate, clean and cosy with a private bathroom. Privacy was Respected at all Times. Due to the lovely details we felt welcomed from the very start. Their dog Kala is supercute and well-behaved. The neighbourhood is nice and you can find all you need close by.
We would love to stay with them again Should we ever Return to San Francisco. Thank you for everything, we had a really good time!
Noah and Andy are the perfect hosts! Respectful, friendly and with a stunning home. We absolutely loved staying with them. The room and bathroom are beautiful and private and the memory foam mattress is absolutely heavenly. We were so pleased to stay in a transgender friendly environment with two wonderfully friendly men and their perfectly behaved and sweet pets. We felt very at home and comfortable here. We also found a wonderful cafe called world grounds only a few minutes walk away. I cannot give you enough reasons to book a stay here! Perfect Air BnB experience!
Had an awesome stay at Noah & Andy's place. They are super friendly and accommodating.
my time with Noah and Andy was wonderful! From the second they met me at the door they were warm, inviting, welcoming, and all around amazing... they went out of their way to make sure everything was pristine before I got there and that the level remained at the highest standards all week long... they really think of everything! I've never felt such genuine care and concern from two people who I've never met in my entire life.. they handled themselves with the utmost professionalism while making me feel like a lifelong friend from day one... i have to believe they are the epitome of what air bnb is all about!!! thnks so much, guys!!
