The space
This Tarentaise home has a beautiful view of the French Alps from all three levels, 50 meter walking distance to the piste, and possesses a hidden private parking.
We chose to wrap the chalet’s exterior in recuperated wood from local mountain homes that were either planned to be razed or had been abandoned. The same wood was used to dress the interior of Montanum, expressing the continuity of the brilliant colors and shades that define the façade’s visual language.

The interior is a contemporary interpretation of chalet living. Shelter, warmth and comfort are the key themes expressed in its shared living spaces. The mountain savvy family will delight in the mountain views and upstairs living room's thoughtfully planned cocoons.

The top floor’s open kitchen to living room plan is dappled in uncommon earthy greens, reds and browns - all inspired by the moss covered rocks, clustered tree tops, and varying light of a day in the French Alps.

Montanum's intelligently disposed interior communicates a sense of quiet luxury. Circulate from the South African marble kitchen to the parlor's corten fireplace in a few steps. Seat friends and family beneath the dining space's rhythmic beams and enjoy the convivial evening atmosphere.
The materials adorning Montanum's interior fulfill the image of the iconic mountain “chalet” while its open floor plan redefines it on elegant, modern, stylish terms.

Special considerations were taken for each of the four bedrooms. Three, including the master, are on the second floor. The final bedroom is a fully furnished suite on the ground floor. Each has ample closet space, charming wooden accents, and an individual bathroom.

Their differences lie in their dimensions and details, giving each room its character. Unique lighting, one-of-a-kind benches, flowing drapes, and custom headboards veiled in hand-sewn fabric. The only debate is whether it is more satisfying to fall asleep or wake up in one of these rooms.
