We enjoyed our stay at Alberto and Andrea's charming cabin. What is not shown in the picture is the private deck near the parilla with two lounge chairs and a small dining table set where we had breakfast amidst fresh morning air. At night, we relaxed on the deck watching the stars. Although there were other cabanas nearby, the design of the buildings and the well-placed shrubs and trees gave us much privacy.
We hitched a ride with Alberto to the nearby Parque National Santa Teresa and walked back on our own along the beach. The hike took a few hours, but we saw some of the most pristine and beautiful beaches in the world. Strolling along Playa Grande shortly before sunset was a trip highlight. The clean and shiny sand reflected the colors of the sky like mirror. Bring a flashlight in case you need to walk back in the dark. We also brought a mate set with us (with a thermos) and enjoyed the herbal drink by the beach like a typical Uruguayan. Beachside restaurants and bars offer hot water for sale by the thermos, which was a new experience for me.
The nearby small grocery store was well-stocked and sold freshly baked bread and pastries. We took pleasure cooking in the kitchen while enjoying a glass of wine. Alberto even brought us a blender upon request. (Note: the larger grocery story a block from the beach offers better fruits and vegetables.) He also let me use his laptop to make bookings for our ferry ride to Buenos Aires.
We did not have a car, but had no problem walking to the beach, bus station and town center, especially as we were on vacation mode and were not in a rush. The roads were quiet and unpaved, and the walk was a chance to explore our surrounding. Our hosts also sent a ride to pick us up from the bus station. Overall--a delightful visit.
Recomendo.
Anfitriões ótimos, boa localização e casa limpa e tranquila. Ótima escolha!
We immensely enjoyed our stay with Andrea and Alberto. Alberto was extremely attentive while Andrea was away working. He recommended a great pizza restaurant (La Svolta) which we loved! All the amenities were there just as it was listed. The beds were comfortable. We slept wonderfully! The neighborhood matched up to what we expected since we had been to PdeD before. There is a nice neighborhood store a short walk away that has just about anything you need. We are people who do not require a lot of fluff so Andrea and Alberto´s place was perfect for us. Thank you so much guys for everything.
