And buzz is about us! Oak Island is perhaps one of the most beautiful islands in the North Atlantic. Everywhere you look, is a Kodak moment. The lighting changes continually with atmospheric conditions as well as the time of day, making Oak Island a photographers dream come true and the nature lovers paradise.

The space
Oak Island is approximately 23 acres at low tide and 17 acres at high tide with over one mile of shoreline and seven different beaches . There are several miles of hiking trails throughout the island. There's even a beach we call Skip rock which is made up of perfectly sized flat stones for the ultimate skip... try your luck make sure to let us know how you did!

From June through October hundreds of different species of wildflowers are cycling through Oak Island along with spruce, juniper, beautiful lupine, beach rose and gooseberry then throw in the occasional Bald eagles and you've got a nature lovers dream.

Swimming on one of Oak's many beaches is truly amazing, crystal clear, cold and yes... refreshing. If you swim in June, like my Dad does you're in the club as the water temperature is generally only in the 50s. By July, the water temperature reaches the low to mid 60s. By August and September water temperatures could be pushing 70 especially on a hot sunny day with the incoming tide. You can actually swim and enjoy the water without turning blue. Look at the upside, the water is too cold for sharks although you might come out with a couple of lobsters hanging off your toes.

Speaking of lobsters, rise with the sun and catch the hum of lobster boats as they pass around the island pulling their traps.
If fresh lobsters is your fancy, try your luck by flagging down one of the boats and and if they're not too busy you'll be enjoying the freshest lobsta you've ever had. Ahh... if you enjoy mussels this is where the fun begins.. there are millions of them on the rocks at dead low tide. Grab a bucket, a pairing knife from the cabin and fill the bucket with some seawater then start your hunt. Once you've got your bounty take a seat by the shoreline with pairing knife in hand and start scraping those barnacles off of the shells. If you don't, particles from the barnacles make their way into your sauce and potentially ruin our feast. Enjoy!!

WE HAVE SOME NICE DRONE FOOTAGE OF OAK SHOWING SOME OF THE BEACHES. PLEASE NOTE THE CLARITY OF THE WATER ....... ENJOY

ACCOMMODATIONS
There are two sets of accommodations on the island for you.

Main Cabin: Located on a knoll at an elevation of about 50 feet. It faces south, west and north with spectacular views!! A one room cottage approximately 16' x 24' with a 10 foot wrap around deck. Inside the cabin is a propane refrigerator, and 2 burner cook stove along with a small kitchen area, there's also a barbecue grill on the deck. Sleeping Arrangements: Double Futon and two single bunk style cushions that run along the window. A sitting area with a selection of reading material.

O.I.L.S. Accommodations: Dubbed the Oak Island Love Shack. The love shack, is situated on a knoll facing east taking in the most beautiful sunrises along with the sound of the waves lapping against the shore while you sleep. A one room cabin 12' x 14' with a queen size bed made from driftwood found around the shoreline complete with a beautiful wrap around deck.

Note: linens and towels are not supplied.

UTILITIES
Electricity in the main cabin is provided by solar. You must conserve power or you might run out. We yet to run out but if you have several cloudy days and you're using a lot of electricity it could happen so just be mindful.

There's an outside shower under the main cabin with water supplied from the rain barrels as well as a Solar Sun Bag which will be a bit warmer if you leave it in the sun for a while. If all else fails..just heat up a bucket of water and have an ole fashion bucket bath.

The Loo: who needs electricity ... . we have two outhouses located a short walk from each cabin.

Cell phones generally work fine on the island sometimes you may have to move around a bit to get the proper location.

Rain water is collected and stored in vats on the outside of the cabin for showering and doing dishes PLEASE DO NOT DRINK OR COOK WITH THIS WATER

GETTING THERE
If you do not have your own boat we can recommend a USCG Licensed charter company that leaves out of Lincolnville, ME. Parking is also available. Transfer costs are $340.00 one way.
We'll put you in direct contact with Ben to schedule and coordinate your transfers.

Guest access
You'll have un-interrupted access to the entire island.
