Hitomi is a nice & friendly person, v helpful & kind enough to help us with the luggages & guide us to the house from the JR station. The dinners she prepared were simple & good. As she noticed, we were 'dynamic' eater, but regret we didn't find 'dynamic' food on the table. One thing to note here is that we had to sacrifice our sight seeing time in the evening, just to rush back to attain her dinner, which is inclusive in the charges.
Overall, it's acceptable, best if Hitomi can put some efforts to tidy up the rooms, kitchen & bathroom.
'Arigato Gozaimase, Hitomi!'
I started my three month stay in Japan by spending three weeks at Hitomis lovely home. It was the best decision I could have made. Her house became like home with a warm bed and home cooked meals. The house is very close to the train station and you can get anywhere in Kyoto and surrounding area from there. There is also a coin laundry a few blocks from the train station, very clean with a sweet attendant who has hangers and exact change. Hitomi is a lovely person who does not speak a lot of English but does very well communicating, she also has a great laugh and laughs easily. Wonderful experience!
I wasn't as happy with my stay as many other visitors. The place was quite messy both in the room and common space and I always felt like I was intruding when I was in the common space. The whole house reeked of kerosene as well and there were containers of it stored throughout the house which I found to be strange.
As for the food, I think there is much better food in Kyoto than what we were served. I would recommend staying elsewhere and going out for food, it is such a great part of visiting in Japan! Coming back for dinner was a bit of a pain as well.
Hitomi was a gracious host. Her folder of pamphlets and information on area attractions was invaluable. Despite the language barrier, we were able to communicate enough to make the stay pleasant!
Hitomi's place is very close from hokata station. Your stay will be very traditional with the food and guests language interaction when arriving, leaving or during dinner which is nice. She doesn't know English to well but that didn't hinder communication.
Staying at Hitomi's was a fun experience. Both she and her daughter were very nice and welcoming and it was fun so have dinner with her and the other travelers while staying at her place. She also had a full packet of ideas regarding things to do around the area which was a great help!
Hitomi offers a stay in a genuine Japanese home. She is gracious and does her utmost to ensure the comfort of the guests. She went out of her way to make me delicious vegetarian dinners, though vegetarian is a very foreign term in Japan. The train is convenient
tto town. Check in time is 6PM the first day. After that you have a key to come and go as you please. If you get to Kyoto station early it's not too easy to find a large locker, but there are several places to look. I will use Hitami's hospitality again when in Kyoto
Hitomi is a natural hostess. I felt right at home along with 5 other guests. Dinner was family style. Hitomi made sure we all started at the same time with Japanese grace. It was a highlight of my tour of the country.
Especially liked the ease to get to her house from the train station although I did get lost by my own natural lack of sense of direction. Hitomi saved me by picking me up at the station not once but twice. The neighborhood is peaceful and pleasant.
The cleanliness of the bathroom upon arrival was subpar but it was improved later on.
Hitomi was like a Japanese mother to me who made wonderful food and provided a nice home. I will definitely stay again when I return to Kyoto.
