*Note: This is the listing for the Eastern facing, front guest room. For our western facing rear guest room in the same house, check it: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1636852
*Note 2: The second bed is a Twin Sized Raised Air Mattress.
This bathroom is shared with whomever is staying in the other guest room. If nobody, it's all yours! But you will have your own private half bathroom to yourself. Stepping back...
Bands, musicians, first time Airbnb'rs and late/last minute check-ins welcome! Just don't trash our home =)
Note: we have a lockbox so you can check in at anytime without disturbing anybody.
Hey new friend:
A private bedroom (optional air bed for third guest) with 1.5 bathrooms in a spacious 1920's craftsman-style house in Silver Lake (but they decided to stucco it in the 80s… we’re working on fixing that).
★ Original Hardwood Floors from 1924 + modern tile throughout the house (we take off our shoes indoors, just fyi).
★ Bands such as Blood Orange, Kindness, and Bomba Estéreo have stayed in this house.
★ House is west facing and equipped with 14 windows so there is plenty of light all day round.
★ Mattress and pillows have hypoallergenic, waterproof covers. Bed is a Queen size with Lucid brand memory foam mattress.
★ Extra guest: we will provide your 3rd person with a twin sized raised air bed and linens/blankets. Keep in mind that the room gets cramped when in this set up.
★ For added privacy, you room comes with your own key!
★ The room has hardwood floors, a small closet, lots of windows and black-out curtains.
★ The kitchen is huge and you’re free to use anything and everything to prepare your own food. Seriously, use anything you see.
★ The front yard is big, boasts a view of downtown LA and is perfect for lounging, smoking+drinking and checking out the local foot traffic. Lawn chairs provided.
★ Dog: we have a 5 year old, Jack Russell/Mini Schnauzer named Odin. He’s more like a human than a dog (you’ll see when you spend some time with him). Every time we walk him outside, we wipe him down with baby wipes to remove yuck from the outside.
★ You will get a half bathroom right next to your room which is entirely yours. The full bathroom is shared with whomever is staying in the guest bedroom (most likely another AirBnB'er). If there is nobody staying, then it's all yours too!
★ Parking: tons of street parking and there is a tandem spot in the back of the house for you (it's a little tight to get in though but we can help if need be).
★ 300 Mbps Down / 24 Mbps Up Wifi (YES THAT'S RIGHT!)
★ Sonos sound system with 2 speakers and aux in and out.
★ Zack runs an online video company and sometimes works from home. He makes pour-over coffee usually in the morning (please take some if you see a pot on the stove). He'll usually will stay out of your way but will chat you up if that's what you dig.
★ Melissa is usually crafting away at something and sometimes is out of the house. We’re both fun dorks, have lived in the bay area for 7 years, were born and raised in LA and get along with all crowds.
We live in a 3 block walking distance to:
☆Black Hogg (Innovative American Semi-Fusion)
☆Cafe Tropical (Heavy Breakfast Sammich and great coffee)
☆Local (locally sourced food with a always changing menu)
☆Pho Cafe (great Vietnamese soup–great for hangovers!
☆Las Glorias del Buen (healthy delicious Mexican)
☆Thirsty Crow (serious Whiskey Bar)
☆Diablo (unique twist on a Michelada and killer "urban" tacos)
☆Silverlake Lounge (standard dive bar)
☆Music Box Steps (staircase based on a 1932 film): (website hidden)_Music_Box
☆Los Globos (dancing until 4am most nights!)
☆The Stockroom (erotic leather goods and awesome showroom)
☆LA Metro's Vermont/Beverly Station (5 blocks)
20 minute walk from the oh-so-famous Sunset Junction (search it online)--home to trendy shops/eateries, typically what people call "hipsters", and overall good looking people. Beautiful neighborhood walks, Farmers Market on Tuesday and Saturdays, and good people watching.
Our most favorite local attraction is Echo Park Lake. Go and search images of it right now... gorgeous yes?! Melissa and I usually lounge there on the eastern grassy slope as we people watch and read+write. A very chill spot.
Interaction with Guests
Lastly, we know LA pretty well and know how to have fun on all budget levels. We’ll help you with travel plans and your day-to-day while you’re here. Otherwise, we’ll let you chill and will be chill.
See you soon?
The Big Stuff:
It’s a shoeless house so please take off your shoes. We wipe down Odin’s paws after he’s outside (he’s no exception either!)
Smoking: don’t smoke cigarettes in your room. Please go outside and close the wooden doors while you smoke. The front porch is the best place because of the view.
Locks: please lock doors when you leave/get into the house.
Close your room doors: although Odin is pretty awesomely house-trained, all that goes to shit (haha) if your door is open and you’re not there. He’s never in those rooms (unless if guests want to cuddle with him) so it’s like “outside” for him. Trust me, keep your doors closed.
Never let Odin outside unless you’re taking him on a walk with a leash (which is fine to do). The leash is hanging on the white cabinets. We typically wipe his feet after a walk, wipes are on the little table between the two sofa chairs.
Be human: Pick/clean up after yourself. We’re all adults… right? =)
Doors: The house is 1920’s old. The doors are too. We’re working on replacing them but until we do, please know that there is a way to quietly close them. We'll let you know.
Parking: Watch out because there is street cleaning Thursday and Friday. Read the signs to avoid getting a ticket.
Parking: If you park in the back of the house and are blocking our car, please leave your keys in the kitchen so we can move your car. Otherwise, I’m going to wake you up to move your car. I hate doing that =)
Kitchen Towels: we don't use paper towels, instead we have a bin of hand towels and a bin of towels for spills and yucky things. feel free to throw them away if need be.
Lights: If you’re the last people in the common area, please turn bright lights off. Christmas lights, the hallway light, black-lights and the oven light can stay on.
Garbage Disposal: we have one! the switch is hard to find. It’s under the sink, behind the right cabinet door, in the upper right.
Food storage: use all of the refrigerator and the racks on the left of the fridge. I try to make space for guests, but if I don’t, just push things aside. We’re chill.
House Music: I usually have music playing lightly throughout the house. Feel free to change it to whatever you like! Use the public computer to do this. You can do it through the Sonos App. Or you can download the app yourself.
Computer: Feel free to take it to your room and watch a movie. Just make sure the other guests aren’t going to do the same. If there is a monitor, go and take it too.
Juicer: if you wanted to juice yourself, please do so! Just check in with me first. There are a few things that could go wrong.
Amazing place with great hosts. Music was playing when we walked in...coffee was on the stove when we woke up. Wish I had booked for two nights!
Fantastic hosts - warm, friendly, and knowledgeable. The house was very pretty with plenty of seating, lots of light, and a nice breeze. The bed was comfortable - slept like a log! Would definitely stay again.
Good Feedback and were easy to contact room was private and we were accommodated well. It's a shared house really but there is a small lock on the door to the room. Overall it's a fun place that could be great and has a fun hostel sort of feel with a nice living room.
My fiancé and I stayed in a room hosted by Zack and Mel - and it absolutely lived up to our expectations.
The room was clean, all supplies promised was in order, and in general the pictures represent the place very well.
The mattress in the bed is pretty hard, which was perfect for my fiancé, who has back-issues.
Our hosts was very friendly and talkative - I'm glad we got to meet them:-) But even without meeting them, I'm pretty sure, by staying with these guys, if reading their extremely thorough guides to both house and neighborhood, you could get a stay filled with authentic experiences.
Though - when my fiancé went running in the morning, he didn't bumb into Ryan Gosling, as expected...ha ha ;-)
But thank you for a very nice stay anyway, Zack and Mel:-)
If you're looking for a clean, sweet-smelling, quiet place to stay in LA, then Mel+Zack is the place to stay!
After unsuccessfully booking with three other airbnb hosts, Mel+Zack saved the day with their instant book option!
Their place is definitely my top choice to stay while in LA with it's close proximity to Dowtown, the beach, and neighboring universities.
Also, their pups are so adorable and friendly as ever!
The room is clean. Zack & Mel are very nice. The guide they give is in detail. It's a pleasant experience.

Zack Z. very much enjoys the arts–music especially. On the off time he (tries) to play guitar and puts his six years of choir and music theory into use. Aside from working online in the perpetually changing internet scene, Zack also works closely with his wife on artistic projects that will hopefully be the foundation of their traveling dreams together.
Melissa M. is the epitome of hip and fresh. A printmaker at heart, she thrives on the tactile that is paper. Together with this love of paper, and skills attained, she creates handmade artists books, prints, and stationery that evoke a thoughtful cuteness.
Mel and Zack are a unique couple: met in high school, best friends for years, sharers of tragedy and fun times, singers of many a song, married immediately and always working on a mystery since then.
The ultimate goal for them (and most 9 to 5'ers) is to make a living off doing what they both love.
They hope to travel the world for extended periods of time and spread joy the only way they know how: funky dancing, loud singing, nonstop comedy and making pretty things.
Check them all out here: https://www.airbnb.com/s?host_id=148358
They are mostly all in the hippest part of Los Angeles, a place called Silver Lake (Northeast of Downtown). Homeplace of Beck, Elliot Smith, moustaches, The Silver Lake Reservoir, and heck, that dork pretty boy Ryan Gosling lives here too.
We've had the chance to meet and host the following artists and bands: Tame Impala, Blood Orange, Kate Nash, Slow Magic, Lemaitre, The Stooges, Digitalism, Tanlines, Cathedrals and more to come.
Some properties are owned by us but a few are also managed by us. Don't be surprised if we introduce you to a bff or a second mother of ours =)
