Elegant luxury home on 20 landscaped acres overlooking the Hamakua Coast with spectacular ocean views. New home was modeled after a plantation manager's mansion from the sugar heydays. Two streams, fruit trees and your own private little waterfall. Fully furnished, including linens, washer/dryer, and all the kitchen amenities you need to prepare your gourmet meals. Very private: no buildings to block your view of the ocean, no city lights, no traffic noise, no neighbors in sight - yet only 15 minutes from downtown Hilo and the airport. Stunning views in all directions from every room, and the wrap-around lanai overlooks the sweeping valley and ocean below.
There are 4 large bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, and 10 people can comfortably be accommodated. The master bedroom contains a king size bed. The Pua bedroom contains a queen size bed. The Wailele bedroom contains a full size bed. The studio bedroom is the largest and it contains a bunk with a twin on top and full on the bottom, and a futon-bed in addition.

When you rent the Kapehu Retreat House you don't share it with anyone. You get the washer/dryer, carport, hot tub, all 4 bedrooms, everything - all to yourselves. There is another house on the 20 acres, a 1-bedroom cottage that is also a vacation rental, but it's on the other side of a creek and ravine and one-tenth of a mile away from the Kapehu house, so you won't disturb the people in it and they won't disturb you.
You can pick the various fruit growing on the property and pet our friendly goats.
Interaction with Guests
Our property manager, Kealani, will check you in and be available by phone if you need anything during your stay. Kealani is a true "kanaka maoli," a native Hawaiian, and if you ask her, she can teach you the language or the hula or how to make leis out of leaves and flowers on the property.
It's utterly quiet. You can see a glimpse of a rooftop in your distant view, but there are no neighbors in sight.
You'll need a rental car to get around the Big Island. The bus system is sketchy at best. We'll email you precise driving directions to the property from both Big Island airports.
Other Things to Note
The location is ideal for its closeness to all the natural wonders on the island. The volcanoes national park with its live volcano is a short drive to the south. The most pristine snorkeling tide pools in Hawaii are a short drive to the south-east. All the stunning waterfalls and scenic canyons are along the Hamakua Coast to the north, with the closest one only 5 miles away. There are several gorgeous botanical gardens and zip lines within a few minutes drive, as well as several black sand beaches.
Greated by a waving, clapping Kealani in traditional dress, the scene was set for a wonderful stay. The property is as beautiful as the pictures suggest and ideally located to nearby sites including Volcano National Park (40ish min easy drive)
The home was immaculately presented with plenty of towels and a kitchen with all you could ask. Easy to grab supplies near the airport and head on up to relax on the amazing balcony. Everyone in our group loved our stay.
This house and property is so beautiful! It was the perfect location for our family vacation. Lots of room to comfortably accommodate large groups. Easy access to Hilo yet secluded enough to give a sense of privacy. The kitchen was excellent to cook home made meals in. Also a great location for stargazing!
