The ZzzzMoose Camping Cabins
Overlooking the ocean, the ZzzzMoose boasts insulated wooden Cabins with a shaded deck and picnic table. The Dancing Moose Cafe serving breakfast, lunch and baked goods is located next door. The property has a accessible (Rocky) beach, great for a campfire in the evening.
Uniquely built, all the units are equipped with high-end wood finishing and vinyl-covered mattresses. (1 double 2 single) They include a private 3-piece bathroom situated outside of the tent. Pillows are provided for each guest.
Bring your own bedding or sleeping bag or we can supply you with a linen package at $6.50 pp
The ZzzzMoose Camping Cabins are located on the North Shore of Cape Breton Island, 8 km south of Cape Smokey, between the Cape Breton Highlands National Park (25 km) and the town of Baddeck (65 km) on the Bras d'Or Lakes.
The North Shore, originally settled by Scots in the early 1800s, is now home to lots of moose, a crab and lobster fishery (May - July), as well as many fine artisans and crafters.
From the deck of the cabin you might see whales and seals, for sure ocean birds, and 'our' Bald Eagle who does a 'fly-by' a couple of times a day. Walk to our pebble beach and enjoy the beautiful view and sometimes-loud silence of the waves hitting the pebbles.
There are lots of hiking and snowshoeing trails in and outside the National Park, and if you like golf... Highland Links is a beautiful 25-minute drive away.
We are an all-season accommodation!
The Guests have access to our private (rock) beach. A perfect place to make a small camp fire in the evenings.
And off course access to The Dancing Moose cafe where we serve breakfast & lunch, home baked treats and on request we can provide simple but good evening meals.
Interaction with Guests
The ZzzzMoose Camping Cabins are part off and on the property of the Dancing Moose Cafe (3.7 acres with (rock) beach access). We the owners live under the Cafe and are "part of the property". The Cabins are build in a way that they have the most possible privacy.
We love to interact with our guests but that is totally up to the guests themselves.
There is no public transit on the Cabot trail.
Car or Bike are necessary to be able to "get around"
We have our own parking lot and parking is free.
Other Things to Note
The basic rate for the Cabins is $70.00 but we have to charge HST 15% that makes the total for 1 night, up to 4 people $80.50.
The Cabins are fully insulated and there is a small electrical stove in them that makes them nice an comfortable, even in harsh winter conditions.
Smoking is only allowed outside and we ask our guests to clean up the buts. (we have free range Chickens and they might eat those)
Our stay in the luxury camping Cabin was good overall, wonderful winter scenery! The only two things to mention are that the heating could have been turned on before we arrived there (was quite cold inside for a long time) and that there was no warm water (not even close to warm). It was nice anyway, and I would recommend a stay there, even in winter!
Thank you for your review and... so sorry just found out (think that caused it) that the breaker from the hot water heater had tripped after a power out earlier that week. Good lesson for me, always check after a power outages.
Normally we do put the heat on a few hours before check in (4.00 pm) that obviously did not happen... With the cold weather we have it takes a few hours for the cabins to get comfortable.
Once again our apologies but good to read that you did enjoy your stay, Next time... with hot water end heat (except in the summer).
A warm and welcoming place to stay after a drive through an early season blizzard. After arriving in light snow and in dark we were greeted with a warm and spotless cabin. The showers and toilets were spotless and the beds very comfortable. The biggest surprise though was when we woke up in the morning to see the sun rising over the ocean with the snowy mountains in the background. Unfortunately we had to leave soon after taking a walk on the stunning beach but I would definitely stay there again (and hopefully in better weather!)
Wonderfully cozy cabin for some cool October nights. Very clean and private. We wish we had another day to just relax and listen to the surf. The Dutch pancakes Ton makes are amazing!
We had a very nice stay in one of the camping cabins. Very clean and spacious. Gorgeous view in the morning ;-) Would definitely recommend this place!
Ton was a very welcoming host. The cabins were beautiful and cozy. The private washrooms were very clean and convenient even though detached. Waking up on the ocean was wonderful and breakfast was delicious! I would definitely recommend Tons cabin to anyone exploring Cape Breton. Great experience!
Our stay was lovely. The cabins are new, spotless, and warm. The Dancing Moose cafe, also on the property, was very nice as well. We arrived on a cold and rainy evening and so only saw the beach very briefly, but on a warm summery night the beach would be awesome. We got a bit of a hostel vibe from the place, which we liked. Ton and Yvonne were very welcoming and accommodating.
The only thing I'd mention is that this place is not actually located in the town of Ingonish Beach - it's a solid 30+ minute drive from the east entrance of the national park.
Hi Stephany and Ruby, Thank you for the nice review and yes you are right The Cafe and Cabins are not in Ingonisch Beach but that is the closed place that I can put in the listing that Air BnB recognizes. There is no option to enter the actual community name ( Birch Plain) and that is (a beautiful ) 25 to 30 minute drive south from Ingonish Beach, also the national park entrance.
But now you know where we are and your more than welcome to come back, with nicer weather and enjoy the beach, make a nice fire and watch the stars!
