Cozy top floor in traditional Norwegian farmhouse

Private room in house hosted by Brandy
4 guests2 bedrooms2 beds1 shared bath
Welcome to our home, a small but traditional and cozy Norwegian farmhouse from 1926, with lots of character!

The space
The house is ideal for those visiting Stavanger and Sandnes, and for those visiting Preikestolen, Dalsnuten and other camping/hiking locations. It is also one of the best locations for those connecting to the ferry.

The house has a lot of history, and most of the house maintains its original characteristics from 1926. It's therefore also an ideal place for those who would like to experience a traditional Norwegian home or just stay in a home that's just a little bit special. :)

The house is especially ideal for couples or small groups of travelers, and could work well for a pair with a small baby. The house could work for larger groups also, providing the extra guests do not mind sleeping in the living room.

Guest access
Our listing is more than just a room in a shared space. The house is over 3 floors. The 1st/bottom/basement floor is a separate apartment where we stay while we welcome you! You have the 3rd floor bedrooms private (including one outside balcony which is ideal for smokers). The bathroom is on the 3rd floor and is shared with us . The 2nd / middle floor is a common living room and kitchen area, shared with us. The entrance on the 2nd/middle floor is also shared.

There is ample parking space exclusively for you.

You are welcome to help yourself to coffee and tea.

Other things to note
The house is ideal for smokers, as there is not only terrace space on the first floor, but an outside balcony on the top floor is easily accessible from your bedroom. (Please we kindly ask that you do not smoke inside).

There are numerous walking trails right around the house that we will be happy to give you directions for.

Because of the Norwegian tax laws and because it's an old house, we do not have a TV. Instead, we have a "home theater" setup in the living room with a projector and a screen that hooks up to the laptop. We would be more than happy to show you how to connect!

The house is historic and is therefore not as easy to keep internal heat as more modern accommodations. The common areas are heated by heating cables in the floor and a heating pump, and your bedroom is heated by a space heater. Typically when these are on, the heat situation is not a problem at all, but if you leave for the day and turn off the space heater for example, please expect it to be a bit chilly in the room when you return until it has been running for approximately 10-15 minutes and gets heated up again. :)

The neighborhood is a family neighborhood with children. The area around the house is very green, and the neighborhood is peaceful. It is central, but still has a feeling of being removed from the noise of the city center.

We are also very lucky that the local grocery store, the Rema 1000, is only a 4 minutes' walk from the house (we can see it from our living room window).

There are a number of wonderful walking trails right behind the house.

During your stay
We like to do our very best to respect our guests' privacy. We will be staying in the basement apartment, and will leave our guests to themselves for the most part. If however you are wondering anything at all, either about the house or the area, or would like some recommendations on the nearby hiking trails, or simply what to buy in the local grocery store, it's just to come around and knock on our door. :)

However, for those who are more socially inclined, we would add: when we travel we really like to interact with the locals in the country we're in, and are always happy to interact with our guests in the same way. My husband Bjarne is a Stavanger native and is always happy to show a curious tourist more about his home. We have in the past had guests ask us to be their tour guide around town, to show them a night out like a local, or to show them how to make traditional Norwegian cuisine. We are more than happy to do this when we are free and available. (Please note however that in the past we have tended to charge a small fee to cover resources such as gas for transportation, ingredients for cooking, or if tour guiding, a small fee for our time). Please do not hesitate to ask us if you are looking for a more "authentic" Norwegian experience. :)
