The coffee farm residence does not disappoint. It is every bit as lovely as the pictures, and is situated on a lush hillside with a spectacular view of Kona and the ocean. Just a short drive to downtown Kona, and a wonderful place to simply relax and enjoy the surroundings. We stayed for a week, touring the island on most days, and found this to be the ideal home base. Very well equipped with everything from beach gear to a fully-utensiled kitchen. The bedrooms are spacious and well-separated, and each has its own private bath, so it's very easy for a family to live comfortably here. We also found that the altitude resulted in a ideal temperature while we were there (mid-April), with cool nights for sleeping and warm sunlight hours. Great views in all directions. It was so nice to be surrounded by foliage and coffee plantations, rather than side-by-side with condos. It was evident that much personal thought and work had gone toward making this house great, and it was fun to share in the results. Thanks, Al, for a great stay. We'd love to come back.
The reservation was canceled 7 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Staying with Albert was amazing! The house and the view were absolutely beautiful!. Everything that we could possibly need - including beach towels, folding chairs, coolers (or eskys as we say in Australia) etc - were provided and everything was very clean and well looked after. We loved exploring the surrounding area and buying lots of coffee! Thanks for a lovely stay Albert - we were sad to go and hope to come back one day.
We stayed at Al's home and had a wonderful time. The place was fully stocked with amenities and extra hawaii based things such at extra beach towels, snorkel gear, boogie boards and had a collection of spices and cooking oils there already.
I was challenging to get to because it is up on the mountain and the driveway is very tricky...but if you arrive when there is light out...you should be able to find it. If you arrive in the dark...you could have trouble. Be sure you have great directions (and a map)! GPS didn't work all that well when we looked for it the first time.
I would suggest staying here if you want to kick back and relax and save money on dining out. Go down and get some fresh fish at Sack & Save and cook your own meals and use the blender in the house to make some Margarita's.
It has a great view of the ocean, but it is a little ways away from the beach. It doesn't take long, but it definitely isn't a beach front property.
It has 2 big bedrooms, so it is ideal for 4 people or 2 couples. The living room couch folds down into a bed...so you could have a 3rd couple with ease.
Overall: Great value and Great View.
As another reviewer has said "The minute we stepped out of our car and saw the house, we were impressed with the amazing view and the beautiful grounds that surround the house" We had a great time using this house as our base. Being higher up the mountain we had easy access to the highway going to the north and south of the island. The views are amazing and having a BBQ on the deck overlooking Kona was a nice bonus. The house was well stocked, and we had a lot of room for a family of four.
We would definetly stay here again
We arrived at Ocean View late at night and completely exhausted from nearly 24 hours of travel from east of the Mississippi. While it was a bit difficult to negotiate the narrow and very dark road leading to the home it was every bit worth the trouble! Ocean View coffee farm is a slice of paradise with a killer view off of the back deck...we couldn't see it upon arrival but, the next morning (while drinking our complimentary Kona coffee!) we enjoyed the deck, the mild breezes and a panorama that included wild turkeys, coffee trees, orange trees, the town below, lava fields beyond and the wide blue Pacific. The home is delightful, beautifully appointed with a Japanese decorating style, well equipped kitchens and baths, fluffy towels and comfortable beds. We did have some trouble with the television remote but, no big deal. This home is located about 20 minutes from the center of Kona town, it is up, up, up some long and winding roads. We found the location to be ideal for peace and quiet but, if you're interested in being "in the mix" or walking distance to the restaurants and shops this is not the place for you. My only complaint about the location was that there is absolutely nowhere safe for walking/running...as someone who exercises almost daily I found myself sneaking onto the neighboring coffee plantation just to get a bit of cardio going up and down the paved paths. Walking along the road is just too dangerous as it's very windy and narrow with almost no berm. That is the only reason i didn't give 5 stars!
