My cottage is a great location to go for a long walk or run, visit the local parks and sites or head out and visit the surrounding areas and know you can come home to peace and tranquility, cook a nice meal and relax on either of the peaceful porches
This is a wonderful country cottage that is conveniently located in the middle of all of Virginia's Historic Colonial area. 50 miles to Virginia Beach 40 to the capital city of Richmond and all of it's rich culture. Busch Gardens, Colonial Williamsburg, The College of William and Mary, Yorktown and Jamestown are all within a very easy 30 minute drive of the house giving you the opportunity to do and see everything you would want while in the area. The house was built in the 1940's and has been completely redone. It has full front and back porches with seating on both to be able to relax and enjoy your cup of coffee in the morning and a glass of wine at the end of the day. A washer and dryer and full use of the kitchen. There is just one bathroom but it has shower and a tub. One bedroom with ceiling fan and living room. with TV (currently just antenna and Roku and WII) The location is very quiet with a large yard and a fire pit to enjoy. On occasion an additional bedroom is available if traveling with one to two children. An active and retired military discount of 10% is available with proof.
This a great location for biking with multiple quiet country roads that interconnect. There are many biking events and races in the area. I am also centrally located to all of the great fishing in the area. 20 minutes from the York, Mattaponi, and Pamunkey salt waterways and 20 minutes to launch into the Chickahominy River or Lake fresh water where many a 50 pound catfish has been caught. I have plenty of room for boat parking in the yard.
You will have access to the whole home. Cook if you like, sit on the porch, watch the Roku, whatever makes you happy.
Interaction with Guests
I like to meet my quests when they arrive and if time allows I very much enjoy sharing a meal but I also am quiet and private and there is enough space in the house to be able to have that as well.
Other Things to Note
48 hour notice needed on reservation requests.
I expect respect and courtesy and manners. No smoking indoors. Lights out when not in the room. Towels hung up if wet. Dishes washed or put in dishwasher and things left as they were found. There is a land line if your cell service does not work in the area that I don't mind you using and the internet is wireless and accessible.
The host, Alaina, was very welcoming. The accommodations worked out for 4 guests, as Alaina was not there. There is one bathroom, small bedrooms and a small common area - all great for a foursome or two guests, but lacking in privacy were the host to be at home. The kitchen was available to use. This home was convenient to our destination, Williamsburg.
What a charming country home in a lovely setting! We absolutely loved the coziness of this house, and the rural setting was just beautiful at this time of year. Alaina was not there when we arrived, but she immediately made us feel welcome through several phone calls and texts before we arrived and during our stay. She was quite accommodating, and we would be thrilled to book her lovely home again in the future.
For germans in the US ... this was the best experience we ever could make. Alaina was a great host and she took care of us so nicely. Even our 3 year old boy wanted to play with her after a while not understanding what she was saying ;-) Hands and feets were used and it worked. The location itself is situated in a beautiful wooden area not far away of the historic triangle. Best to start all trips. Alaina, thanks for having such a great time and we enjoyed your location very much!
Alaina was a great host! We only stayed for 2 nights but she made us feel really at home. She asked us to join her for a meal on the night we arrived and produced a terrific home cooked feast, which was shared with good conversation. Her home is rural yet very convenient for the Historic triangle of Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown. We would recommend her as a host. Thanks Alaina.
We had a wonderful time at Alaina's country cottage. It was close enough to Williamsburg and Jamestown to satisfy all our tourist desires. And at the same time, it was in the country which gave us a different perspective. The quiet at night was a peaceful change from our regular lives.
The cottage itself is so nice and homey. And Alaina was a great host -- warm and welcoming.
Don't let the adorable country cottage exterior fool you. Inside it's surprisingly spacious and casually elegant home that can sleep six very comfortably. The pictures don't do it justice. Alaina is a wonderful hostess, who greeted us with a bottle of wine and the most amazing baked apple bars I've ever had in my life. Her long career in the hospitality and restaurant industry shows again when she makes sure you have everything you need for a big pancake breakfast for the whole family. In addition to a spotless and well appointed kitchen, cozy living room with space for curling up to read or watch Netflix, and sitting porch, there are three bedrooms with comfy beds, so nobody has to play rock paper scissors to see who gets stuck with a sofa bed. And her proximity to colonial Williamsburg makes this the perfect place to start your adventure off right. This is the place you'll look forward to coming "home" to when you're ready to return to the comforts of the 21st century. Inviting and relaxing, Alaina's is just the sort of place that Airbnb was created to help you find.
I am a newly single woman and the mother of three grown children all of whom live in the area. From the Mid West I have been here in Virginia for 20+ years and am counting down the days until I am able to head West again! I have been in the restaurant business throughout my life and love food so if you choose to stay here with me chances are I will whip up something for you to enjoy. I love to travel and see knew places and meet new people. I have adopted the idea of "Daring Greatly" the wonderful book by Bren Brown that really elaborates on the brilliance of our parents when they used to tell us "you never know if you don't try". This has motivated me to try something new every day. I like to have people with me in my home, I like to be outside on one of my wonderful porches listening to nothing at all and I love music.
