Just a little over an hour away from Cartagena, this is the perfect getaway for friends, families or a romantic couple of days in the caribbean.
On the caribbean peninsula of Baru - punta Baru - this house is surrounded by beach and palmtrees, neighbours being away at least 50m for the right amount of peace and quiet to rest and relax.
Wake Up to a beautiful view of the ocean and the nearby Rosario Islands.
Enjoy the 80 meters of private beach to explore the caribbean ocean or take a stroll on the beach. Buy fresh fish from local fishermen every morning.
Use the ocean kayak to paddle up and down past the other houses.
Rent a boat and explore the nearby villages and islands including the famous Rosario Islands.
How to get there?
There are 2 ways of getting there, we can help you to arrange each.
In both cases our house manager will help you to go shopping and then accompany you to the house with your transport of choice, be aware that you will need to pay for his transport.
1) a private boat, which will cost around 300USD one way for up to 8 people
2) Take a shared boat for about 35USD per person one way including baggage.
(you will also have to compensate our house manager for his transport costs)
What you should know
The house is remote and therefore its advised to bring all food stuff with you which you would like to consume plus some for the maid and the house manager. Be sure to bring enough Water and everything else you would like to eat and drink. In Baru you can buy groceries, but they are much more expensive and of lesser quality than in Cartagena.
Included in the price on AirBnB is the house and its facilities. The maid service costs 20USD per day for up to 4 people, more than that will require two maids for 40USD per day.
You can also get an extra boat for about 50USD per day plus fuel costs.
Sometimes in the area you might get people trying to overcharge you, try to inform yourself about prices in the region and don’t be afraid to negotiate. Ask the house manager for help anytime.
Please ask for prices locally to prevent overpaying.
Respect the natural surroundings, its too beautiful to spoil, you'll know what I mean when you're there.
On site we also have an ocean kayak you can use , please take care of all the things.
Interaction with Guests
The local staff will make your stay nice and smooth.
You can communicate with them in Spanish, try to have a dictionary on site for that.
Its beautifully off-grid with just a few houses around it and very quiet and off the beaten path.
You will enjoy it, do go for a walk or take the boat to visit some of the nearby islands.
Transport is only possible via bus to baru and then boat, or by boat to baru.
You can also walk to Baru through a canal.
Other Things to Note
Please do keep in mind that markups are often tried for tourists, so inform yourself about prices and always pay upfront, don't let bills pile up.
Other than that, relax and enjoy.
Rules are simple:
This is a natural and quiet surrounding, keep the environment clean, use the provided bins. Don't engage in any illegal behavior.
Whatever we can help you with just ask us or our staff on site.
Our group of 7 had an excellent stay at the Beach House in Baru! We only stayed one night but the private transportation organized through Manuel (house caretaker) was efficient and easy. The house is remote and rustic, but a welcomed retreat from the hustle of Cartagena. I would recommend this house for anyone looking to have their own beach and private sunsets!
Looking for the ultimate beach getaway to change up the pace from city life? Stay here. Yatan's awesome to work with and will make your stay easy and worthwhile. Amazing place. Amazing host. Viva Colombia!
An amazing week of total escapism. The beach house is definitely rustic but if you go with the flow and just relax you'll have a brilliant time that's like no other holiday experience!
A truly "out of this world" place to go. Great hosts and fantastic experience.
Our five-person group had a wonderful stay at this house. The pictures do not do it justice. It is a beautiful house with a stretch of private beach looking West, so you have a beautiful sunset every evening. We spent three days swimming, reading, playing cards, napping in hammocks and eating.
Definitely be sure to bring enough food, but the cook provided us with a grocery list before we went and that was plenty. The cook, Lena, made lots of delicious Colombian food. We were always full. We did end up having to supplement our water, so calculate out enough of that for everyone. Lena will also make fresh juices every day.
The house is three bedrooms. When we were there, one had a king size bed, one a queen and one two twins, but I think it can vary. There is no hot water, but it is warm enough there that you don't need it. It is a rustic setup but it was perfect for our purposes -- relaxing, getting away from TV and internet.
The boat ride to the house was pretty intense. I don't think it is always like that, but it was very bumpy and wet, so be prepared. Our boat ride back to Cartagena was much calmer and a beautiful last look at Baru.
If you go immediately there may be three puppies at the house. That was an unexpected and wonderful bonus!
I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone, and if I have another chance would certainly return.
Wow, so much to tell with this one. The house and beach are exactly as others have described... insanely beautiful and remote. Andres and his wife Lena were very helpful, but they do not speak any English, so I highly recommend that you're able to at least speak intermediate Spanish. Yatan's father was also available over the phone when we had questions.
Lena's cooking is as others have said... unbelievably good. But expect to pay for both your food and for Lena's family. We paid about $25-$30 for a single meal of fish. Way more than we expected.
One tip that I think should definitely be in the house listing, but is not:
-- Travel to/from the house: BEWARE HIDDEN COSTS. We expected to pay $20/person to get to the house. However, we ended up spending $90. This was never explained to us, except that we had to pay for Andres to come to Cartagena to pick us up, but also for him to go with us. The rest of the charges I think came from having luggage, but no one ever told me exactly. Also, when we got there, we were disturbed by a man who claimed to be Lena's son, but wasn't. He wouldn't leave until we bought some of his jewelry. The trip is also quite painful. We sat in a public boat for 3 hours in the heat before it left. We hated it so much that we took motorbikes, a ferry and a taxi back-- which was less arduous than the public boat.
Besides there being a lot of hidden costs we didn't expect to pay, the trip was still quite enjoyable. Don't expect to be in a 5-star hotel with hot water (there is none), but expect to enjoy living in a supremely remote location, disconnected from the world.
Amazing stay! The house appears where you wouldn't even dream it would be and offers a very relaxing moment. If you're heading to Cartagena, indulge yourself a few nights there you won't regret it.
