Mon avion n'a pas pu atterrir,... ce n'était pas de leur faute, mais j’espérais un rabais... Ils m'ont fait payer l'intégralité. What a lovely and amazing place to stay with such wonderful hosts in Lou and Annie. We loved everything about our stay especially the hospitality shown to us. The loft in the studio was very cosy, clean and welcoming. It was great sitting on the deck having our breakfast including eggs from the 'girls'! Lou was very helpful in giving us ideas on places to go and we just about managed to fit them all in. The walk across the dunes was especially memorable. We'd definitely recommend a stay to anyone visiting this area and we'd love stay again when we're back over this way. Thanks so much to you both. John and Jan
Lou is a warm and thoughtful host, helping us with our bags and bringing a wonderful breakfast in the morning. The Art Loft is magical, filled with all kinds of creative objects. The quilts, the weavings, the paintings—everything comes with a story, made by someone with love. It's something rare to see these days—most bed & breakfast inns have stuff that look the part from afar, but once you feel and touch, it's just a modern fabrication. Here, you get the real thing. And the freshly-laid hard-boiled eggs in the morning—you can't beat that!
As a few others noted, you should be aware that you have to use a compost toilet. It's way better than a port-a-potty, and much better than I anticipated. But it's better to come mentally prepared than be taken by surprise, like I was, as I didn't pay enough attention to the reviews and it's not obvious in the description! Also, note that the shower water drains into the garden, so you have to limit your shower time so as not to flood the place. And wifi is spotty inside the loft—you'll have to be in the garden closer to the main house to get wifi access. All good practices to encourage you to stay in the present and live in harmony with the earth, I guess! If you embrace these quirks with an open mind, you'll be rewarded with a truly one-of-a-kind enchanted stay.
My mom, sister, and I stayed at Lou and Annie's Art Studio Loft over Cal Poly Parents Weekend and had an absolutely fantastic experience. Although the stay was brief, the hospitality we encountered from our hostesses definitely made us wish we could stay longer. The Loft was neat and clean and the perfect place to cozy up after a day spent hiking and at the beach. I know my family looks forward to visiting the area again and staying here !
what a beautiful place to escape from the everyday: animals, fresh eggs from "the girls" every morning, tips on the local scene, comfortable beds, close proximity to the pacific, a sitting porch and not one of the distractions from home. lou went above and beyond in hosting two best friends on a mission, while annie worked intently on her art for an upcoming show in the background. if there was anything i could have wished for, it would be more time to stay.
We only stayed 1 night in the art loft, and I'd have to say that that bed is one of the comfiest I have ever experienced. So many blankets and (likely) handmade quilts - you'll just sort of sink in and wake up to the sound of snorting horses and clucking chickens. Luckily, we were able to enjoy some farm-fresh eggs and a nice breakfast and coffee in the morning before running off to Hearst Castle (no more than 90 minutes away) and continuing through to Big Sur.
One thing that I think should be highlighted in the description is the composting toilet. I don't know that it's my cup of tea, but i get the environmentalism behind it. Just look if up if you don't know what it is (I didn't) and don't end up a little surprised.
Lou was a great host ensuring I was comfortable and taken care of. I would suggest this B&B to anyone! It is a beautiful drive to their house and cozy space! Lou knows the area well and has tons of information of where to go and what to do!
Excellent hospitality in very cozy accommodations!
Our stay in Annie & Lou's Yurt was short but very sweet! The garden is filled with beautiful and unusual ornaments. A smile around every corner. Our little boy loved the horses and chickens. It was so nice to wake up to the little snorts and clucks of the 'farm' :-)
Lou was super welcoming. Allowing us to choose between the Yurt and the Art Loft as both were free that night. We opted for the yurt simply because it was easier with our little boy. But we'd have been delighted to stay in either. Everything is spotless. The bedlinen and towels are excellent quality and the bathroom is warm and very comfortable despite being across the garden.
Breakfast was delicious and although we didn't meet Annie, or spend a great deal of time with Lou, we felt very welcome and at home.
Thanks Lou and Annie!
Great place, excellent host! Thanks Lou for sharing this magical place we truly enjoyed our stay and the animals. We felt very safe and comfortable. The bed was great and the visit to the sand dunes was awesome. The shower pressure was excellent and the compost toilet was a great experience. Thanks to this I will now have to try Glamping. We really loved your place! The breakfast was awesome just what we needed for our drive to LA. Host communication was excellent, relevant and concise. Highly recommend staying here to friends and family.
