West University is a historic neighborhood in Tucson. By Arizona standards, the homes and architecture are old (phone number hidden)). The casita was once the carriage house for our home, built in 1918. Later it became a mechanics garage, and was turned into a guest house in 1975 or so. We completed a remodel in 2013.
West University is characterized by students living side by side with professors and other university staff as well as those how have been lured into the emerging urban lifestyle spurred by the revitalization of downtown Tucson the the new Modern Streetcar, coming Spring 2014.
It's a lively neighborhood, with a young spirit, but a maturity of homes and trees that make it a unique Tucson neighborhood.
A bus stop is conveniently located just a block away. The Modern Street Car stops just 2 blocks away in front of Time Market, an eatery featuring wood fired pizza, fantastic sandwiches, produce, some kitchen staples, a wine, beer and coffee bar, and freshly made bakery products. It's a find place to begin or end your day.
If you plan to venture to the desert or mountains, a car would be advisable.

Wow, this guesthouse is amazing. Tastefully decorated including original art, it's centrally located in a quiet downtown Tucson neighborhood. The beds are exquisitely comfortable. We especially enjoyed the large and enchanting garden. The hosts are kind, friendly and knowledgable but never intrusive. Looking forward to a return visit!
We had a fantastic stay at Peter and Jeff's Casita. Everything was very comfortable and we had everything that we needed. This is a fantastic location and the hosts were very helpful!
Our experience at Peter's Urban Oasis Guesthouse was perfect.
Peter is an excellent host, going above and beyond what we would expect. Check in was a breeze. The house is beautiful, the beds very comfortable. He even had snacks, fruit, beers, breakfast in the house for us. We didn't get to see Peter very much because we were busy every day but he was very friendly and very helpful, giving great suggestions for restaurants etc. I have to recommend this place if you are visiting Tucson! Thank you Peter!
This place looks better than described or pictured. It's lovely. Beautiful view out to the garden. Hosts were very accommodating. The place is very pretty very nice. It's a really good location access to the modern trolley and to the speedway which gets you everywhere you want to see. And Peter made good recommendations for restaurants. It's really terrific.
We loved the location, easy access to our travels by car, foot and public street car, which we enjoyed using. We appreciated having some starter food - coincidentally and much appreciated, cereal and tea selection was as if we requested those exact selections in advance. We also appreciated the off-street parking. Yes, the airbnb photos matched what we found... Delightful visit!
The Casita was perfect! Peter & Jeff were great hosts. From walking in and having a bottle of wine to the beautiful fresh flowers, the stay here was perfect. The beds were very comfortable and the living area was perfect. The guest house was impeccably clean and had everything we could have possibly needed. The location is right in the middle of everything! Cannot wait to come back to Tucson and stay here!
Peter was a great host, helping even before we arrived with suggestions for a birthday dinner for me the day we were to arrive in Tucson. We were welcomed with a hug from Peter, a birthday card, a bottle of wine, fresh fruit on the counter, goodies in the fridge and even a decorated Christmas Tree. The Urban Oasis Garden Guesthouse really felt like home, with comfy beds and luxurious sheets too. We look forward to staying here for our next visit to Tucson.
Peter is a native of Arizona, and Jeff migrated here from NYC by way of 35 years in Ontario, Canada. Jeff is a professional artist and much of the work on display in the casita is his. Peter has a day job, but in his spare time, he enjoys throwing pots in the clay studio.
We have three dogs who are very well socialized and always enjoy a good scratch behind the ears.
