West University is a historic neighborhood in Tucson. By Arizona standards, the homes and architecture are old (phone number hidden)). The casita was once the carriage house for our home, built in 1918. Later it became a mechanics garage, and was turned into a guest house in 1975 or so. We completed a remodel in 2013.
West University is characterized by students living side by side with professors and other university staff as well as those how have been lured into the emerging urban lifestyle spurred by the revitalization of downtown Tucson the the new Modern Streetcar, coming Spring 2014.
It's a lively neighborhood, with a young spirit, but a maturity of homes and trees that make it a unique Tucson neighborhood.
A bus stop is conveniently located just a block away. The Modern Street Car stops just 2 blocks away in front of Time Market, an eatery featuring wood fired pizza, fantastic sandwiches, produce, some kitchen staples, a wine, beer and coffee bar, and freshly made bakery products. It's a find place to begin or end your day.
If you plan to venture to the desert or mountains, a car would be advisable.

Super place in a great neighborhood. Hosts were very accommodating and proud to share their lovely property.
Loved our stay at the casita in Tucson. The apt was lovely and the location wAs great. And the hosts couldn't be better! Our apt was stocked with food and wine and beautiful flowers! The outdoor space around the casita, which is shared with owners, is a beautiful shady respite from desert sun. We would definitely come back to this great place.
We stayed at the Urban Oasis Guest house for a week in late April and it was a great experience. The gardens are beautiful and relaxing. The photos and description online are very accurate. The location is very well situated next to the University and within walking distance of downtown. Peter and Jeff are great hosts.
This is our second time at this private desert oasis. The well kept, clean casita is well stocked. Both times they had fresh flowers as well as fruit, coffee and breakfast goodies waiting for us. We even commented we were thinking of buying a candle for the patio table and the next day one showed up with lighter.
Peter and Jeff are wonderful hosts. They show you the ropes and leave you to relax and enjoy their spacious and well-appointed guesthouse. It couldn't be more pleasant. The location is a big plus as it is an easy walk to the university and the downtown areas. Lots of restaurants and watering holes all along the way. We had a great time staying in the casita.
Wow, this guesthouse is amazing. Tastefully decorated including original art, it's centrally located in a quiet downtown Tucson neighborhood. The beds are exquisitely comfortable. We especially enjoyed the large and enchanting garden. The hosts are kind, friendly and knowledgable but never intrusive. Looking forward to a return visit!
We had a fantastic stay at Peter and Jeff's Casita. Everything was very comfortable and we had everything that we needed. This is a fantastic location and the hosts were very helpful!
About the Host, Peter
Peter is a native of Arizona, and Jeff migrated here from NYC by way of 35 years in Ontario, Canada. Jeff is a professional artist and much of the work on display in the casita is his. Peter has a day job, but in his spare time, he enjoys throwing pots in the clay studio.
We have three dogs who are very well socialized and always enjoy a good scratch behind the ears.
