The Space

This 900 square foot guesthouse is located in the historic neighborhood of West University. It features two comfortable bedrooms, each with a quality queen bed and luxury bedding, one bathroom, a fully functioning kitchen, full size washer and dryer, and a large and comfortable living room. Even though the casita is exceptionally comfortable, you'll be tempted to linger in the beautiful and lush garden. Off street parking accommodates two cars. PLEASE NOTE: The "Street View" that shows here, is NOT a view of our street. The neighborhood is historic and charming, though you wouldn't know it to look at what is represented here. I've discussed this issue with Airbnb, but because the feed is provided by (website hidden), and security concerns, there is nothing that Airbnb can do to solve this conundrum.

The house a full kitchen with dishwasher as well as a barbecue grill on the porch. The HD flatscreen TV serves cable TV and HBO, or you can stream content from Netflix or Hulu Plus through the BluRay DVD player. WiFi is available throughout the property, so you can answer your email while enjoying coffee in the garden.

For long term guests, expect bi-weekly housekeeping and a change of linens each week, clean towels are provided twice weekly.

This comfortable pad is located just three blocks from the University of Arizona and walking distance to more than 100 restaurants and bars. If you don't feel like the stroll, use the modern streetcar (coming late spring 2014) to get to where you want to go. It stops just two blocks away. Take it up 4th Ave through downtown, or go the other way through the university and on to University Medical Center. Cultural events are easily accessed by foot or light rail, too. Enjoy five venues presenting live theatre (including Arizona Theatre Company, and the Rogue Theatre), Tucson Symphony Orchestra, Arizona Opera, and UA Presents at Centennial Hall, as well as student productions of dance, theatre, and music.

This really is an urban oasis.

Guest Access

Our guests are welcome to enjoy the garden and the various areas within it. There are two outdoor dining areas, and a barbecue awaits outdoor grilling just outside the door to the casita.

Interaction with Guests

We are happy to share our recommendations for our favorite nightspots and eateries. We are also happy to make reservations for you. Some folks enjoy hanging out in the patio, while other are more private. Either way, it's up to you. If we're not sure what you'd like, we'll ask.

The Neighborhood

West University is a historic neighborhood in Tucson. By Arizona standards, the homes and architecture are old (phone number hidden)). The casita was once the carriage house for our home, built in 1918. Later it became a mechanics garage, and was turned into a guest house in 1975 or so. We completed a remodel in 2013.

West University is characterized by students living side by side with professors and other university staff as well as those how have been lured into the emerging urban lifestyle spurred by the revitalization of downtown Tucson the the new Modern Streetcar, coming Spring 2014.

It'(email hidden)ly neighborhood, with a young spirit, but a maturity of homes and trees that make it a unique Tucson neighborhood.

Getting around

A bus stop is conveniently located just a block away. The Modern Street Car stops just 2 blocks away in front of Time Market, an eatery featuring wood fired pizza, fantastic sandwiches, produce, some kitchen staples, a wine, beer and coffee bar, and freshly made bakery products. It's a find place to begin or end your day.

If you plan to venture to the desert or mountains, a car would be advisable.

  • "Urban Oasis Garden" is the perfect description for this property. Peter and Jeff were gracious hosts. The garden is incredibly beautiful and peaceful. The guesthouse met all of our needs. We really appreciated the private entrance and designated parking. The location was convenient to shopping and dining. We hope to stay there again.

  • We stayed here for our daughter's graduation from UofA, and we could not have asked for a better location. Classmates of our daughter had parents who were struggling to find hotels, only to find them 10-20 miles away and when they found out where we were staying, they were extremely jealous! We were able to walk everywhere. It was such a busy week with graduation festivities, so returning to this oasis was a relief and a godsend. I really don't think we would have stayed as refreshed staying elsewhere. I can't thank Peter and Jeff enough for their hospitality and their very special touches -- flowers, coffee, wine, beer, cereal-- it was absolutely perfect!

  • Peter was an amazing host and his home is a lovely place to stay in Tucson! Centrally located, clean, comfortable, and quiet. This is a wonderful place and Peter is very accommodating, there was even fruit, some snacks, and beverages in the fridge when we arrived! We loved hanging out on the patio and watching the birds play in their beautiful garden. This is really an oasis in the midst of the desert and I highly recommend staying there. It is an easy walk to 4th avenue, the University of Arizona, and a manageable walk to downtown. No complaints, only praise! Thanks Peter!

  • Peter and Jeff's place is just wonderful! If you are traveling with a roommate it's perfect...each bedroom is wonderful with a queen bed and amoire-so no one is relegated to the lesser room! Wonderful artwork, super comfortable couch (!) and fully appointed kitchen (and gas grill) for having dinner in-in the nicest oasis (backyard) in Tucson...with occasional visits from a trio of fuzzy friends. Close to several 'districts' for dining and shopping-and we found great coffee shops to work in. And I can't say enough about Peter and Jeff as hosts. We felt welcomed.

  • This Airbnb spot is the best. Artists, Peter and Jeff were very thoughtful, and delightful hosts. The Casita is comfortable, clean, and, tastefully decorated. The garden was my favorite place, for quiet time, prayers and coffee, in the mornings. Their 3 adorable, loving dogs greeted me each morning, with great enthusiasm. Arizona was a beautiful place to explore, but, my favorite place to be was in their beautiful garden , which is truly an oasis! I will definitely be back there, and, the sooner, the better. Thank you, Jeff and Peter!

  • This was our first Tucson vacation and our first time using Airbnb. The Urban Oasis was just as we pictured from the Airbnb site. Peter was there to greet us when we arrived. Fresh flowers welcomed us to the casita. The hosts keep it immaculate. The furnishings exemplify Tucson, the hosts' interests, and the surroundings. They supplied everything we needed to kick start our stay. The casita is close to downtown, to the University of Arizona campus, to the I-10 (for easy motoring to tourist destinations), and within easy walking distance to the 4th Street/University scene. We appreciated Peter and Jeff's dining recommendations. And we fell in love with Time Market at the intersection of 3rd Ave. and 4th Street. The garden offers a quiet spot for an evening glass of wine. All in all, the Urban Oasis Garden was the perfect spot for us.

  • The best place we have ever stayed,
Jeff and Peter are so friendly and sweet, they made us feel like family, never intrusive, just some of the nicest people I have ever met. Peter got us info on renting a crib and other baby bits, (something I had not even considered), gave my mom a key so she could bring some things over for us before we arrived and met the baby stuff rental people so everything was set for us when we got in.
Their garden is amazing, our daughter could have spent the whole week in the yard (so could I, but alas obligations), completely enclosed and private, little spaces make it inviting to sit and read, or have dinner on the porch.
The casita was perfectly appointed, we lacked nothing, tastefully decorated, with wonderful art and really comfortable beds (oh the beds! and the sheets, I actually miss the sheets). seriously a great place to stay.
My wife, daughter and I had a great stay, thank you guys!

  • This is the perfect place to stay. Peter and Jeff are so gracious and helpful and made us feel very welcome. The casita is beautifully decorated and very comfortable; I was completely taken by it and could have spent a day sitting on the veranda admiring the garden.

The location is excellent: close to I10, a quick drive to the airport and in walking distance of interesting shopping and restaurants.

Both my sister and I want to stay here again.

  • Aptly named, the urban oasis is comfortable and serene. Peter and Jeff are the perfect hosts. The guest house is warm and inviting and has everything a traveler needs. The location is ideal if you're visiting family, doing business or just looking for a home base to adventure around southern Arizona. You may find you don't want to leave the comfort of the oasis and the beautiful courtyard. Honestly, this home is even more lovely than the pictures show. This was my first experience with Airbnb and I picked the cream of the crop -- can't imagine staying anywhere else in Tucson.

Peter is a native of Arizona, and Jeff migrated here from NYC by way of 35 years in Ontario, Canada. Jeff is a professional artist and much of the work on display in the casita is his. Peter has a day job, but in his spare time, he enjoys throwing pots in the clay studio. We have three dogs who are very well socialized and always enjoy a good scratch behind the ears.
