Extra spacious

Guests love this home’s spaciousness for a comfortable stay.
One of a kind 4BR 3BA 5,200 sqft home. Stunning views of the CO Ntl Mnt and entire Grand Valley. Our grandpa, a home builder, designed this rustic house as a masterpiece for his family. He wanted it to be part of nature, so he fit it between trees and inside left exposed the massive sandstone slab on which it’s built. This large house has entertained our family and friends for generations, and we’re thrilled that now you can share it with yours, too. Be in nature but minutes from downtown!

The space
Our grandpa designed and built this unique home in a way that captures the rugged terrain on which it sits and compliments the stunning natural beauty of the Colorado National Monument that serves as the backdrop. He made it so every room has its own stunning view. Look closely at the photos to see the rock and wood detail throughout. The sandstone slab of the hill on which it’s built actually makes up the entire wall of the downstairs family room and the floor of the room above. Grandpa had artistic vision, creativity, and the craftsmanship to put it all together and he built this house from his heart. (He was still building furniture for us well into his 90s!). It has served as a cherished place for family gatherings, and we invite you to enjoy your vacation the way we have enjoyed this home throughout the generations. Have breakfast in the kitchen or on the giant deck, while enjoying unobstructed views of the Colorado National Monument and the way the morning sun hits the red rocks. Spend evenings by the massive fireplace watching the sun set over the Bookcliffs and the Grand Valley. During the summers you might catch a lightning storm over the grand valley as the thunder echoes off the massive canyon walls behind the house. We also have a charcoal grill so you can BBQ outside and take in the views from the deck. Take leisurely walks through the neighborhood or drive/bike to get to everything that Grand Junction has to offer. (See list below!)

See our video tour: search "House on the Rock" and "Grand Junction" on that big video platform that everyone uses (stated in a way that gets around a ban on mentioning websites here). :)

While most of the home furnishings are rustic and cozy in a way that preserves the years of fond memories, we made sure you had enough upgraded guest amenities to make your stay as comfy as can be: we just remodeled our showers, have hotel-quality linens, plush towels, and plenty of toiletries. You get to enjoy a vacation with maybe the most gorgeous views in the Grand Valley, in a house full of charmingly-old stuff spanning generations, but you still get to sleep as if you were staying in a great hotel.

PLEASE NOTE:

We try our absolute best to keep the house clean for you and all of our future guests. For this reason, we ask that you note our rules for no pets and no groups or gatherings of over 10 people. Other things to note
Please make yourselves at home while being respectful of this family treasure and peaceful neighborhood. No rowdy parties.

As our home is on three levels and on a hill, it has stairs to the front door and then staircases to the second and third level. Please take this into consideration if anyone in your group has mobility limits.

If you need anything at all during your stay, please don’t hesitate to contact the property manager, who lives just down the street.

We are listed as five bedrooms because AirBnb doesn't quite have the listing options needed for a full picture of our house. There is one bedroom off of the master bedroom that has a bed, but used to be a sewing room. It's a little smaller, and has a little less privacy than a normal bedroom. Also, the office has a bed, but we didn't list that as a bedroom. You have to walk through the office to get to the downstairs bedroom, and that bed is not in its own unconnected room. Please see our walk through video so you can get a full sense of the sleeping accommodations (search House on the Rock Grand Junction to view).

We have a ring camera outside the front door, but we do not have any cameras indoors.

A note about our cleaning fees: We do not make money- we charge you what we are charged for cleaning. We could eliminate our fee and include it in the per night price, but we would need to charge more overall as we pay our cleaners on a per stay basis, not a per night bases. We would then be tricking our guests into paying more, which we don't want to do. We do ask that you start a load of towels and start the dishwasher before leaving, as there is not enough time for our cleaners to clean a 5200 sq ft house and do those things as well. If we didn't, we would need to charge more for additional workers, and our cleaning fees would be higher. Thanks for understanding.

If you have a last minute need to cancel due to Covid this is our policy: As soon as you cancel our calendar opens up for rebooking. If a day (or days) you booked is rebooked, we will refund the amount we would have made on that day (or days). If no days are rebooked, unfortunately there will be no refund, as Covid is now a known possible complication for travelers. Thanks for understanding.

Neighborhood highlights

Quiet residential neighborhood with plenty of space between homes. Great for walks and within a mile of trailheads of amazing hikes. Also just a couple of miles from world-class mountain biking. Please refrain from hiking from the house onto the Monument, as it will be trespassing on our neighbor's property.
