This apartment is located perfectly between Copacabana and Ipanema beaches and the area was safe. However, it is also next door to some sort of waste treatment facility so the smell of sewerage can be powerful at times.
The Internet was sadly unreliable and very slow. It is a pity this was not able to be resolved in the 12 days we were there, given the high price we paid for this apartment during Carnaval.
Check in was easy, with the key at the front desk.
apartment was very basic eg tiny kitchen and bathroom but catered to everything we needed. the landlord was quick and efficient. thanks
The host canceled my reservation 23 days before arrival.
I showed up during Rock in Rio and EVERYTHING was booked, but Alex had one place open, thank goodness. I don't think it's exactly this location, it was 138 Gomes Carneiro, #804. It's a railroad style 1-br apartment, the kitchen and bathroom are a bit dated by US standards, but in line with other places I've stayed in Brazil. Everything worked, kitchen, TV, cable, internet, AC.
The location is really ideal. You are about 2 blocks from Ipanema beach, 4 from Copa beach, 1 block from metro. The street is busy enough to be safe, but not so busy it drives you crazy. There are tons of grocery stores, a variety of gyms, laundry, etc. in the area. I can't see staying in any other part of the city, to be honest.
Alex will be very accommodating. He lived in the US, so his english is perfect. If you need anything for the apartment he'll try to get it. If you need to know where a store/gym/whatever is, he knows the area. He can also help arrange transportation.
For the price, the place worked well. Everything was smooth. Some of the images associated with the apartment are actually the apartment - the kitchen is actually tiny, but that wasn't much of a problem.
