SUMMARY: Nice apartment in Somerville, renovated October 2013. 5 min walk from Orange line, 12 min from Downtown Crossing (subway) and 20 min from Harvard square (bus). Comfortable bed and desk + clothes storage. Kitchen available with modern appliances. Parking space available.
The apartment is brand new, it was renovated in October 2013. We usually get compliments for our hardwood floors and granite counter top in the kitchen, and it is always nice to get compliments! =)
We have a parking spot at the back of the building which we do not use because we don't have a car. It's like a garage that doesn't have a door, but our neighbors ensure the security of the parked cars.
We will give you a key for the apartment as well as a key for your room, so you can come and go as you want. In the room, there is a queen-size futon, a desk with a chair, and storage space in the closet. We do not have a TV, but we have high-speed Wi-Fi throughout the apartment. You are welcome to use one of our laptops if you didn't bring your own. We live in the apartment so you will have to share the other rooms with us, which are the following.
Bathroom: shower, take as many as you want! We will provide you with towels. You are welcome to have a bath, but on your own as it will not fit more than one adult. We also have a hairdryer which you can use.
Kitchen: feel free to cook anything you want using our equipment, oven & microwave. Enjoy the luxury of putting your dishes in the dishwasher. At the time of writing we did not have a toaster, but using the oven works just as well. Feel free to have some of our coffee or tea.
Living room and dining room: enjoy dinner at the table or lay down on the sofa and read a good book.
Interaction with Guests
We enjoy meeting people from other places and will try to make you feel at home. If you are looking for privacy, we will make ourselves discreet. If you are looking for social interactions, we will answer the call.
We live in East Somerville, very near Sullivan square station. It is mostly a quiet, residential area where you will be able to sleep like a baby while being able to get to the city center under 15min.
We live next to Broadway, where you cannot see any of the latest musical comedies, but you can get a haircut for as low as 13$ in one of the many hair salons on the street. There are other shops within walking distance: café 1min, liquor store 2min, convenience store 2,5min, the tavern at the end of the world 5min, supermarket 10min. Broadway is also home to thriving Brazilian and Mexican communities with dedicated shops, which means you will be traveling through Latin America without even leaving Boston!
It's a 5-minute walk to the Sullivan subway station, which means you can get to anywhere in the city center in under 15min. If you need to go to places in Cambridge such as Harvard or MIT, you will probably be taking the bus, which is definitely not as punctual as the subway, but will still get you there in about 20min.
Other Things to Note
We like to put some music on at a low level when nobody is working, but we can of course turn it off if it bothers you. You are more than welcome to plug your own MP3 player to our speakers and make us discover your favorite artists!
We are only renting one room, there will only be you and us in the apartment for the duration of your stay.
The inside of the apartment is non-smoking, but you are free to have a cigarette on the front or back porch.
Very good location and listing. Host's did an amazing job with everything. Would recommend this for anyone traveling to Boston.
Camille's place is really cozy and of course, clean. It is just minutes away from metro/subway station and it takes us to downtown and Harvard in such short time. But most importantly, Camille is a great host and she and Nils made sure we feel welcome and at home. On top of that, she prepared a short, but very informative guide that we found very useful on our two-day trip in Boston. We went to some places/attraction she mentioned in her guide and we loved them. I would definitely stay at her place again the next time I am in town.
Camille's apartment was the perfect accommodation for a short trip to Boston. She was flexible about our check in time, and had towels, maps, and mints ready for us. The Sullivan Square T station is literally 5 minutes away on foot, which was super convenient for going into the city on a daily basis. The bed was very comfortable, despite it being a futon, and somehow the temperature managed to stay perfect (even for a weather-spoiled gal from Los Angeles!), so we were comfy the entire time. Camille was super prompt in answering any questions via text. We didn't use any facility other than the bathroom, but Camille was very friendly and made us feel welcome to do so.
I stayed at Camille's house for 2nights. The room I used was very cozy, clean and comfortable. It is located within walking distance from subway and 15min away from downtown. The location information and guidline about neighborhood was so much helpful. Also it was nice to offer clean towels to use. I enjoyed staying at this house and talking with them.
I have to say the destination is so good- very easy to find and can take the train to the downtown conveniently. The room is big and clean. And Camille and her husband are very friendly.
If you want to find a place that is cheap and easily to get to downtown and Harvard & MIT, this is one of your best choices.
Camille is a very friendly and helpful host. The house is very near downtown, 10 to 15 mins walk to the metro and after taking a few stations(the orange line), you could go to Boston downtown. It is also easy to go to airport, it it just chance the metro line for only one time (orange to blue line). The total travel time would be less than 1 hour by metro. Everything is fine, i would recommend othet people to stay in Camille`s house when they visit Boston. Thank you.
Found the place no problem; SERIOUSLY easy to get to from the airport if you can follow simple directions, and then amazingly convenient to get around all of Boston using the T. I was busy running around for my entire stay because of a convention, but I felt very welcome and I really enjoyed the house. I recommend this place wholeheartedly.
