Everyone who opens the front door says the same thing..."awww! It's so sweet!". Our little cottage is located on 90 acres, and is just 10 minutes away from Downtown Santa Cruz and Capitola (we are located on a super neat back road that avoids highway 1 traffic).
Unlike most homes in the Santa Cruz mountains, our little cottage is flooded with sunshine all day long. Every single window looks out onto the stunning landscape.
We outfitted the home with brand new furniture in October 2013, and often wish we could stay there ourselves. The clawfoot bathtub is my favorite part of the house.
The cottage shares the 90 acre property with 2 other houses, so even though you'll feel a million miles away from city life, you can still ask your neighbor for a cup of sugar.
90 acres of meadows and forest
There are 2 other homes on the property, so pretty please don't sit on their front porches *laugh*. You are welcome to walk all around the property and explore the hiking trails, but please keep out of the barns (there are 2). They aren't that interesting anyway (currently just used for storage).
Interaction with Guests
We will leave you alone! In fact, you can't even see our house when you're inside the cottage. If you do want to pop over and say hello, that is absolutely fine. We have 2 young children (under age 3), so we will most likely be playing with bubbles or cleaning up toy trains. Most of the time we are home in the evenings, and enjoy having campfires after the kids go to bed. Feel free to join us if you see us outside!
Every time I get out of the car and take a deep breath, it smells like heaven and my shoulders relax. Country living at it's best.
Yay for cars! You can technically ride your bike here (all flat roads from town), but, it is a bit scary because the cars aren't very good at sharing the road.
Other Things to Note
We do have the internet, but because of our mountain location, it isn't the best for streaming movies and such. It works for basic email, and is a bit spotty at times. This is usually a good thing when you're trying to be on vacation! *laugh*
Please don't burn any candles. We are terrified of fire, so please remember this when you are roaming about. Also, the wildlife has forgotten how wild it's suppose to be, so please keep the doors and unscreened windows closed. You'll be in for a surprise if you forget to do this!
Lacae and Alex were gracious hosts and attentive to our needs. We had a lovely stay and thoroughly enjoyed our time here!
Laecee was super fast at responding to my messages, and she made us feel very welcome and at home in her gorgeous cottage. We had a really relaxing time, just sitting outside reading, or playing cards in the kitchen. It was great to have no internet for 3 days!
It's a short drive to Santa Cruz, so we went there for lunch a few times, but it was always the best feeling to come back home to our little cottage tucked away in the forest.
The cottage was the perfect getaway for two. The neighborhood was beautiful and close to town, but you still felt like you were secluded in the woods. Such a peaceful and serene place to stay, worth every penny. Great for our small dog as well. I would love to stay again!
There is an awesome view of the stars. We brought our telescope and had a great time checking out the night sky. The cottage itself is super cute and cozy, perfect for a peaceful getaway. While start gazing, there was a really freindly cat that joined us in the field behind the cottage and was purring extensively while we pet her/him.
What a great time I had at the cabin! Laecee was a fabulous hostess. The cottage is magical. It was clean and ready to go when I arrived. Laecee was easy to get in touch with and the cabin was exactly as shown in the photos. If you are looking for a very peaceful getaway in a cottage snuggled in the mountains - this is the place for you!
Wow! ; what a fabulous little cottage nestled in the mountains. Laecee was the perfect host and the cottage itself was very clean, comfortable and looked just as it did in the pictures. I would go back to this little piece of heaven any day! Thanks Laecee !
Laecee was super responsive and helpful in our planning process. She always replied to any questions within minutes. Overall, it was a great experience from booking, to staying, and leaving. The place itself is super quaint and very clean. There's a big sloped meadow in the back where you can go star gazing at night too!
Happy. Pretty much sums me up. I have the best job in the world (I get to dress up like a mermaid for a living...I'm not kidding), and am married to my prince charming. We have 2 children (under three years old, makes for very little sleep...but a ton of laughing!) and live in paradise. Come stay at our guest house, you'll see what I mean!
