Everyone who opens the front door says the same thing..."awww! It's so sweet!". Our little cottage is located on 90 acres, and is just 10 minutes away from Downtown Santa Cruz and Capitola (we are located on a super neat back road that avoids highway 1 traffic).

The space

Unlike most homes in the Santa Cruz mountains, our little cottage is flooded with sunshine all day long. Every single window looks out onto the stunning landscape.

We outfitted the home with brand new furniture in October 2013, and often wish we could stay there ourselves. The clawfoot bathtub is my favorite part of the house.

The cottage shares the 90 acre property with 2 other houses, so even though you'll feel a million miles away from city life, you can still ask your neighbor for a cup of sugar.

Guest access

90 acres of meadows and forest
Full Kitchen
Full Bathroom
Private Bedroom

There are 2 other homes on the property, so pretty please don't sit on their front porches *laugh*. You are welcome to walk all around the property and explore the hiking trails, but please keep out of the barns (there are 2). They aren't that interesting anyway (currently just used for storage).

*Important note for Guests with dogs*
One of the other houses on our property has a dog. Her name is Gretel and she is the sweetest, most excited to see you dog in the world. The only catch is, if you have a dog with you and go near her house...she feels a bit uncozy about that. Please take care when walking your dog by Gretel's house (the house at the end of the road) by not lingering by her fence too long. If Gretel comes to visit you at the Fairy Tale Cottage, she is totally fine there because she doesn't have a need to 'protect' it. We have had many guests come with dogs and never have a problem at the cottage. We have had an issue in the past, however, if the guest's dog comes into Gretel's space at her own house.

Interaction with guests

We will leave you alone! In fact, you can't even see our house when you're inside the cottage. If you do want to pop over and say hello, that is absolutely fine. We have 2 young children (under age 3), so we will most likely be playing with bubbles or cleaning up toy trains. Most of the time we are home in the evenings, and enjoy having campfires after the kids go to bed. Feel free to join us if you see us outside!

Other things to note

We do have the internet, but because of our mountain location, it isn't the best for streaming movies and such. It works for basic email, and is a bit spotty at times. This is usually a good thing when you're trying to be on vacation! *laugh*

Pretty please turn off all the heaters when you go, and don't worry about locking the door. Just leave the keys on the kitchen table. We want your vacation to be lovely, so we will take care of cleaning as long as you promise do to your dishes and take any food that you purchased along with you before you leave *wink* (our trash can is very small and can't handle too much more than normal trash). Have a great time!

Welcome to Santa Cruz! We are excited to share our little slice of heaven with you.

There are a few ways to keep our home safe and sound while you're here:

Please don't burn any candles. We are terrified of fire, so please remember this when you are roaming about. Also, the wildlife has forgotten how wild it's suppose to be, so please keep the doors and unscreened windows closed. You'll be in for a surprise if you forget to do this!

We are on a Spring for water, hooray! Yummy! The only catch is that we are in a maaaaajor drought. That means we have to be incredibly careful with water consumption here on the Farm, or...we will have to leave the property because we won't have any water. YIKES. So! What does that mean for you? Pretty please don't fill the bath tub up very high. Also, please limit your showers to an efficient period of time.

Oh...another thing. Pretty please drive VERY SLOWLY down the driveway to our house. The road is fragile, and will wear out quickly if we drive quickly. Also, Finn and Hazel (our children) like to roam the property on their adventures, and this will keep them safe.

That's it! Thank you so much!

A peaceful idyllic location. I went solo with my dog and found the cottage with some difficulty ( follow directions and stick to the right after the bridge!) it will seem like you are encroaching into someone's property, but you are not ! I loved walking up and down the meadow and ventured near the barn. The wireless was very reliable ( I wish it wasn't ;) ) . I will carry with me lovely memories of sipping my chai on the chair and reading a book with the chirping of birds and the pecking of the woodpecker and the backdrop. Unfortunately I did land there on two of the hottest days and made an afternoon getaway to the beach which is 20 mins away. The weather on the other days was magnificent and I didn't leave the cottage . Will probably be back for more

It was great. Saw the deer, had coffee on the porch, and had our dog run wild in the meadow.

A rural, rustic gem! Perfect retreat for having peace and quiet to write, read a good book or take walks in the meadows or redwoods. I was given all the privacy I needed and enjoyed my brief interactions with both Laecee and Alex who were kind , considerate and thoughtful. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in this enchanting, beautifully situated cottage. I hope to return again and again.

A well-kept cottage on a giant property, a windy and beautiful 15 minute drive to town. Friendly hosts, cottage is well furnished, decent kitchen, at a fair price.

This place is magic. Peace and Quiet. An amazing field to frolic through, hidden meadows, redwoods, birds, owls, bees, nature! And a quick 15 min fun drive into town. Highly recommended.

What a lovely, peaceful place to get away! Very quiet. Loved sitting on the porch, watching the deer! Putting this on our favorites list.

The cottage is very nice and it has all the amenities. It's quite remote place so you can enjoy nature, quietness and running deers just next to the cottage. It was a very relaxing stay. There is no wifi in the cottage itself though... You can go to the host who live few meters further and use their wifi which sometimes worked in the cottage too. It's close to santa cruz which is a nice small town.

Happy. Pretty much sums me up. I have the best job in the world (I get to dress up like a mermaid for a living...I'm not kidding), and am married to my prince charming. We have 2 children (under three years old, makes for very little sleep...but a ton of laughing!) and live in paradise. Come stay at our guest house in Santa Cruz and you'll see what I mean!
