The space

- Incredible views from a beautiful house, garden, swimming pool and water fall

- Just 25 minutes from the airport (SJO), 45 minutes from the beaches and 90 minutes from incredible Poas Volcano

- Brand new swimming pool with views of the Central Valley of Costa Rica.

- Queen-sized beds in every bedroom. All have en-suite bathrooms.

- Hi-speed internet, large kitchen, washer/dryer, beautifully furnished

- Atenas has been described as "the best climate in the world" and it's true - it never gets too hot, and never gets too cold. It is a truly incredible place.

Guest access

You can use the entire house consisting of 4 beds/4 en-suite bathrooms (two in the main house, and two separate brand new "casitas" just steps from the main house), study, lounge, kitchen, dining room, garden in front of house with patio, separate stone table and benches. The Vista Atenas neighborhood is also incredible to walk around, see the different architectural styles and find different, beautiful views from every angle!

Interaction with guests

We have a wonderful local property manager (originally from Switzerland, who speaks perfect England) who is at hand to answer every question and make sure you have the time of your life in Costa Rica. And the owner is always available and very responsive by email or phone.

The neighborhood

Vista Atenas is a quiet secluded mountain-side community of houses on large private lots. You can see the Pacific Ocean on a clear day in the distance. Huge coffee fields cover the adjacent hillsides.

Getting around

Unless you wish to stay purely in Atenas, you will need to rent a car (SUV/4WD recommended although not strictly necessary).

We can recommend English-speaking tour guides who do wonderful trips to many of the attractions around Costa Rica, if you would prefer a day or two without having to drive or navigate the roads yourself. (These drivers tend to be much better value than the main tour companies that most tourists use.)

Other things to note

No pets allowed.

I, and my friends had an AMAZING time at Douglas' place. The view was stunning. The house was amazing. The kitchen was perfect for preparing and cooking meals. We loved the solar heated pool and spent a great deal of time outside. The various service people that came (cleaner, gardener, pool) were all extremely polite and efficient. I, Md my friends would definitely stay here again

This was our first time visiting Costa Rica and this was a great place to stay. All you have to do is walk out the front door to experience the birds and other wildlife of Costa Rica, we did see monkeys in the trees across the way from the house. The one thing you will want to do when you arrive at the house is jump in the pool because it is situated in an ideal spot with great water temperature and views. Since we were coming in late, we let the property manager drive us to the house, at a cost. It was good to do that because there are a lot of winding roads and it would have been hard to find the house on our own. But we didn't use the property manager after that, we decided we could probably figure it out at a lower cost on our own. The house was spacious, clean, the kitchen was well equipped for our needs and it had great views through the several huge windows. We did realize after arriving that we needed a car to go to any of the sites such as Monteverde or Manuel Antonio (2.5hr drives) or even the town of Atenas ( 1h hour walk). Overall this was a nice house in a nice town, (we did take the hour walk to the town and went to the market), but you will need a car to get around and the beaches are not close by.

We had a wonderful time at Casa Benn. The house is airy, well-equipped and beautifully situated. It's peaceful and eating al fresco overlooking the valley was so enjoyable. We saw hummingbirds in the garden and were able to enjoy orange juice from the oranges there... We can't fault the house or the location: Thank you so much for sharing it!

We had a lovely time at Douglas' house. The house and the 2 casitas are clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the pool a lot. The Property Managers, Aad and Marian, are wonderful people. They are very helpful and are the best people to welcome you to Costa Rica! Thank you!

Douglas's Villa was beatiful and quite big. Enough space for a lot of people and we loved the view from the mountain. Although, we didn't really like the welcoming we had. Comming from another city 6 hours from Atena, we got our gps stolen and 2 stabbed tires so we were late on the check in time and the Lady that was waiting for us was really mad, not understanding and direspectful by accusing us on taking our time for no reason. Also, the wifi wasnt working during the entire stay so we couldnt check our activities online and had to reffer to their activity book. We got to 2 activities we choose and both were closed, one is not existing anymore for 5 years... And lost a full day of vacation. The villa was beautiful but a little too personnalized, seeing all kind of pictures and trophees of Douglas and his son.. We felt like we were living in a strangers house. If you want to do activities around Atena just make sure you know where to go before the trip. If you need help, dont conact Douglas because he always reffer to the lady whos taking care of it, and shes not really more available for you whatsoever. She told us that if we need help on the road because It could be complicated or if we have any trouble not to contact her but to ask a taxi driver....... Which can not be safe at all. Wouldnt go back.

We felt very welcomed in this place. There was a Dutch couple who met us and showed us everything we needed to know which was extremely helpful plus they were always there to help us (even when our car broke down). The house is located in a gated community so we have felt very safe, it is further away from the town so a car is highly recomended. Everything in house was perfect and we have felt like at home during the entire stay. The location is perfect for nearby trips such as La Paz waterfall or Poas volcano etc. I would definitelly very highly recommend this place to everyone.
