The Space

Wrens Nest, in Old Seminole Heights, you have half a cozy, secluded house in artsy Seminole Heights, Tampa. The Wren's Nest, a lovely home in tree-lined Old Seminole Heights near the Hillsborough River, can be your home for days or weeks. Your own private, cozy bedroom with bath, living room, office and kitchen amenities under a southern canopy of oaks and palms. All amenities, cable TV in your room, WiFi, overhead fan, private bath, an office across from the private bedroom with a desktop computer, printer and scanner with an eclectic library. The outside patio, complete with a hammock in the "secret garden", is beautifully landscaped with native Florida plants and trees. The garden was created in 1956, providing a Palm and Oak shaded sanctuary in a natural, serene and private setting. A block away is the Hillsborough River, great for manatee and alligator sightings. The neighborhood is perfect for walks and jogging along tree lined Old Seminole Heights streets. Awaken in a natural setting to abundant birdlife, the wrens greeting one another, along with the Cardinals, Thrashers, Mockingbirds, Blue Jays and occasional hawk. Minutes away from the Wren's Nest are a cornucopia of restaurants, cocktail lounges and bars, a micro brewery, recording studio, grocery stores, coffee shops, vintage clothing/toy shops, and a BBQ, "Smoky Oaks" is within walking distance, scenting the neighborhood with the aroma of smokin' ribs, chicken and brisket. Downtown Tampa and the convention center, history center, the STRAZ Performing Arts Center, Tampa Museum of Art, Glazer Childrens Museum, and many restaurants of every ethnicity are all ten minutes away. Busch Gardens Amusement Park and Lowry Park Zoo are fifteen minutes away. If you'd like to try your luck at a casino, Seminole Hard Rock Casino is fifteen minutes (website hidden). Petersburg and Clearwater beaches are 35 minutes away. Tarpon Springs with its sponge docks and great authentic Greek food is 45 minutes away. The Lightening Hockey Team, the Yankee's Spring Training, Legends Field, The Bucs stadium, all are within fifteen minutes of the Wren's Nest. The Rays Tropicana Field is 45 minutes away. Not to be missed is the night life and restaurants in historical Ybor City, the birthplace for the cigar industry in the late 1800's, only ten minutes from the Wren's Nest. From downtown Tampa, take a trolley to visit Channelside, or to hang out in Ybor City, where you can go on a Mafia tour or a ghost graveyard tour, after cocktails, cigars and dinner with many fine restaurants, including the famous and historical 1905 Columbia, to choose from. If you'd prefer a home-cooked meal, I am an excellent chef and love to cook. My specialties include artisan breads, Italian dishes (my mozzarella stuffed meatballs in tomato basil sauce is always a hit), crepes for breakfast and anything from salads to soups to stroganoff are just some of my offerings, for a small additional fee. Music lovers relish Ybor city with it's exciting nightlife. For more far flung adventures, Disney and Orlando are just an hour and fifteen minutes away. Nestled under the oaks of Old Seminole Heights you can relax in our comfortable home or be on a major highway within five minutes or grab local transportation, at the HART bus line stop is on our corner. You'll (email hidden) book with maps, coupons and a cornucopia of information to help you enjoy your stay with us. Escape to the Wren's Nest for a delightful visit exploring all that makes the Tampa Bay area great!

Guest Access

The guest bedroom, guest bathroom, living room, kitchen and office/library, deck
and patio area. The guest area is on one side of our home, with the kitchen separating our living area and that of our guests. The pullout couch in the living room can sleep two more, at a cost of $10 per additional person per night.

Interaction with Guests

As much or as little interaction as our guests would like to make their stay with us the most enjoyable possible. We are happy to provide lots of information on the best Tampa has to offer.

The Neighborhood

We are ten minutes from downtown Tampa, 30 minutes to local beaches and minutes from many local restaurants and attractions. Our neighborhood is a beautifully tree lined oasis in Tampa, one block from the Hillsborough River. There are three small parks in our immediate neighborhood along the river, many places to walk and job, and within one mile excellent local restaurants and shops.

Getting around

We are very centrally located to hwy 275 and rt. 4, within five minutes of fast access. Public transportation: HART busline is available for transportation with a bus stop on the corner of our street and Sligh, just steps away from the Wrens Nest. However, the bus service, even the "express" services are extremely slow, taking about 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 hours to get to downtown Tampa, a trip which takes between 10-15 minutes from our
Wren's Nest in Old Seminole Heights. There are also many taxi services and if our schedule permits. Additionally, Lyft just began operating in Tampa, which is an inexpensive taxi-like service. Here are the details: Lyft recently started recruiting drivers in Tampa, and the Lyft service formally started Friday night with the following suggested “donation” rates: $1.92 per mile, 21 cents a minute, plus a $2.75 pickup and insurance fee. There’s a $5 minimum, so in theory, a ride from the airport to downtown might run about $19.34, though much of the Lyft sales pitch is the social benefit of meeting like-minded friends, if not during the car ride, then at the Lyft-sponsored driver/passenger parties around the country.

Other Things to Note

My husband is an artist and I am a writer. Our home and patio and very private back yard is an oasis of peace away from busy Tampa. We love people, the arts, and I love to cook, bake bread and share recipes. Our home is an eclectic combination of art, antiques, books, comfort and is a peaceful getaway close to beaches, restaurants, night life, music, the Yankee's Spring training Stadium, Legends Field, as well as other spring training facilities. The Lightening Hockey Team, museums, art galleries, Ybor City are all assets that Tampa has to offer. We are also about an hour from Orlando's Disney, Universal and about 30 minutes from the Hard Rock Casino. Whatever you're looking for, be it a peaceful getaway or a fun time of entertainment and shopping, it's all here!

  • From the moment we arrived, we felt right at home. Jayne and Tim made us feel so welcome. Our only regret was the limited time we had to spend at The Wren's Nest!

    May 2014
  • Jayne and Tim were wonderful hosts with a lovely, cozy, Florida home. We loved the privacy we got from basically having half of the house to ourselves and we also appreciated laid-back and relaxed Jayne and Tim were. They have a beautifully curated Tampa guide book they've made that's available in the bedroom and they're happy to invite guests to Tim's gallery openings and other events of interest in the Tampa area. We were pretty busy this week visiting family, so we didn't get a chance to spend as much time with them as we'd have liked, but if their home is available for our next vacation, we'll absolutely stay with them again!

  • Wow. This is an awesome place to stay. Where to start? Jayne is simply amazing and Tim is equally fantastic. Put them together and you have two friendly, helpful, kind, talented and passionate souls who are fabulous hosts. They both seem to know everything about Tampa (Yay, Bo's!), are excellent cooks (yum), and are very easy-going. As Jayne says, "our home is an eclectic combination of art, antiques, books and comfort. I couldn't agree more. The neighborhood felt quite safe (charming, actually) and it was easy to find and close to everything. Jayne also provides a complete Guest Book filled with any and all information a guest may need (plus a lovely personal welcome card!). I highly recommend this host, whether for a short or long stay! (I'll be back!)

  • Stayed here for five nights while I was at a conference in Tampa. Jayne and Tim were warm, welcoming, and accommodating. I highly recommend staying with them. Taking the bus to downtown was easy and fast, and it was nice to leave the city each night and not have to stay in a hotel.

  • Jayne and Tim are two of the nicest people I have ever met. Their place is clean, comfortable, and wonderfully decorated with stained glass and abundant artwork. They live in a quiet neighborhood are are close to almost everything. I absolutely recommend this home with a resounding ** 5 stars ** and look forward to our next trip to Tampa.

    Response from Jayne:

thank you so much for the 5* response, we really appreciate it. We thoroughly enjoyed your visit as well. Thanks for the heads up about the disc golf at our neighborhood park off 22nd st! There was a big article in the newspaper today that mentioned our Disc Golf park. Of course, the article went right into the guide book! Hope you're getting some sun in Portland. Looking forward to visiting with you there someday in the future.

  • Thoroughly enjoyed accommodations. Comfortable relaxed atmosphere.
Hosts Jayne and Tim are easy going and will make you feel at home.
Morning coffee on the back patio in the hammock was just what I needed to
overcome some jetlag. I would definitely do it again and look forward to seeing them in the future.

I am a writer first, an artist second. I have developed my art and writing through my years in NY, Vermont, California and Florida. Tim and I are both artists and writers. Our home is our little art colony so there are always on-going art, writing, art shows and projects we are involved in and enjoy sharing with friends and guests. We both love Tampa and enjoy the special secrets of all of our great restaurants, walks, beaches, hideaways and historical, art, entertainment and city events with others. The Hillsborough River is a block away from the Wren's Nest, great for viewing the manatees and alligators. The setting of our home is in a natural Florida landscaped garden. The patio, complete with hammock, was created completely of native plants in 1956, which have thrived and grown over the years, creating a completely private setting. Tim's art is displayed in several different restaurant galleries in downtown Tampa. My work, published in the Pages of My Life Anthology by Breath and Shadows Press is also a USF Center for the Aging textbook requirement. We are very "people oriented" hosts and would love to provide you with as much information to make your stay with us perfect. Tea or coffee served in the mornings, and for a small fee, my specialty crepes with homemade jam can also be provided. We look forward to making our home your private getaway!
