About This Listing
Large, light-filled 2BR / 2 bath private apartment in the former mansion of Brooklyn's mayor with hotel quality amenities. 2 blocks from the subway, 15 minutes to Manhattan. A relaxing, artsy neighborhood with all the amenities you would want.
Stay at the former Mansion of the Mayor of Brooklyn. This unique brownstone has gorgeous original details, high ceilings, hardwood floors, exposed brick, parquet floors, etc.
This listing is for 2 bedroom / 2 bathroom private apartment. The apartment is drenched in sunlight, quiet, and large (1,640 square feet, or about 160 sq. meters)
There is a large living room, a large eat-in-kitchen, a small office, and a pantry. We live downstairs and are always around if you need anything. We can lend your kids our toys, books, etc. We provide hotel quality amenities: towels, shampoo and conditioner, soap, hair dryer, umbrellas, guide books, maps, etc. For longer stays, weekly professional cleaning service is provided at no charge.
We're located in a great section of the neighborhood of Fort Greene! You can check out the AirBnB guide to the neighborhood or search for it online. Watch out for other listings on the fringe of the neighborhood, or too close to the Barclay Center. Ft. Greene is an exciting neighborhood with plenty to do, but it's also quiet and feels like a real neighborhood. Close by is Fort Greene park, the famous Brooklyn Flea market, a weekend farmer's market, the second largest subway hub in New York City, the Barclay Center, the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), and of course restaurants, cafes and bars. Just 15 minutes from Manhattan! Also, CitiBike bike sharing has bikes for rent every few blocks in a large part of Brooklyn and Manhattan.
We have WiFi or wired internet. The living room has a flat screen TV with Netflix, Hulu Plus (for viewing TV shows), and AppleTV.
We look forward to hosting you!
Interaction with Guests
We respect your privacy, and you will never have to see us if you don't want to, but we're always around if you have questions or need help.
Our neighborhood, Fort Greene, is very close to Manhattan (we are just two blocks from a subway station), but feels much more comfortable. It's quiet and spacious, with tree-lined blocks filled with historic "brownstone" houses from the 19th century.
There is a beautiful park designed by the same people who designed Central Park, a local farmers market, a famous flea market, and plenty of cafes, restaurants, and fancy food stores. You can search online, as there have been many articles written about our neighborhood. Also, AirBnB has neighborhood guides you can look at.
As for transportation, you can get to Manhattan very easily via subway. We are two blocks from the "C" train, and 7 or 8 blocks from the 2nd largest subway hub (after Grand Central) in the city, where many lines run. Depending on where you are going, and which line you need to take, it will take you 15-25 minutes to get anywhere south of 14th street, including the Financial District, SoHo, Tribeca, the Lower East Side, the Village, etc. To get to midtown is another 10 minutes.
After 10pm or so, I usually take a taxi, not so much because of safety concerns, but rather because the trains run infrequently and irregularly late at night. From below 14th st, it will cost about $15, more from midtown.
Please, no parties and keep the noise to a respectful level at night for our neighbors. We provide towels, bedding, hair dryer, cooking utensils, spices and other basics, and whatever else you might need. Don't worry about the dishes, we'll do them.
Beautiful apartment. We had an amazing time there. Clean, well located and way above what we expected. We would recommend it without any doubts.
This was an excellent Airbnb experience. The apartment was just like in the photos and description, and the instructions about entering on arrival, etc., were clear and complete. We would recommend staying at the Mayor's Mansion to anyone interested in a great Brooklyn/NY experience.
Totally enjoyed our experience. Comfortable beds, nice towels, perfect for my husband myself and two grown daughters! One suggestion: a nonskid bathmat for the shower would be good! It was a little bit slippery. Folks should be prepared for plenty of stairs! We are at the ages (between 60 and 67 where it is somewhat difficult to carry large, heavy suitcases up a couple flights of stairs!) Having said that, we would still stay again. The space was exactly as described and extremely comfortable!!
We've enjoyed staying at the Mayor's Mansion.
Spacious place with nice elements and details in a pleasant and quiet neighborhood.
Close to enough train stations (M) to visit the city completely.
We'll be back......

Claudia and Leo were the wonderful hosts!
We were greeted very warmly and a bottle of wine and a bowl of tangerines awaited us.
Communication with the hosts was great, both before arrival and during our stay. Claudia informed us her whatsapp number and we were in touch "on line".
The apartment itself is gorgeous! It is very clean and spacious and decorated with fine taste. The sofas in the living room are very comfortable and perfect for relaxing after a day out.
The kitchen is very well equipped with a large fridge and a great stove. There is fine cutlery, plates and glasses for water and wine.
With so many facilities it was a pleasure to prepare our dinner on Sunday night and when as we needed a bigger pan to cook pasta Claudia was super kind to lent us a large one.
We were 2 adults and three adolescents and it was great to have two bedrooms completely independent, with their own bathroom which, by the way, are very spacious. The linens and towels are all white and incredibly soft. The beds are big and very comfortable, like five star hotels.
The house is very well situated. It’s in a very peaceful and quiet neighborhood, and at night there was no noise to disturb our sleep. Nearby there are coffee bars, restaurants, pizza, grocery stores, bakery and everything we needed.
We usually went to Manhattan to spend the day, what was very easy because there are two subway lines within two blocks away. But in fact returning to Brooklyn at the end of the day was the best part, because I felt like coming home.
We really couldn't have asked for more!
This is an elegant, comfortable and spacious apartment, perfect for a family or two couples to share.....lots of stairs is the only drawback if you're disabled or elderly. Other than that, it's a wonderful experience and Leo and Claudia are gracious, very helpful hosts. When they finish their building restoration, it will be be heavenly, right now it's just divine. I could live there and I'm very fussy!!! My daughter is a neighbor so it was perfect for me, despite the stairs......and did I mention that in the dead of winter, it was very warm and cosy with a fully equipped kitchen and laundry. A great boutique grocery is right around the corner and numerous nice restaurants in walking distance. You can't do better!! I walked away from my last AirB&B rental because it was so grungy. This is just the opposite.....tasteful and very clean!
A perfect place to stay with kids!
This apartment suited perfectly for our visit to NY. We stayed for six nights during a cold and wet NY week, and it was very comfortable to return every day to a cozy and warm home.
Situated on the top floor the apartment was spacious, modern and quiet, with a stylish touch. For example the record player with original vinyls from the 80’s. What better way to start exploring NY than Simon and Garfunkel crooning in the morning?
With two bedrooms and two bathrooms, we could stay comfortably with two kids (7 & 13). The beds were very comfortable and large enough for our kids to share without kicking each other out.
The apartment has a good location for exploring, with subway lines close by. A number of restaurants, coffee bars and convenience stores are just around the corner.
As our our youngest put it: “it’s so much better than an hotel!”

About the Host, Claudia And Leo
Hello, Claudia and Leo live in Brooklyn in an historic brownstone mansion, once home to the Mayor of Brooklyn. We have two children, aged 5 and 7. We live on the bottom two floors and rent / airBnB the top two. We have backpacked all over the world (when we were younger) and still love to travel, to meet fellow travelers, and to share our love of all things Brooklyn and New York. We look forward to meeting you!
