Sylvia, the cook and cleaning person greeted us. Her breakfast choices offered were great. Vida Tropical is like a hostel with private rooms, there were common areas that provided for a comfortable time outside your room. It is located in a working class neighborhood about 10 minutes from town center walking, and the owners did state it was not too safe for women walking solo at night. The rooms were very clean, had good ventilation and large bathrooms. Note that two rooms face a very busy street and can be a little noisy at night. Located close to the airport, Vida Tropical is a great place to stay. We used it on our arrival and just prior to departure and the location made it much easier to return rentals and brave the drive to the airport.
There are two great restaurants within easy walking distance owned by the house supervisor's (Isabelle's) family. They are reasonable and a step up from many of the other restaurant choices in the area.
Isabelle was extremely well organized and was always ready and willing to help with any questions we might have. This was very helpful and appreciated
Vida Tropical is awesome, closeto the airport and restaraunts.
Everyone is very friendly, good place to stay.
Vida tropical was the perfect place for me to land in SJO. Great neighbourhood, lovely room in the garden, and Isabel, the inn manager was super. Highly recommended!
I always stay at vida tropical when I depart Costa Rica. It is excellent value, very close to the airport, with clean rooms and bathrooms, friendly staff, quiet and safe neighborhood. The in room fans and TV help me relax and get a good night of sleep before traveling. The included breakfasts are very tasty too. I also often take private salsa dance lessons at Merecumbe, a dance studio a fifteen minute walk away. I highly recommend vida tropical to anyone.
Everyone at hotel vida tropical wasso helpful. The breakfast was deliciois and the room and bathroom were spotless(thanks sylvie!). Very close to downtown. I walked around the park and cathedral. Highly recommend!
Accueil sympathique. Le logement était très propre et le quartier calme. Très bien avant de prendre l'avion et le trajet de retour.

Isabel has things organized and is ready to help you with almost anything!! She understands the needs of travelers and is patient, calm and friendly. Vida Tropical BnB made our final days in Costa Rica end smoothly. Thank you Isabel for all your help!

I was born in Cuba, raised in Florida, moved to Costa Rica in 1997, love to read, travel, grow stuff to cook it and eat it, surf the Net, opened Vida Tropical in 1999, have great people helping: Isabel, my manager for 6 years, is from Colombia, married to Norman, New Yorker from Colombian parents, he owns Jalapeño Central Tex Mex Restaurant in Alajuela. Their son is Nico, born in Costa Rica. Sylvia, from Costa Rica, has been our housekeeper and cook for 10 years. Adilio (Pilo) is also Costa Rican and is there covering late arrivals (after 8) and early departures (from 3 to 7 AM), I'm there only part of the time, the rest I spend now in my new place in Playa Carrillo. We all enjoy meeting the great variety of guests from all over the world. We have one of the world's best breakfasts at both places, with 4 or 5 types of fresh fruit, orange juice, high altitude coffee and assorted teas, white and brown sugar and milk, corn flakes and granola, several kinds of bread for toast, several kinds of homemade jams and jellies, eggs any style, poached, sunny side up, over easy, scrambled, omelettes, frittatas, your choice of plain or with smoked cheese, garlic, onions, green pepper, tomatoes, smoked ham or country sausage, French toast and pancakes with or without fruit or chocolate chips, honey, syrup and Nutella. Include also if you wish a serving of our own version of Gallo Pinto, a mix of rice and beans seasoned with diced veggies and our secret mix of spices, Balsamic vinegar and Lizano sauce, the Costa Rican version of Worcestershire sauce, mighty tasty stuff.
