World-class log home in the heart of Alaska. Wonderful views, peaceful and private, ideally located. Amazing shows of the aurora borealis from the large deck.

The space
Stunning Alaskan log home near Fairbanks, in private, quiet, sunny location, with great views, and close to the University and town. Ideal for watching and photographing the aurora borealis from the deck! Experience real Alaska in style! Ideally located on the outskirts of town. Accommodates up to six people. The house has two bedrooms with very comfy queen beds and a loft with a queen futon bed and couch.

Travelers often refer to the log home as a 'cabin', probably because of the log construction, but the place is a log house with full amenities-- running water, full shower, two bathrooms, washer and dryer, fully equipped gourmet kitchen, standard oil furnace heat (but also has a high efficiency, and clean burning wood stove for ambiance and comfort). The home was built by a local log home crafter using local timber.

Located in a quiet residential setting on the outskirts of College, Alaska. Twelve minute drive to the University, 15 minutes from the Fairbanks International Airport, and 20 minute drive to downtown Fairbanks. Enjoy the Aurora Borealis from the deck or lawn, go sled dog mushing, or drive to the Arctic Circle, Brooks Range, Arctic Coastal Plain, Alaska Range, or the internationally renowned Denali National Park or Chena Natural Hot Springs. See the Trans-Alaska pipeline or visit the amazing Fairbanks Icepark in winter. Lots to do within easy reach! Free high-speed wireless internet, nice office work space with a view of the Alaska Range, espresso maker, and fresh garden goodies and berries (in season). Snowshoeing, hiking and mountain biking trails within easy reach, and ski trails nearby! Watch a movie on the big screen, and enjoy the comfort and ambiance of the wood stove. Peaceful, private, relaxing setting. Makes a great getaway, or home away from home!

My interaction with guests varies widely, depending upon guest preferences and needs. I enjoy meeting guests, and hearing their travel stories and experiences. I take extra care to be sure my guests have what they need, and that they have an excellent Alaskan experience.

The neighborhood is friendly, quiet, safe, and offers excellent privacy. Hiking trails are right out the door.

Having a car is essential for getting around. My place is an easy 15-min drive from the airport. In winter a 4WD/AWD is a must.

Guest access
Guest have full access to the entire house, lawn, greenhouse, and garden.

Other things to note
We have two dogs. Cooper and younger brother Cash are super friendly, fun, and well behaved labrador retrievers. They love to greet and interact with guests for those so inclined. They especially love kids! Sarah and I, and Cooper and Cash live in a small house on the property completely separate and out of sight from the Airbnb log home. You may occasionally see us come and go.

I am a freshwater ecologist with the University of Alaska, in Fairbanks. When not teaching or doing ecological research I enjoy adventure travel, fishing, biking, skiing, pottery, boat building, yoga, varied and healthy cuisine, cooking, and gardening. I live an active life, free of drugs and tobacco. (I do enjoy proper amounts of good espresso, wine, beer, and occasionally whiskey!)

During your stay
Guest interaction varies widely from no interaction to a lot, entirely dependent upon guests' preferences and my availability. I do travel often too, so sometimes I am out of town, but am always reachable via Airbnb messaging, text, or phone call.
