Historical house in extremely central location. Walking distance to supermarkets, shops, restaurants, sightseeing, transport, etc. Very suitable for a single person or couple. One bedroom, but can accomodate up to 4 persons due to double fold-out sofa-bed in living room. Cable tv and wifi is included. No smoking.

The space

This is the perfect location to explore Bergen. Situated in one of the most historical areas of Bergen, this house from around 1850 sits in the midst of a cobble stoned alley, free of cars. Yet famous sights like Bryggen and the fish market, a local organic bakery, the oldest coffee shop in Bergen and lots of local restaurants are all just a few steps from the house. As is beautiful hiking trails. Super markets, 24 hour convenience stores like 7-11 etc are all less than 5 minutes from the door step.

The antique house has been completely renovated to a modern standard and runs over two floors. The ground floor consists of a small entrance area, a small living room with a sleeper sofa and a small dining area for 4 persons, a very nice kitchen with integrated appliances (including dish washer), a brand new bathroom with shower, toilet and heated floor tiles. The house also has a clothes washing machine. All the rooms on the ground floor have under-floor heating, creating a warm and comfortable atmposphere. The second floor consists of one double bedroom with exposed beams and high ceiling, and a large dresser. There is also another tiny spare room where we can make up a single mattress, or the room can be used for storage or for a travel cot etc.

Guest access

Cable tv and wifi is included. As is bed linens, towels and toiletries such as shampoo, soap, etc.
No smoking or parties.
Maximum 4 persons.

We stayed for a week in Bergen and were very sad to leave what had come to feel like our very own little red house. It was always fun to peek out at the tourists taking pictures of our picturesque home, but as the house was higher than street level we had plenty of privacy. The house was clean, warm, cosy and had everything we needed for doing our own cooking and laundry. Mike and Grethe were incredibly helpful, always very quickly responding to any questions we had and taking the time to recommend places to take my two year old son to play; they were even able to lend us a travel cot, high chair and quite a few toys! Mike also took the time to point out places of interest in the area and where to eat and buy groceries which was much appreciated. It was very lovely on arrival to find some fruit, biscuits and other complimentary items provided. We would highly recommend staying here and will definitely look to book again when we next visit Bergen.

We were made very welcome and everything about the house was as described. It is a cozy, well appointed and comfortable base in the very heart of Bergen.

Grethe and her husband Michael were fantastic! They met us at the house and they made us feel like family.... This house is practically a tourist attraction of its own, it was fun to see all the people taking pics of this perfect little house, and it's even better on the inside. Super comfortable upgraded home , nothing but the best!

Lovely place, the photos don't do it justice. Grethe was friendly, very helpful and organised. The location is excellent, the house is gorgeous, clean, comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. If you get the opportunity to stay here then take it.

Wonderful, central location from which to base our activities, which included commitments at the university as well as sight seeing all over town. Was perfect for my partner and Me, and our young daughter, who loved the space and the toys provided by Grethe and Mike. Easy access to public transit and anything you'd need or want to do in Bergen.

Our stay at Grethe and Mike's place in Bergen was excellent and I definitely recommend their little red house. I've been thinking about what sets it apart and made it our best airbnb experience to date, and I think it was their hospitality, plus of course the cute, clean and iconic house in the heart of Bergen. Communication with Gerthe prior to our arrival was easy and she was able to recommend some parking options. When we arrived, Gerthe's husband, Mike, greeted us, showed us around the house and took us on a 5 minute walk of the neighborhood. He showed us a few of the local places to try and some tips on what was open when. Back in the house, it was clear that Gerthe and Mike take pride in sharing their house with others. They supplied all the essentials plus had bought a few items of food for us - some juice, eggs, cookies and apples. It turned out we had a few things with as we had stopped at a local grocery store on the way into Bergen, but if we hadn't, having a few key supplies would have been excellent and helped us settle in. They also had some good tourist brochures, ferry schedules and maps in the house. The house itself has a lot of character, while also having modern amenities. The shower was great and we slept incredibly well in the comfortable bed. It was only my husband and I so there was plenty of space, however I think the house could also work well for a couple with up to two toddlers due to the small extra room upstairs. If you are in Bergen and the little red house is available, look no further and request to stay!

We have lived and travelled on all continents and now live in the house next door to the cutest house in Bergen. Hope you will love this little antique house and historical area as much as we do.
