This is the perfect location to explore Bergen. Situated in one of the most historical areas of Bergen, this house from around 1850 sits in the midst of a cobble stoned alley, free of cars. Yet famous sights like Bryggen and the fish market, a local organic bakery, the oldest coffee shop in Bergen and lots of local restaurants are all just a few steps from the house. As is beautiful hiking trails. Super markets, 24 hour convenience stores like 7-11 etc are all less than 5 minutes from the door step.
The house was renovated in 2009 and 2013 and runs over two floors. The ground floor consists of a small entrance area, a small living room with a sleeper sofa and small dining area for 4 persons, a very nice kitchen with integrated appliances (including dish washer), a brand new bathroom with shower, toilet and heated floor tiles. There is also a clothes washing machine. All the rooms on the ground floor have under-floor heating, creating a warm and comfortable atmposphere. The second floor consists of one double bedroom with exposed beams and high ceiling, and a large dresser. In the upstairs hallway there is a large closet and there is also another tiny office which is not furnished but can be used for storage or for a small child in a travel cot etc.
Cable tv and wifi is included. As is bed linens, towels and toiletries such as shampoo, soap, etc.
No smoking or parties.
Maximum 4 persons.
We live next door and will usually be available to help if there are any questions.
Public transport including aiport bus, tram, train station etc are all walking distance.
We prefer responsible, quiet adults as guests. No smoking or parties will be accepted.
We stayed in this lovely little house a few days ago and it was perfect for our long weekend break. Like the other reviews have said it is in a great location only a few paces from restaurants, cafes, the harbour and the funicular. The house itself is very clean and comfortable and Grethe and her husband are very friendly and gave us good recommendations for bars and restaurants.
We would defiantly recommend staying here, you will not be disappointed.
My wife and I had a great time at Grethe's house. The house was everything we expected and the location was even better than expected. We had no trouble finding it from the train station and it took less than ten minutes to walk there with luggage. We left using the airport bus which has a stop that is only a few minutes walk from the house. Picking up the keys and checking out were both very easy. We enjoyed having all the comforts of a home this close to everything in Bergen. We can't say enough about how great the location is. Grethe was very easy to contact if we would have needed anything and went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed for our stay. Like others have said, the house is almost a small tourist attraction in itself as many passersby stopped to take pictures and a photo of the house was used in an article on Bergen. We would definitely stay here again if we go back to Bergen. If we could find similar lodging in every city we visit, we would do so in a heartbeat. This house is great for couples, a family, or even two couples.
Boy ..oh boy .. what a treat! It is really the coziest house in Central Bergen. So many positives to list! First of all the location is absolutely perfect. Whether you are in need of public transport, a restaurant, shops or just breathtaking scenery .. EVERYTHING is around the corner.
The house itself is just perfect for a couple. I'm very tall and was happy to find a good sturdy IKEA bed of decent size in the house. It is also very clean and equipped with all the needed appliances (should you want to cook or wash). Cable TV and WIFI are also taken care off, so - if you must - you will never feel completely disconnected from the outside world (although the surrounding nature should make you feel disconnected from your personal media ;)).
Grethe was very helpful and friendly in answering my many questions. We also met her husband who showed us around the house upon arrival. Even though the house is located in the centrum, you will have total privacy.
So in short ... go! and experience it for yourself... can definitely recommended it! You would be silly to stay in a hotel that is more expensive and less conveniently located.
Great location with everything you need. Grethe even kindly lent me some toys for my daughter to play with, super service!
I stayed in Grethes house for a week while I was woking in Bergen. The hotels were on strike, so i had to try something new and that was absolutly a change for the better! Grethe was very helpful and the location and everything about the house is perfect! It could not be more central, but still nice and quiet. Cafes, shops, museums and public transport around the corner as well as Fløyen which is perfect for running or going for a stroll. Hope to visit this place again!
We had an incredible stay in Grethe's little red house in Bergen!! Grethe was very helpful and communicative with us before and after we arrived. We were especially grateful to her for replying quickly to our airbnb request since we contacted her just one day before we arrived. She gave very clear instructions on how to get from the airport to the house (via the very convenient Flybussen) and she even had us call her when we arrived so that she could meet us on the street and personally guide us to the house. It took about 30 minutes total to get from the airport to the house. Very seamless and easy. As soon as we walked into the house, we were welcomed by delicious chocolate truffles Grethe had bought for us! Throughout our stay, she was readily available to answer our questions about how to use the washer, heater, etc and even gave us a long list of recommendations for restaurants and local hangouts in Bergen.
The little red house has a very charming exterior and we loved to see tourists snapping pictures of it every time we came home :) The interior is very clean and modern. The heating throughout the house is very effective. The bathroom is small but comfortable and efficient (heated floor and foldable shower doors). The bedroom is upstairs and the bed is very comfy. The kitchen had a fridge, freezer, oven and all the tools you would need to cook with. We used the washing machine and dried our clothes on the drying rack she provided.
The location was WONDERFUL. We couldn't have asked for a better spot. It's in the heart of Bergen, but it's also tucked away on a side street so that it's still private and quiet. We walked everywhere and were just steps away from restaurants, bars, shops, the fish market, the funicular to Mt Floyen, etc.
We loved staying in this airbnb and were sad to leave it! Grethe was an excellent host and we're so glad she was able to accommodate us on such short notice!
This is a fantastic, charming house! The location is perfect, close to cafes and restaurants, minutes from everything you would like to see in Bergen. The house is tucked away so it is quiet even though it is in the middle of town. We stayed for 5 weeks and were very happy. (We are a family of 4- two small children…) I recommend this house very highly.
We have lived and travelled on all continents and now live in the house next door to the cutest house in Bergen. Hope you will love this little antique house and historical area as much as we do.
