We've been interviewed by airbnb and Wired Magazine for being highly rated hosts!
This is a large private room with a queen size bed in our home. (We live here and will be here.) It has two large sunny windows and is in the upstairs flat. A huge window faces west and our very green backyard, yet the trees give you privacy. The single bathroom is shared.
There is a garden to sit in which is surrounded by trees, flowers and colorful plants, and is visited by hummingbirds. The house is filled with colorful international artwork and photos and we have keyboards and a mandolin you can play if you're musically inclined. You're welcome to hang out in the living room and use the large modern kitchen if you want to cook something light. We have cable tv, wifi, friendly neighbors in the downstairs flat and a sweet old dog. This has been home to 37 foreign exchange students, dozens of international travelers and many techies from famous companies.
Great area with wonderful weather, interesting shops, farmer's market, mostly family owned vs. chain shops, local events and places to hang out. Lots of scenic walks if you want to explore the famous painted Victorians, and a beautiful park with a gorgeous view of the city nearby. There are many fantastic cafes, great coffee spots and restaurants of numerous ethnicities, including at least 2 restaurants on the SF Top 100 List, within a short walk.
We're centrally located and just a few steps to public transportation. The 24th & Mission BART station is a 7-8 minute walk, and downtown is 20 minutes away by the train that stops across the street. The Castro is a 10 minute walk. UCSF campuses are about 20 minutes away. The "tech" buses that go to several well-known Silicon Valley companies stops at our corner. The very coolest area of the Mission to hang out in is a 10-15 minute walk. This is a safe neighborhood so you can go for walks late at night. Whole Foods, a high end organic grocery with take-out food, is less than a 5 minute walk. All stores in this area are open on Sunday and all have relatively late hours.
The entire neighborhood is culturally diverse, gay friendly, full of families, happy dogs, creative type professionals and a welcoming atmosphere. We can refer you to trusted chiropractors, massage therapists, acupuncturists, etc, if you need one, and as our guest, you can visit Fit Lite right around the corner, part of the 24 Hr Fitness Club chain.
Your host is a world traveler and loves to share stories. You will feel immediately welcome.
Note: We have two additional rooms available: "Cool Victorian in Cool Neighborhood" and "Victorian in Cool Neighborhood" which both have a single bed for one person.
Please be aware that there may be other guests while you are here. Sorry, no pets can stay or visit. We have an iron and a blow dryer and plenty of towels, so no need to bring yours!
California is experiencing a SERIOUS WATER SHORTAGE, and we've been asked to reduce our water consumption by 20%. Our rates have also increased and there is the possibility of water rationing which means we can be charged 10x our usual rate. We ask that you help us conserve by being mindful of your water use. We ask you to please limit your showers to 5 minutes, and when washing dishes and brushing teeth, please turn off the water. We are highly environmentally conscious, so please turn off lights when not in use. Thanks for understanding.
Great location and lovely place. Marla was a fantastic host; she was very responsive and had great recommendations on the surrounding area.
I stayed here for a few days to recover from jet lag before meetings. I felt really at home and welcomed. Marla was lovely. You instantly feel comfortable.
You can't get a better location. The streets are really pretty, and you can walk to all the main cafes and restaurants around Valencia and Dolores. It's right by a main stop for public transport so I could easily get downtown too. I was travelling by myself and felt completely safe.
The room was great. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and having towels and a hairdryer provided are great so you can travel light.
I also took her up on the offer of a driver to meet me at SFO which made things super easy after a long flight from London.
Would definitely stay again, thank you Marla!
Marla made me feel welcome from the minute I requested to stay. Emailed me straight away with info about the room/house and advice on things to do. The room was as described - clean and presented well. I had a fantastic stay - LOVE this neighbourhood! Very convenient to get everywhere with the train across the road and BART only a few blocks away. Marla knows her city well and has lots of tips! As others have said, the room is next to the kitchen, and across from the bathroom - so bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper. I used Marla's contact to drive me to the airport - wished I had used him when I first got into town :)
Perfect. No problems at all. Exactly as advertised and expected.
I am so happy I found Marla's charming home tucked away in Noe Valley for my recent trip to San Francisco. The room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, and Marla went out of her way to make me feel at home. As a female traveling solo it is always comforting to feel like someone is watching out for you and cares about your comings and goings. The location of her home is very convenient: 20 minutes to the Embarcadero via the J line for under $3. But the catch is: you probably won't even want to go there because Noe Valley itself is brimming with amazing shops, restaurants and people.
For practical purposes bring earplugs. This room shares a wall with the kitchen and is directly in front of the bathroom. The floors are creaky and the walls are thin as this is a historic, 107 year-old home. If you are a light sleeper like me, it can be difficult to rest in between the other house guests using the kitchen, bathroom and walking back and forth in front of your room, so bring earplugs and you'll be fine.
I highly recommend this spot.
perfect experience！Marla is so kind，helped us a lot！房东人超好！超级热心，啥都帮你计划策划，好用心啊！！

Small family-focused home with a friendly teenage son (away at college most the year) and a medium-size, friendly mellow dog. We're into sports, movies, museums, music and cooking. We've done extensive world traveling and hosted 37 foreign exchange students. Everyone loved staying with us and we still have many worldwide friendships.
We're easy going, super friendly and welcoming, and will do whatever we can to make your stay memorable. We look forward to meeting new people, and enjoy seeing pictures of their family, where they live, and their favorite activities.
We believe in taking care of the environment and use only all green, all natural products in our home. We recycle, reuse, compost, grow herbs and attempt to leave a low carbon footprint.
Wherever you come from, you bring a piece of your culture and we leave with you a piece of ours. This is what enriches our lives and why we do airbnb.
